For some reason, I don't see this as a bad thing provided parents have open access to the video footage. This might actually encourage parents to monitor the education of their kids.

Of course it could prime kids to be used to a surveillance state, but that's a separate problem entirely.

Yeah, as a parent I would love for their to be video cameras in the school. Talk about there not being any questions in a fight or bullying. Also, most places in public are monitored by video cameras (Wal*Mart, etc) but they aren't managed by the government.

That'd be novel - parents actually giving a s**t about their children. 99% of the reason our school system is failing is because teachers are treated like babysitters - the job of parenting is being thrust upon them by lazy parents who don't want to take responsibility for their own children. Of course, I could mention the nanny state climate that has led to this perception of education, but the point is, it'd be nice if parents were more involved in their children's lives.

I'm impressed -- this is probably the most difficult response for the board to take. It might have been the best choice but could not have been an easy one!

Horribly misleading title. When I read it I thought they were firing ALL of the teachers across the city. While the English is technically correct it's easy to misread.
