Well that's just awkward.
FenderStratocasterMay 4, 2011
Yes... Obama is quite awkward as POTUS.
darthmeatloafMay 4, 2011
Well, when two of the most memorable things Bush did were to choke on a pretzel and to try to open a locked door and need help, you could say the same about him...
FenderStratocasterMay 4, 2011
You forgot to mention Bush fell off the Segway. But, you took my statement out of context. I was pointing out the awkwardness of Obama's presidency, not whether he figuratively s**t his pants or almost choked to death in snack food. That would be petty. I leave pettiness up to liberals. They excel in it.
darthmeatloafMay 4, 2011
I took it out of context probably because I've seen awkwardness in every presidency in my life.
One has to wonder if it's increasing because our presidents are getting dumber or if it's because the public is just getting more access to everything they do...
FenderStratocasterMay 4, 2011
"...or if it's because the public is just getting more access to everything they do..."
The public has gotten more ignorant over the years. When a presidential candidate wins an election on fancy slogans, sound bites, and emotion filled television ads, that means the public is voting out of emotion, rather than actually educating themselves on the actual issues.
darthmeatloafMay 4, 2011
Agreed, but the media has become famous for circling like vultures and waiting for a mistake to be made so they can report that important-ass s**t to the public.
Did we need to know that Bush can't ride a Segway? No, and while I may not have liked the man much (and I laughed about it, to be honest), I think it was a gross invasion of his family's privacy for someone to hang out at their property line with a telescope of a lens to catch him doing it.
darthmeatloafMay 4, 2011
Also, what's the most memorable thing about Clinton's presidency?
Getting blown in the Oval Office.
Bush Senior?
Throwing up on the Japanese Prime Minister
Reagan?
Getting Shot
Carter?
Holy f**k, the only thing he did right was NOT canceling the M1 Abrams development project...
Ford?
"I watch a lot of baseball on the radio"
Nixon?
Too easy...
The list of dumb, memorable things presidents have said, done or had done to them is long.
FenderStratocasterMay 4, 2011
Some valid points. What came to mind on Reagan was: "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!" Not the shooting.
darthmeatloafMay 4, 2011
I mean no disrespect to him by what I pointed out. The statement to Gorby is something seared into the brains of everyone in my generation.
I picked what I picked for my list to support the "stupid s**t" angle, but did not mean to imply that none of them did anything worthwhile.
FenderStratocasterMay 4, 2011
Darthmeathloaf said: "I mean no disrespect to him..."
No disrespect taken. You made valid points. Some of your mentioned presidents were great presidents, some just OK, others were the s**ts. All may have had high points, all had their lows. Comes with the territory. ;-)
darthmeatloafMay 4, 2011
EXACTLY.
I may not have liked Bush, but I can still admit that he did one or two things that were positive.
I don't particularly like Obama because of some of his policy choices, but that doesn't mean he's done nothing worthwhile, especially after OBL getting taken out.
Every president has done s**t people don't like. I'm sick of people being presidential fanboys/fangirls and ignoring the dumb s**t done by their 'fave' as well as the good things done by the presidents they choose not to like.
There's a reason for the limitation on how much time someone can spend in the Oval Office, so bitching for four (or eight) years straight when you don't like the president is a waste of everyone's time.

She wasn't even blonde.
anachronusMay 4, 2011
Blonde is a state of mind.
DogensMay 4, 2011
WTF?? She made the mistake more than once! what the hell was the director doing?
wjappeMay 4, 2011
My mother-in-law told my ex that Obama was shot, my ex called me at 6 AM before I got up for work to tell me, a bit later I looked up on CNN that is was Osama Bin Laden that was shot. Talk about messing up the story.
bettverbotenMay 4, 2011
No this can't be true...Only Fox News did this sort of thing and Fox News did it intentionally /s
graehMay 4, 2011
Agreed - the main thing to keep in mind is that Fox are the victims here, and that people on majority insist that these kinds of errors only occur on Fox news.
And there's no way in which the number or degree of errors which are picked up and highlighted by media watchdogs can reasonably infer a trend in which they benefit one particular partisan group and disadvantage a particular other. And that trend, while only reasonably able to be seen to be infered due to the highlighting of the errors and their number, may very well be unintentional.
So your point is timely and necessary, won't somebody think of the criticisms of the journalistic and operational integrity hurting Fox news? With all the positive, measured and thought provoking work they do, they're an undeserving victim :(Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
juliekidMay 4, 2011
Has anybody made this mistake him/herself yet, though? For some reason, I've made it twice--the names just seem to get twisted up together!
Closed AccountMay 4, 2011
That's what I'm saying ... I'm sure it was made all over the place.
jefftsMay 4, 2011
But..but...this isn't Fox...er, I mean, Faux...News! How could this happen?! /s

mbraynardMay 4, 2011
It's funny that she pronounces the country 'Pahki-stahn' in an Obamaesque way yet botches his name.
piddlydMay 4, 2011
Completely f**king shocking that in a story where a guy named OBAMA was involved in the killing of a guy named OSAMA, people keep f**king up the order of who killed who.

It was an easy mistake to make. Osama dead .... Obama to speak. It was like a huge, psychic joke. I made the mistake myself, typing Obama when I meant Osama.
usarugulaMay 4, 2011
I'm more understanding of someone speaking it wrongly. Typing and publishing it wrongly, in print or on air, is a different matter. Except of course for Liz Trotta, who mistakenly said "knocking off Obama" when meaning "Osama", but followed her gaffe up with "Well, both if we could." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BjYpkvcmog0

She apologized. And she NEEDED to apologize. I wouldn't be at all disappointed if she lost her job.
But anyway ... I typed Obama when I meant Osama. Now ... I totally was thinking, "Al Qaeda number one terrorist..."
It's just understandable that some would make the mistake in the moment. We were hearing that Osama was dead and Obama was speaking. I'm sure many folks were racing to cover the news in the heat of the moment.
usarugulaMay 4, 2011
I'm referring more to news banners like this one: http://static.guim.co.uk/sys-images/Guardian/Pix/pixies/2011/5/3/1304382359622/Obama-bin-Laden-007.jpg
Proof reading is part of the job, not to mention that it's only five words. A new organization is not going to go bankrupt because someone in the booth took and extra 30 seconds to proof their banners.
Closed AccountMay 4, 2011
Again ... it was the heat of the moment. Seriously, it happened to a bunch of people.
fadetooneMay 4, 2011
This is what happens when we vote a guy into office that has a name so similar to our country's mortal enemy that it differs by only one letter... Can't say I'm surprised.
concusionMay 5, 2011
this woman needs to be fired.
scooternrocketMay 5, 2011
Maybe they are the same person, i mean how do we know that Obama the prez didnt pre-record his speech or stage his shooting in Pakistan ? I mean i find it highly suspicious they both have daughters, two legs, are men, over 40, love Indonesia. I mean i could go on forever.
thelegionwolfMay 4, 2011
Man Obama so depressed he's been trying to kill himself using death by cia...
macromorganMay 4, 2011
Makes me wonder if it's a newbie writing the paper, and Osama isn't in their spell checker yet (but Obama is).
