it doesn't matter if he's a photoshop expert or not, this is awesome ... that guy must've had A LOT of time on his hands!
assassyn360Feb 23, 2012
Nobody cool ever comes to my photoshopped parties.
lostngoneFeb 24, 2012
That is because you spend to much time fixing hover hands....
johnomazzFeb 23, 2012
They aren't the best, but some are pretty damn decent. Also, kind of stalkerish.
sacrabosFeb 23, 2012
Actually, the Bill Murray one was is real, but no one will believe it.

Good job on the Photoshop work. I especially appreciate the "grain" in the badly shot photo with Alec Baldwin. Sometimes getting those bad pixels and image artifacts right is harder than the clean photos.
He probably had to hunt around to get the right head angle and body type to fit his guests.
>> It inspires me to do some PS work on some of our parties. I've already made a GlamRock faux Album cover for some of the dudes. Should be fun.
redhautemamaFeb 23, 2012
Good work!

Hilarious!
theonewhoknowsFeb 23, 2012
Please... I bet most of these are photoshopped.
rockyoumonkeysFeb 24, 2012
I can tell from some of the pixels and from seeing quite a few shops in my time.

I bet you didn't read the title of the digg...
mazebotFeb 23, 2012
must say some good attempts, only one or two which looked good though to me
verastilesFeb 24, 2012
Wow, great skills, he made them look real
blackfireburnFeb 23, 2012
not bad. i like the obama one :D
mtownFeb 23, 2012
Some where well done, others not so much.
I lol'd when I saw Obama though.
nsinu8Feb 24, 2012
People care way too much about 'celebrities'. If he was just trying to be stupid, he succeeded. How about we all do something with our lives rather than idolize narcissistic people that are likely a lot dumber and less socially adjusted than you? With the exception of a few that is.

The first 20-30 or so are amazing, then they get a bit more obvious after that. Still, a great achievement.

Maybe I'm be overly critical here, but most of these were not well done at all. In fact I'd go as far as saying that they are pretty much amateur when all is said and done with.

drunkrobotFeb 23, 2012
Actually as a former photo retoucher for Entertainment Weekly magazine, amongst others, I think he did a great job based on what he had to work with. Compositing this cleanly and creating believable shadows is not nearly as easy as most people think. I cracked up laughing which is all that mattered.
essteeFeb 23, 2012
I guess I just don't see any reason to conclude that these examples are in any way worthy of being called awesome. And though I can't say I'm convinced of any good reasons to conclude he did well with what he had to work with given that I honestly don't know what tools he used. Having said that, I'm not quite sure there is much room for such reasoning under the title of Awesomely :p
1. How hard it is to match grain and resolution between sources?
2. How difficult is it to recreate accurate shadows within a scene?
3. How about matching ambient and color casts?
4. And finally, how hard is it(really) to properly mask samples these days?
In this retouchers defense, there is always the possibility that he/or she may have used some primitive tools to get the job done. However, if were talking most any version of Photoshop then I'm afraid some of these results are quite poor. Not all mind you, since a few of them have matched ambient, grain and resolution(likely by coincidence) though most of them look pretty much, cut and paste.
Whatever the case, I agree with you on the funny side of this not to mention that its quite likely that the person who made them intended to make them look this way. Though I honestly don't think there worthy of the title myself :pComment is buried, click here to see the rest.
drunkrobotFeb 23, 2012
To answer your questions: 1 - It can be difficult to match focus, sharpness and grain when there's a large difference between the resolutions of the source images. 2 - It depends. It's easy to create a basic offset drop shadow. But it requires some skill to create a realistic shadow that give the illusion of distance and perspective. 3 - It can be extremely tricky when one image has a heavy lighting cast because mid-tone and shadow detail is usually lost in the cast and it only gets worse when the color is shifted. Color management can also cause problems. 4 - Masking is the most difficult skill to master. I haven't seen the new PS but previous auto masking features and plug in's weren't any faster or more accurate than doing it manually. So it really depends on the size and resolution of the image, how clean the subject's edges are and how good the user is with masking tools and techniques. I can silo a lower res. product off a studio background in minutes. But it can take hours to create a pro quality mask for a large high res. image. Which is one reason why I don't do it anymore lol.
essteeFeb 23, 2012
1. See: texture/grain matching techniques w/Photoshop.
2. Based on the actual photo's I'd say no. very simple shadows, w/dodge & burn foreground work.
3. See: Photoshop: Protect tone feature.
4. I agree. then again... it wasn't rocket science back in the day(10+ years ago) and so with today's tools, what once took hours becomes minutes and so I'm finding it hard to extend excuses at this stage(personally). Now someone else may not feel the same way about that, and that's okay. Which is why I questions my own critical values.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

I love the Internet, where a silly goofy project to make friends laugh brings out the Aspy trolls who can't just take a joke, and miss the obvious, "Um, no one will believe all these celebs are at these parties, so who cares if the Photoshops aren't perfect?"
ophelloFeb 23, 2012
If its so easy, why dont you do it?
essteeFeb 24, 2012
RE: who can't just take a joke, and miss the obvious...
I'd challenge the title not the editor.
RE. If its so easy, why dont you do it?
Then what?
I doubt that would change anything tbh.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Our secretaries do this crap all day at work in they are bored and do just as good of a job. Don't listen to these guys, they are not awesome. They are getting pretty pissed at you for saying so though! "why don't you do it if it is so easy?" LOLOL. or ""Um, no one will believe all these celebs are at these parties" Like anyone thought they would. The title claimed awesome PS work. It isn't. But don't comment on that or you are a troll. LOLOL.

I take it you have years of professional experience in photography / imaging or you're an academic expert? So can you provide links to your personal or professional work that demonstrates your level of proficiency? Or how you used the techniques and automated features you mentioned to achieve superior results?
I'm happy to share mine: http://retoucher07030.deviantart.com/gallery/4897508 I also have a second gallery containing personal projects I did to explore and experiment with different PS techniques and styles: http://retoucher07030.deviantart.com/gallery/1953055

RE: I take it you have years of professional experience in photography / imaging or you're an academic expert?
I dable :p
RE: So can you provide links to your personal or professional work that demonstrates your level of proficiency?
I have no interest in such things myself.
RE: Or how you used the techniques and automated features you mentioned to achieve superior results?
I have no issues helping out. And I'm confident that any of the techniques mentioned could be covered with existing tutorials from sources such as Youtube etc.
RE: I'm happy to share mine...
Looking good.
Are you looking for criticism?
taketheleapFeb 23, 2012
I'm a Photoshop Nazi as well, but I'm pretty sure the end goal wasn't complete believability. It made me laugh, so this guy wins.
tomt127Feb 23, 2012
Yes, I'm sure he just did it for kicks not notoriety. What a great idea.
mawdsFeb 23, 2012
Take 10 of your own photo's and do 10 awesomely better jobs.
PresidentCamachoFeb 24, 2012
Yea they are not well done at all for the reasons you stated and are amateur at best. I know it is not cool to be all negative and critical and all but the title does say 'awesomely' in it and its just not there.

The least believable thing about this is that he got John Stewart, Barack Obama, George W. Bush, and John McCain at the same party, and everyone still enjoyed themselves.
