It looks like the mop was retractible.
My bulldog swallowed a large grapefruit whole. I thought that was insane until I saw him swallow a medium sized pumpkin whole. I kid you not.
Of course he's eaten a roll of quarters (took $250 to get his stomach pumped to get it removed) a nine volt battery (another $250), two double a batteries (another $250), and 4 universal remove controls. (we let him poop those out on his own.)

Generally, though, gloves are used to prevent infection during surgery. It seems that they didn't make any incisions or anything, though, so I guess its kind of moot.
I think its just standard procedure, though...
