alternet.org— As if there weren't enough examples of the drug war's rampant hypocrisy and double standards, the director of Tennessee's Alcoholic Beverage Commission was caught with pot, but never charged.

sucks that her husband died, but that wouldn't have stopped the cops from arresting me in the same scenario. At the very least they would have taken my pot. This is bulls**t, if they don't arrest her of all people how can they possibly arrest anyone else for possession?
Oh man, and it was the same day her husband died. I think that would've been a glorious story if she had been sent to prison until she died. f**king hypocritical piece of s**t. Ruining lives for doing what she does, but she gets away with it. Well, f**k that. Something should be done.
I am going to guess if she was living in a trailer park and her husband had just died, she would be arrested. But if you work for the man, you get a free pass, even if it means that you get to put other innocents in jail for doing the same thing you are doing. Our system is corrupt.
On the bright side, perhaps she will now become a marijuana legalization advocate, and claim that the anti-depressant qualities of pot helped her cope with the grief of losing her husband. Can't help but feel that the cops had compassion for her loss and that's why they didn't bust her for possession or confiscate her stash. I hope this controversy sparks a new debate about Tennessee's ridiculous marijuana laws, and if they choose to prosecute the widow Elks, that the public will rally behind her and support her use of the herb.
hmmm... they entered, without any kind of warrant, after arriving to tell her that her husband had died. she's a hypocrite, sure, but i am not offended that she wasn't charged.
This woman makes her living out of ruining other people's lives. I call her what she is a hypocrite, and somehow you find that hypocritical? Not sure if you are trolling or for real. Either way f**k you.
Marijuana has been shown to be one of the most potent anti-inflammatories, and has other positive health benefits. Nobody has the right to tell anyone what they cannot put into their bodies, especially if it carries a positive health benefit
Besides, if everything was legalized, people could buy their substance of choice for the price of regular spices, and on have on average less health issues than a trans fat addict.
Of course, it's only "falling victim" when one of your fellow sactimonious holy-than-thou assh**e moral crusaders gets busted, right? Anyone else gets caught in the same situation - god forbid a poor young inner city black man - we should just lock 'em up and throw away the f**king key, right?
odkin. . .I have no idea if you've ever had alcohol, tobacco or caffeine, so I can't call you a blatant hypocrite. . . only you know the answer to that.

I wonder why the director of Tennessee's Alcoholic Beverage Commission would have any interest in keeping marijuana illegal?
God this strokes my Schadenfreude bone so hard.

Dugg for "Shadenfreude bone"
Donuts4UFeb 8, 2012
This problem of drugs being both normalized and illegal has caused hypocrisy on every level.

Never living in TN -- A year for a gram?! GTFO!

She's a hero. She wants her state to be rid of pot. She makes sure of it by smoking it all.

Cops entering a private residence and conducting a search without a warrant? I'm SHOCKED!
Mark_LincolnFeb 9, 2012
Nothing like being a conservative politician to make you immune to prosecution.
publikjohn9Feb 8, 2012
Hypocrite bitch, I hope she catches cancer of the ****.
breadfredFeb 8, 2012
Now that is just a bit over the top - and does not solve anything. Just wish her to begone, or to shut up.
whacklyFeb 9, 2012
isn't it hypocritical to want her arrested for something you want legalized? the irony on display here is humorous.
publikjohn9Feb 9, 2012
I never said I wanted her arrested. Perhaps you should try reading with both eyes.
whacklyFeb 9, 2012
i never said you did. but you sentiment was the same, just taken to a hyperbolic extreme. if anything, it's even more hypocritical.

so are all pot smokers hypocrites who have to pretend they don't publicly? either way your level of anger is disproportionate to the actual issue?
odkinFeb 8, 2012
Of course, the left phrases it as "As if there weren't enough examples of the drug war's rampant hypocrisy and double standards..."
Whereas rational people would say "As if there weren't enough examples of mans' weakness against the addictive lure of mind-numbing narcotics..."
The fact that a lot of people fall victim to something does not mean it should be welcomed. Quite the opposite.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

"fall victim"?
You're pretty funny.
OK, mostly pathetic, and a *tiny* bit funny.
