Self esteem issues? I've had boyfriends that looked geeky (I kinda like that) and I thought they were great looking. It's all in the beholder's perspective.

This. I'm not sure if they still do, but hot or not used to have a dating function. 90% of the girls who were rated 9+ were the most fake, skanky, plastic, whorish chavs I'd ever seen. Most of the girls I thought were attractive (and there were some absolute stunners) were around 7-8s.

Yeah it's definitely true, with guys at least. I've known a lot of good-looking guys who were totally oblivious to their attractiveness. They seem to think all girls want are tan musclemen or something.

Well given that beauty is mostly subjective I have to agree. Just like how the number of people universally viewed are beautiful is a small number people universally viewed as fugly is also a small number.

I think i've seen "Andy, Cardiff" before too on the interwebs somewhere - when you search the site the people aren't nearly as bad as the first page. I think most of them are fake to make people sign up and catch your attention.

I remember an article not too long ago that said the people with the least genetic diversity (read: inbred) were in the UK.
The amazing part of it was that tiny islands in the South Pacific scored higher - most countries were in the 93-98% range for maximum genetic diversity. But I remember that the UK was in the high 70's!
An island indeed.

A recent study showed that 46% of American adults are single. They had their own theories as to why, I have mine.
Even ugly people think they're more attractive than they are and they won't date other ugly people. It's some odd ego thing or pride but it's kind of funny. You can find ads on Craigslist where the woman is 5'4", 230 lbs, 5 teeth, high school dropout looking for a physically fit man (at least 6'), who isn't balding and who has a stable career.
And it doesn't work like that. How she doesn't know it doesn't work like that is puzzling.
Same goes for guys...both ways. Fat, bald, living in parents' basement, unemployed currently, looking for tall, thin, educated, cultured woman with big breasts and a small waist who likes spanish music and likes to watch sci-fi marathons.
These people will always be single because they just don't get it.
Maybe it's nature's way of keeping the ugly, unrealistic people from reproducing.

I had a friend years ago who was about 5'10" and 300 lbs. He once talked of a girl he wouldn't go out with because she was too fat. I kind of chuckled for a second, then looked to see the humor in his face, but found none. I couldn't believe he was serious.

I think you're right. Though a lot of people just fail to take care of themselves in general (weight, hygiene, general grooming). The ego thing is spot on. Many people wont date other people solely based on the fact of what will other people will think of them (Oh Em Gee! Look at how fat/poor/short her boyfriend is! Scandal!). Or parents in general telling them "oh dear you you deserve better (whatever their subjective definition of better is)". Think about how many girls/guys you reject or get rejected because of this. You might have to think really hard, as sometimes we don't even notice or just try to justify their rejections (hes/shes crazy/has issues).

I've been with 50+ women so far in search of the real one. I'm not proud of it in the least, but I can tell you one thing from my life: pretty women are MUCH nicer than ugly ones. They're more friendly towards grocery store employees, less bitter about life, more fun to be out with, and they're MUCH better between the sheets. And as if that wasn't enough, they're also much more ok with dating people less than perfect (i.e. me) because they don't live in Disney Land and think they can just lay there hating everybody and judging you by the sexual "services" you provide for them.
