It's a piece of doctrine called the hypostatic union. It's a really hard concept to grasp, mostly because we can't completely understand how it works from what we know. It is incredibly arrogant to say that God can be completely defined. Just because you can't understand something does not mean that it is incorrect. We do our best to understand the concept of God, just as quantum physicists try their best to explain electron motion. We don't have the means to completely understand.
It is ignorant to believe that mankind can come to a completely understandable explanation of every question we come across. We are limited by our own minds. For instance, some people do not have the capacity to understand complex math, no matter how well they are taught or for how long. Is it so difficult to say that there are concepts beyond the reach of all humans?
To vastly oversimplify a concept to almost nothing for the purpose of communication is just stupid. There is a difference between simplifying a concept and simplifying an explanation. "God is 100% man and 100% God" is a clear statement, although nearly impossible to grasp. To deny the statement is to reject the concept for shear lack of understanding.

the basic concept is something like this: Jesus has always existed. When God came to be so did "The Son" and "The Holy Ghost." In a sense these are three parts of a single entity that is "God." When God impregnated Mary with "The Son" "The Son" was given the name Jesus. He lived a life filled with all the pain and suffering (but also much of the joy and happiness) of a mortal life. And he did so without ever using his deific powers for self gain... despite often being tempted to. Then he died (a mortal death) on the cross) only to rise from the grave three days later... and then ascend directly into heaven.
The "god" portion of Jesus never dies... only the mortal body that he walked around in for 30 some odd years.
as a note... I'm agnostic... so don't go all "you stupid religious moron" on me. I'm simply pointing out the explanation for why Jesus was a god and yet died.

The Romans were a bunch of guys trying to do a decent job, Pilate wasn't entirely spineless, but he wasn't going to get things all out of whack over one guy. He proclaimed him innocent, and provided an excuse to let him go. Which I'm pretty sure upset the pharisees. The rest of the Romans were just doing their jobs. Even the guards provided Jesus vinegar (its what the guards were issued in their canteens). Saying Romans killed Jesus is BS. Saying that a Roman didn't put his job on the line to save a man is about as far as I'd go.

Extremists rarely believe in the true values of the group they claim to represent. Don't let hate-spewing fear-mongers shape your opinion of a group as a whole. There are some good Christians out there, but they aren't the loudmouthed jackasses that get up in your face or TV, so they tend to go unnoticed. these clowns originated 20miles west of me. they aren't worth following but when they pop up where you are they just have "f**k with me" written across the bottom of the signs. we water ballooned them once and they caught some of us and had them arrested for assault.

I think that ignoring them and just hearing stories of them crashing soldiers funerals and marching in the streets against gays and Jews on the news just to get us riled up is what they want. This video is exactly what the WBC DOES NOT want. Its not to even read their signs or hear their hate rhetoric, but to make a complete mockery of what they are doing. I love it, and I know for damn sure that if the WBC comes near my area I will get some buddies together with a mic and camera and do the same thing.

That attention is valid when it is in the form of ridicule. Anger and hatred directed towards them suck, and give them what they want. Ignoring them don't really do anything to help matters, as really, they don't check up on the world outside of their little bubble enough to really know if anybody is paying attention, they'd still keep doing what they're doing and every now and then someone that wasn't previously aware of them would notice them, and get into a confrontation with them that they can sue over (as they desire).
I'd say the answer is in ridicule, the tradition of surrounding them with counter protest signs that espouse not bad things about them, but random ridiculous statements is a good example. One is probably significantly less likely to want to beat the s**t out of someone holding a "God Hates Fags" sign when there is also a "Unicorns hate Brunettes" sign, a sign that says Jesus was really a fruit-filled dessert, and a guy in a chicken suit nearby, and people openly laughing at how pathetic they are seems significantly more likely to get through to them than either people ignoring them or people hating them.

There's really nothing funny about WBC. People try to get them to say stupid things on video, and they do, but there's nothing amusing or entertaining about the horrible evil and hatred they espouse. It would be far better if we just ignored them completely. I really don't want to see any more videos of them waving their signs and singing their songs. They are certifiably insane and if we can't find a way to get them help, we should just turn and walk away.

Seriously. Don't. Don't even talk to them. The way they get their funding is by provoking people, getting them to do something that they can take them to court over, and win. A number of years ago, one of their members stood outside a Lutheran church with a sign with three words on it. One was a rude slur you can't say on TV. A member of the church told her son to take care of the problem. So he walked over and took the sign away. The group sued, won a few hundred dollars, then bragged about it on its web site and even went so far as to say that because they won, the court agreed what they said about that Lutheran church was right.

I didn't see the documentary but I often wonder if the Phelps family are nothing but litigation trolls. I understand their m.o. is to bait opposition at their protests to assaulting one of them and then suing the s**t out of them.

Yes, virtually all of the members (if not absolutely all) are either Phelpses by blood or marriage. Phelps himself was a very accomplished civil rights lawyer, before he changed careers. They are masters at manipulating the legal system; it's where most of their money comes from.

I love how people are making a joke out of these assh**es everywhere they go. They have no real conviction. They try to be as offensive as possible in the hopes that someone will attack them or try to violate their right to free speech. Then they sue. Look at their interviews, they're not acting like raving lunatics while being asked questions, getting riled up and angry at the mere mention of words like "gay" and "jew".
