I knew a girl who looked like an orangutan in high school.
tyg10Aug 8, 2010
She probably looks worse, now.
gefahrAug 9, 2010
hmm. I propose we call the jersey shores folk "orangetans" pronounced like o-range-u-tans.
digg me up to spread the news.
7king7kingAug 9, 2010
you mean them? http://i.imgur.com/faDYk.jpg

WORSE? Orangutans are f**king hot! What kinda freak are you?
dsmxAug 8, 2010
Hybrids aren't efficient, diesels are way more efficient. Diesels consume less resources in construction and get nearly the same mpg during it's life.

The same mpg during "it is" life?
craftyguyAug 9, 2010
STFU about 'energy efficiency' already. Go find a new buzz word.
dsmxAug 9, 2010
energy efficiency is two words....
and it's cheaper in time, resources and money to build a diesel powered vehicle than building any form of hybrid.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

At the National Zoo in D.C., they have what's basically a giant set of monkey bars (pun neither intended nor delivered; they're apes you idiots,) that crosses over the walkways (at about 40-50 feet up) through the zoo. The orangutans can swing across it to get to other enclosures. There used to be an orangutan that would carry a light blue blanket, and would switch it between its arms while climbing across.
Being a great ape kicks ass.
jasdarAug 9, 2010
That's why they're great!
orangerevelAug 9, 2010
I enjoy being a great ape. I can't imagine what life as a canid or lagomorph would be like.
murrabbitAug 9, 2010
Good, now all I need is an engine that runs on 'em!
rockykabirAug 9, 2010
.....and this helps me how?
orangerevelAug 9, 2010
It enriched your mind.
powderedtoastyAug 9, 2010
You can't really compare humans to other primates when it comes to energy efficiency because awesome giant our brains use 25% of our energy.
1hrsleepAug 9, 2010
>awesome giant our brains use 25% of our energy.
I see what you did there. =)
powderedtoastyAug 9, 2010
Apparently when drunk the human brain only uses about 8% of the body's energy.
enantiodromiaAug 9, 2010
me fail english? that's unpossible...

researchers also found that orangutans were most agreeable to wearing yoga pants.
metis2Aug 9, 2010
heard this on NPR last week, it was about how most primates are vegetarians and it requires more energy to digest plant matter so its better to be efficient, but human evoultion started with primates that ate meat, more calories and protien that was much easier to digest gave us the extra energy to invest in building a bigger brain which helped us utilize fire for cooking, making more nutrients and protiens avalilable for an even bigger brain.
Until the day the brain invented McDonalds, and nutrition has gone down hill from there.

Seems like any article comparing humans to animals s**ts on humans all over. Let's see that f**ker solve a rubik's cube.
firecellAug 9, 2010
In third grade all I used to do was sniff glue through a tube and play rubix cube
dyeagersAug 9, 2010
Did you know humans are animals. You sound like a christian claiming humans are above all animals and gods most important creation.
It's so sad to think most of the world thinks like this.
firecellAug 9, 2010
GET IN MAH BELLAY!
mrnaturalAug 9, 2010
I'd use less energy too if all I had to do was eat fruit and scratch my ass. Let's see Mr O pay a $300 electric bill.

Oh God! Why have you made us humans so energy inefficient than those apes!? What have we done to deserve this punishment before we even existed?!?!

Cool story Muhammed.

Guess who getting a surprise suicide bombing!
ninjaofpatienceAug 9, 2010
Google translate got me as far as "Shi Shi Vhesisci Hesi". I have no idea what the means.
eurynom0sAug 9, 2010
I got the same thing. I'm guessing it's Arabic Pig Latin for "dirka dirka mohammed jihad".
bracomadarAug 9, 2010
Since cars aren't very energy efficient, let's ride Orangutans. Right turn, Clyde.
iskinAug 9, 2010
I hope orangutans go to heaven when they die because they're so amusing to look at.
leif777Aug 9, 2010
I bet they're socialists too...

gryffon5147Aug 9, 2010
And I guess sloths are the most "energy efficient" of them all?
Closed AccountAug 9, 2010
They're not primates.
sandman64Aug 9, 2010
"They wake up early, after a long night's sleep"
so, um... how do they get a long night's sleep if they wake up early?
gefahrAug 9, 2010
uh, they go to sleep when it gets dark and wake at first light?
there's only 12-14 hours of daylight for most of the year, in most parts of the world.. leaving 10-12 hours of sleep
unitthreeAug 9, 2010
and in typical fashion the hybrid is ugly as hell.
amusedtodeathAug 9, 2010
That's great and all, but how do I charge my iPad with one? Is it hard to find the usb port under all the fur?
7king7kingAug 9, 2010
Maybe there bulged eye brow is their solar power.
volathAug 9, 2010
Yeah, but humans are the most efficient at traveling long distances.
bosskeyAug 9, 2010
I, for one, welcome our new orangutanmobile overlords
diguptruth77Aug 9, 2010
I'll bet they have very acidic stomachs, and can get the max nutrition from their food, unlike humans, who's unnatural diet has us eating already dead food, which is already "digested" as far as our stomach is concerned.
bpeps101Aug 9, 2010
Large brains consume a huge amount of food energy, we should simply get rid of them to be more eco friendly.
pika2000Aug 9, 2010
The real point of the article:
"But the trade-off," he added, "is that low energy throughput means less energy is available to do things like grow and reproduce. So orangutans grow slowly and reproduce slowly, which is evolutionarily risky because an orangutan might die before it passes on its genes."
There's a reason why the machines use us instead of orangutans.
