I'm all for the first amendment. Let's not forget, though, he published pictures of naked women for money, and wrapped "freedom" around himself like a flag. Which is fine. But doesn't really make him altruistic and a hero. I have nothing against Larry Flynt, and anyone who stands up to the government has my vote, but seriously, don't make more out of his motivation (to make money) than it was.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
Someone does not have to be altruistic to be a hero.
A lot of people view Flynt's fight as just a man trying to keep his business profitable. So what if it was. In the process of doing so, he changed peoples point of view, made people question their own thoughts, and caused people to take a deep breath and re-think our freedoms. That's what made him a hero.
Heroes are not made by ones' actions, they are found by the people.
So bizarre that Larry was on the correct side of this, opposing the ones who typically claim to hold the Constitution in such high regard. There's a similarity with Freedom Of Religion today. "Freedom" means for everyone, dumbasses.
Loved the video until the last bit about Hitler being "elected." It's a common misconception that a lot of people use to make a point about how a democracy can still mess up, but HItler wasn't elected. He was appointed Chancellor by the democratically elected President Hindenburg. Up until then, the Nazi Party was a minority in German politics. After Hitler's appointment, the Nazi Party quickly seized power forcefully, an event that's known as Machtergreifung.
No, Hitler *wasn't* elected Chancellor -- any more than Tony Blair was elected Prime Minister. The Reichstag was a parliamentary body. That doesn't mean Hitler overthrew the government. The Nazis did, in fact, win a democratic majority in the Reichstag (partly through intimidation, but still officially democratic), which gave the head of the party -- Uncle Adolf -- the right to be Chancellor, and Hinderberg therefore invited him to do so. Why is that so hard to understand?
Larry Flynt was like my number one hero when I was growing up, my older brother bought Hustler every month and had it hidden under his dresser so I read it all through the 70's when all that stuff happened to me. I would be honored to meet him someday, he has made me the pervert I am today!
wow its nice to see an American standing up for his rights thats hard to find today because the government has succeeded in making Americans into the monkey and the banana.

One of the comments from Youtube said it best: "He's not given enough credit."

Well said Larry. Well said.

If this country believes that our heroes that defended our freedom should be buried in Arlington, we should reserve a place for Flynt there.

In a world of increasing government control of the people I am glad there is at least 1 person standing up to it.

People in the US have never lived without the 1st Amendment...
It's funny how quickly we are trying to give away all our rights and freedoms in the name of safety and decency.
