Not at all apparently. Don't go anywhere near coconut trees or vending machines, never sleep, don't live somewhere where they have thunderstorms, and most of all don't be a left-hander or at least make sure you're using the right equipment. Then you should be good.
During 2000-2009 there were 11 unprovoked shark attacks that resulted in death in the US, as opposed to 1000+ deaths from bee and wasp stings (number unprovoked unknown).
Lies!
To induce unnecessary racial implications, I'm going to claim that:
FACT: Polar bears are the best type of bear.
ALSO YOU GUYS: Polar beers are the best type of beer
Wouldn't it be a better stat if they showed percentage by area of swimmable beaches? Yeah Cali has a lot of attacks but huge area of swimmable beaches. Alabama looks like the most dangerous place to swim.
If anything you should note the amount of deaths over the years - they are statically almost zero - compared to anything - dieing from a lighting strike, falling off a chair, eating a sandwich and chocking to death. Sharks deaths are way way at the bottom of the list of ways of dying. More people die from ladders but we don;t have shows on the fierceness of ladders. Yet on the other sid , sharks are being killed to extinction for some BS that it is high status to eat shark fin soup. sad. If you are in awe of the fierceness and mightiness of sharks - work to ban there extinction - ban killing them.
So according to this piece of information more than 46 people in the United States die each year from coconuts falling on their heads? I'm not sure I trust that statistic nor anything this graph says.
I don't care about these fancy shmancy statistics, my ass stays out of the water. I like my comfortable spot at the top of the food chain here on my particular patch of dry land. Just like I do not go parading around in the Serengeti, or playing grab-ass in the Grizzly infested forests of Alaska, I keep my two feet on the beach when I'm near the ocean. And it's not just paranoia; I just don't want to be eaten by a shark or bear who may decide to have a drum stick or two before he digs in to my organ meat.
These stats where they say you're more likely to die by lightning, vending machines etc... are all pretty bogus. It's all about proportions: Just as a random example, maybe 5 million people in the USA go swimming in the ocean each year. Probably close to 300 million are outside within a mile of a thunderstorm multiple times each year. So, yeah, you're more likely to die from lightning, but that's just because such a huge number are exposed to it each year. If everyone swam around in the ocean every year I'd be willing to bet there would be huge numbers of people injured and killed by sharks.

Why does Australia have such a large amount of deaths compared to everywhere else?
siblyAug 7, 2010
because that's where megashark lives
iamsaturdayAug 7, 2010
Aussies are so tough that they don't try to escape but instead attempt to fight the shark.

More dangerous species of shark.
