As I type this my Droid 2 is somewhere in America inside a FedEx box.
Can't wait to get rid of AT&T!

Me too, there's a Droid X in a FedEx box for me somewhere. Any day now!

I love 700kb 3G that ties up your ability to use the phone. I'll pass till Verizon gets LTE. Meanwhile, I will stick with ATT where I can pull down 2.2mbps with 3 bars and the ability to swap SIM cards.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
blatsekAug 21, 2010
I had ATT and Verizon's 3G is reliable throughout he entire day at a good constant speed. ATT's data network would be completely unusable at times
Closed AccountAug 21, 2010
@mirunit - your argument is the same one that AT&T uses in their commercials, and they completely miss the point. Who the f**k cares if your connection is faster when you have it, if it is unreliable for a lot of their customers for a lot of the time? I can listen to Pandora from South Carolina to Illinois on my Droid, can AT&T do that? Didn't think so.
Those commercials are meant to dupe people who don't think for themselves, and obviously it worked.
mirunitAug 21, 2010
@Protuhj
I have the service, and it works well. Also, I would be flying if I had to go from SC to IL.
"Who the f**k cares if your connection is faster when you have it"
I do more than listen to Pandora, idiot. Tethering is good. If bandwidth is so irrelevant, then EDGE should be find, because it is not that much slower than rural Verizon EVDO.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Incorrect. Phone calls take priority over data.

As I type this, my used MyTouch Slide from eBay is in SF inside a USPS box. Dropping my T-Mobile prepaid plan and going with their $59.99 500min/unlimited text/unlimited data plan.
T-Mobile is probably the most underrated carrier.
ezflipAug 21, 2010
"T-Mobile is probably the most underrated carrier."
In your area...maybe. But in my area, T-mobiles reception is right down there with AT&T's.
jack416Aug 22, 2010
True. Seems to me it's extremely area dependent. 4-5 bars in LA, OC, and SF.
nedbigbyssgAug 21, 2010
Doesn't the Droid 2 have reception problems even when nothing is touching it?

Congratulations on your new phone, honestly hope you enjoy it. Unlike a lot of people - I don't really care which phone other's choose to use. To each their own.
That said, I do get a bit frustrated reading all this bashing of AT&T. I've had NOTHING but good service from AT&T. In fact they've gone above and beyond.
First, after I finished college, my parents quit paying for my cellular service. Jobs were sort of in between during this phase, and going through multiple payroll set ups left my paychecks few and far in between. During this AT&T were awesome about leaving my service on as long as I upheld payment plans; plans in which I chose the dates of payments... they went 2 months without receiving a single $ from me, and kept my service on based on the "promise" to pay, which I did uphold. That earned them quite a bit of loyalty from me.
I currently live in Oklahoma, and have lived in New Mexico, Tennessee, and New York (albeit not NYC), all with perfectly fine coverage. One time I had an issue where I couldn't send any text messages for a month though... turns out I'd messed something up on the phone myself, no fault of AT&T, but hey - they credited the cost of texting to my account that month.
I currently have an iPhone 4, upgraded from an iPhone 3G. The only problem I've had with it? The proximity sensor, which is Apple's fault. No dropped calls, super fast 3G.
TL;DR: I just don't understand all this anti-AT&T sentiment. It seems largely unfounded or if people are taking isolated issues they read online and repeating them ad nauseum as if they were actually affected.
bugmenot2Aug 21, 2010
Guess what, the quality of service varies from area to area. You're in an area where AT&T has great service, but there are many areas where service is poor. Verizon happens to cover the largest number of people across the country with 3G.
theneptuneAug 21, 2010
Yeah, I guess I was just really lucky to have working service in 9 different cities across 4 different states. Also, I guess I was fortunate to live in Oklahoma / New York at the time of them giving me the awesome payment plan and refunding a month of text messaging (due to MY own fault?).
Huh.
I'm guessing the mass majority of the people complaining don't even have AT&T.
verdanicAug 22, 2010
I don't live in the States, I'm not on AT&T, and I'm not on one of their competitors.
You have had good luck, but a large number of others have not. You're forgetting how densely populated the problem areas often are - if you never need to in those areas, I'm sure your impression of the company will be far different. For other people, them being very cool(admittedly) about that texting issue probably isn't enough to get them off the fact that they constantly drop calls.
Always remember, especially in this age: The ones with the problems are the ones who complain and make all sorts of noise. Almost all of the rest are silent.
Again, haven't ever been on AT&T, these are just my observations from across the North border.
gooddamonAug 22, 2010
@TheNeptune
I used AT&T for a while. It worked OK, no real problems with dropped calls. But then, I live in a city that isn't very densely populated, with several good towers nearby, so the signal is usually pretty strong in most areas, regardless of carrier.
So why did I leave? AT&T customer service stinks. Never had a good experience calling them. I've been a happy T-Mobile customer for a little over a year now, and couldn't be happier. Still get good reception, and calling customer service doesn't feel like a punishment.

I understand people really hate AT&T but if your reception sucks then why the hell stay with the cellular provider and complain?
oofgegAug 21, 2010
Because you signed a contract and they charge you extreme amounts of money to terminate it early? And you're already invested?
reddfoxx1562Aug 21, 2010
A contract kinda requires both ends of the agreement to be fulfilled for any of it to be valid.
I know that's a little difficult to explain to a CSR or a collections agent, but courts understand it.
Closed AccountAug 21, 2010
But if you've signed a contract and created the conditions for the dodgy reception (moving house, etc), why should they let you go so easily?
If it sucks from day one, why would you want to stay with them?
The only time it makes sense to demand to leave is when AT&T do something to affect reception, such as providing defective phones or breaking their network.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

"

I have NEVER heard of anyone suing a cell provider to get out of a contract and winning - for whatever reason.
They got you by the balls - that's what you get when you sign up for those "free" phones.
xzorroxAug 21, 2010
You have the right to complain cause they charge you a ridiculous fee for discontinuing your subscription. Which I find it to be one of the more evil business practices in any industry that requires a customer to have a subscription.
along with a long list of other stuff that sucks.

cjm70Aug 21, 2010
Actually I've had AT&T for the last 5 years and I don't have problems (I don't have an iphone, my family has 2 smart phones and 3 other phones) and my coverage area is better than the competition in our area and the rates are similar to the other main brands.
kennmacAug 21, 2010
I get reception in places with my iPhone 4 where my 3GS never could.
atlAug 21, 2010
you people do understand that coverage quality varies by location, right?
glbernsAug 21, 2010
I think that's the point these people are making. I too am an ATT customer for something like 7 years. My coverage is usually better than any other providers, calls almost never have any problem. I don't have a smart phone and I live in a suburban environment. in my experience the people who complain about ATT coverage are a loud minority, most likely smart phone users in urban settings where any network would be strained due to significant iPhone use.
higherlogicAug 21, 2010
I never understood this either, unless you live in the boonies or something. I get great reception with AT&T. My girlfriend has Sprint, brother has T-Mobile, and sister has Verizon, and I get better coverage/reception than all of them.
clyentnineAug 21, 2010
My girlfriend and I are both on AT&T. I've had a Nokia e71 for a while now and never had reception problems (excepting being up in the mountains or wherever no one gets service). She, however, has an iPhone 3gs and one of my best friends has an iPhone 4. They're really the only people with whom I ever have connection issues.
I know the evidence is purely anecdotal, but suffice it to say I'm never surprised when I need to unenthusiastically repeat whatever potentially critical information I'm trying to communicate in the phone call.
evilkrustydollAug 21, 2010
It is idiots who don't do their homework when choosing a carrier, Verizon is mostly east-coast focused while AT&T is midwest and western states. My dad works in a Verizon call center here in Oklahoma and even he chose AT&T as his provider because he knows Verizon is s**tty out here.
Closed AccountAug 22, 2010
I live in NJ, use AT&T, and my reception beats Verizon customers a lot.
But I also beat other AT&T customers (by 2+ bars sometimes).
I have a Samsung Epix.
Just pointing out AT&T isn't always bad and Verizon always good in this east coast state.
c010rb1indusaAug 21, 2010
It's probably where you live. For us new yorkers, service is abysmal. You'll have 5 bars in NYC than all of a sudden... "Call Failed"...happens constantly
kvachonAug 21, 2010
Too many people, and too many tall buildings not much you can do about it. Without a massive investment in infrastructure. And AT&T has long run out of grant money for that. Its def terrible, that the center of the business world (NYC) cant use their service.
And it is that specific too. 200 miles up, here in Boston. I've never heard of a dropped AT&T call. Prob is the 1/10th population number
c010rb1indusaAug 21, 2010
Yeah but my friends Droid Incredible is fine. Constant and consistent service and 3G speeds. I went to college in Boston and while you're right about phone calls. 3G was much worse than competing carriers offerings. I love my iPhone, but really is the worst network out of the big 4 (Verizon, T-Mobile, and Sprint)
tiduAug 21, 2010
Never had any problems with AT&T either.
iagainstiAug 21, 2010
iPhone 3GS - I drop 3 out of 5 calls. I called AT&T to complain. They acknowledged I have an unusually high drop call rate, then suggested I spend $150 to buy a 3G microcell. I told them to f**k off - I'd rather spend the 150 to cancel my contract, then I'll just hack my iphone and take it to TMobile. Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
tashtego67Aug 21, 2010
I found this particularly funny because I called AT&T today to complain about dropped calls. My first call dropped at the voice menu, my second while the rep filled out a report, and my third call I made from a land line. They have a serious problem and I can't see keeping them past my contract if it is not resolved.
tsothaAug 21, 2010
In Greenville? That surprises me because I'd heard most of their problems were in highly congested areas like NYC.
tashtego67Aug 21, 2010
That's what I heard too, but my experience is not unique. My wife has the same problem. From the comments below it seems that the problem is too few towers for the call volume. Greenville county has added about 150,000 people in the last 10 years so maybe they haven't increased capacity sufficiently. A tech support person did suggest turning off 3G but did not explain why that would help.
Closed AccountAug 22, 2010
Turning off 3G will tell your phone to not attempt broadband. When it switches between what is essentially wireless dial-up and broadband, it interrupts the current connection. If not all of your towers support 3G, they will surely support the older standard.
eodp3Aug 21, 2010
this is dumb but when I switch my iphone 3gs to EDGE mode, ie turning off 3G (yes, i know i lose a faster internet connection) .. it of course goes back to using GSM for voice (TDMA+FDMA) I haven't dropped a call in over a week.
On 3G, call drops almost 3 times a day.
I say whoever is providing their 3G RAN gear is total crap.
tsothaAug 21, 2010
The big drawback to GSM is that as the cell becomes loaded the coverage area shrinks. When you lay out a network, you plan for a certain amount of traffic. Building out a cell site is expensive, too, so you can't really afford to be generous in your assumptions.
If the traffic is substantially more than your projections, all your cells will be a little bit too far apart, and calls will start dropping at cell boundaries.
All of which is to say it may have nothing to do with the gear they're using and everything to do with call volume that exceeds projections.
monkeyvoodooAug 21, 2010
@tsotha
In the end, it doesn't matter if it's call volume or equipment, the calls are getting dropped, and it IS within AT&T's power to fix either cause of the problem.
Where I live (not a highly congested area), when 3G is turned on, I can't complete a call to save my life. The only time 3G works reliably is at 2AM. Edge is always reliable for calls, and often the data throughput is faster, with less latency than 3G. It's been like this for years. There are clearly enough people regularly using the 3G network in this city to warrant additional towers or whatever they need to increase capacity. Problem is, they just don't care.
The worst part is, I'd be fine if they let me simply stop paying for the 3G part of their service that never works. Or if there were some way of getting out of the contract since they're not keeping up their end of it.
eodp3Aug 21, 2010
@tsotha
yup agreed about the projections and thus the poor cell site planning.. I guess I forgot to mention that too. I used to do drive testing in urban environments for a asian carrier, so I know how that can be a big factor.
With 3G wCDMA, the noise floor increases, theoretically unlimited number of calls, thus providing the carrier with better spectrum efficiency, but with GSM, you have a max number of freq and time slots, thus max number of calls per cell site.
With traffic more than projections, with GSM, a call can't even be initiated but with 3G, it could, but with poor quality and the high chance of dropping a call.
( I do notice that my drops tend to be at certain areas, so I'm suspecting that their handover speed from cell site to cell site is very poor... ie cell sites spaced too far apart or too low power)
However, all this info is recorded as OM's (operational measurements) in the BSC's MSCs etc.. so they KNOW they are getting a certain rate of drops on their 3G network.
So as @monkeyvoodo says, they have the power to do something about it.. but instead they keep maintaining their poor customer experience.
Closed AccountAug 22, 2010

College students us, not take phone calls easily, ATT <-> ATT free. People then take calls. Otherwise, wait 4 weekends/nighttime. Hence, I get GG'ed if in crunchtime/project/assignment due. I hate it, but there's practically nothing I can do other than embracing the almighty.

monkeyvoodooAug 21, 2010
I live in Oregon, and have traveled all over the state. 3G rarely works anywhere. It's decent in rural areas. For example, in a town with a population of ~5,000, I was getting decent speeds without dropped calls. Everywhere else, it has sucked to the point of being basically unusable, both for calls and for data.
ezflipAug 21, 2010
I live in Michigan, and ATT sucks everywhere except big cities like Detroit, Grand Rapids, and Lansing. I have a few friends with iphone 3gs's and unless we are in one of the previously mentioned cities, they cannot serf the web at all without a wifi connection. Whats the point of having a smart phone if you still have to be on a wifi connection to access your email?
I have a Droid X and can hit the web just about anywhere in the State (unless I am a few miles deep into the woods somewhere, or out in the middle of Lake Michigan, but I can usually pick up a tower from Wisconsin. I know this because the time on my phone changes because of day light savings)
alphareyxAug 21, 2010

I have no problems with ATT in my house 5 bars, my data is also awesome, 2.1 down 1.2 up. Sprint and T-mobile gets 0 bars in my house. Verizon gets 2-3 with worse data rates. I've had my iPhone 4 for two weeks and have had zero dropped calls. But everyone online tells me it sucks. Not for me or any of my friends with att. I live in northern Orange County, CA.
Also I go to school in San Luis Obispo, CA no problems. I had a little bit of poor coverage in my on campus apartment, sent it through the mark the spot att app. After 2 months I stopped having problems and I got a text saying they added to my area. So I was very pleased. My friend has the droid, his data is way slower than mine. Plus I talk on the phone while surfing the web all the time.
Everything I said is the opposite of what people are screaming from the hills. So obviously I am a liar...or the biggest complainers about att are non att users/ the few unlucky people who get crappy service (SF)
sirbetaAug 21, 2010
You just happen to live in a high coverage area. I'm sure under those circumstances they're great. Almost all mobile companies are great when you live right near the antennas, but AT&T has pretty bad coverage across the US.

Try to do that on Times Square in NYC. In fact try to do anything on the phone. :)
tristanoneilAug 21, 2010
Agreed, in my case AT&T bought out a smaller carrier that offered better rural coverage in Vermont than Verizion or Sprint. So in my case I get great service, I guess it all just depends where you live. AT&T has also been consistently building 3G coverage to various areas in Vermont, I usually get around 2 - 2.5 down. I actually like AT&T, I'm sorry if you don't.
adhomineeAug 21, 2010
It depends on the area obviously. Heavily.
GSM tends to be worse at handling many users, so places with high population density (San Francisco, New York City) tend to have worse AT&T reception.
80centjackAug 21, 2010
"Plus I talk on the phone while surfing the web all the time."

You do realize it is also useful to be able to look things up on the web during one of those calls, right? Just because you don't, does not mean others use the phone like you do.

I had huge problems with AT&T. One bar at my house, 1-2 bars at work. Dropped calls between my house and work. Therefore, I may assume AT&T is the worst carrier on earth.
Just kidding. How can a person proclaim their coverage in their little corner of the world constitutes a valid sample of a carrier's service quality throughout the rest of his county/state/region/nation???
monkeyvoodooAug 21, 2010
Because all that matters to a person is the coverage in the area they use a product. If you bought a car and it drove fine everywhere except the area you lived, you'd probably think it was the s**ttiest car on the planet, regardless of the rest of the population that doesn't have any problems.
mystikalAug 21, 2010
Lucky bastard. Im in South OC and I had s**tty bars in my house, and 3G was spotty.
But now I have a MicroCell. And its awesome.

MicroCell - i.e. use your internet connection for cell service? Yet you still use your cell minutes? BRILLIANT!
masterkenobiAug 21, 2010
I have heard plenty of people complain about AT&T's service, and I live in NYC. I also am going by what Consumer Reports said about AT&T late last year. I don't consider Consumer Reports' findings as anecdotal.
blapierreAug 21, 2010
You live in north Orange County but goto school in San Luis Obispo? Do you just drive all day?
kiantechAug 23, 2010
no, obviously I stay there while going to school, I was just trying to increase my anecdotal findings from one area to two, because I know where one carrier can be the best/worst depending where you are.
jack416Aug 21, 2010
Each to his own. AT&T is 3, SOMETIMES 4 bars in my hometown in OC. I get 4-5 bars with T-Mobile. That plus the lower price is the reason I've been with T-Mobile for 2 years.
xdynabladeAug 21, 2010
Ever heard of an outlier?
mc_carterAug 21, 2010
That's Because there is an AT&T service Tower on the Cuesta campus. Go anywhere else on the Central Coast and AT&T get pretty bad service.
Closed AccountAug 21, 2010
Yeah that is pretty much the customer service you get at AT&T. Also, yeah I checked out Sprint's service, and they have much better coverage than you AT&T. Also they are able to charge a lot less than you, how is that possible?
6502samAug 21, 2010
I would ask some people in your area about Sprint before jumping on board with them.
I have never heard anything good about them.
hev87Aug 21, 2010
Agreeing with 6602Sam here... I never had any problems with Sprint until I moved, and now my house seems to be in a black hole for reception. I don't live in BFE, either... it's just a spotty area. No carrier's perfect everywhere!
lukegallAug 21, 2010
i spent the entire day on my iphone.. crystal clear reception.. half of you probably don't have an iphone.. if you dont like it then dont get it.. stop bitching

I agree with you, I have had AT&T for 5 years and have only had dropped calls a handful of times. i don't own an iPhone (sacrilege, right?) and don't plan on owning one. The only major issue I have ever had with AT&T was a few months ago when the service went down for my part of town. I went to the AT&T store and saw dozens of others lining up outside trying to use their phones. They had it back up and running within a couple hours. Based on personal experience, I really don't think AT&T is as bad as people say they are....then again I didn't drop $400 for a f**king telephone either, I'm rather thrifty with my money that way. Plus I'm not a douchebag so I don't need an iPhone.
goldenchaosAug 21, 2010
The only problems I've ever had with AT&T are in NYC. AT&T is damn terrible in major cities, and it's not the fault of any phone. Everywhere else, AT&T's service is actually pretty great.
hurricanedcAug 21, 2010
Considering a ton of people live in major cities it's not really excusable.
goldenchaosAug 21, 2010
Oh, I don't think it's excusable - in fact, whenever I go into the city it pisses me off. But the point is that AT&T's service isn't *as* bad as most of the crap they get for it.
ezflipAug 21, 2010
Ummm, I dont live in NYC, in fact, anywhere outside of the "major" cities in Michigan (ie. Grand Rapids, Lansing, Detroit) ATT service is HORRIBLE. I wouldnt take that network even if it were free. I have four friends that have iphone 3gs's and all four of them look to me when they need to look something up without a wifi connection available. They drop a lot of calls (all be it not as many as others have complained about) but it is the lack of data service that gets me. I actually use my smart phone as a smart phone. It just doesnt make sense to have a smart phone and only be able to use it as a dumb phone unless you have a wifi connection.

It depends on where you live. I live in south Florida, and AT&T gets great reception. Verizon gets ok reception. On the other hand, I have friends and family in South Carolina and AT&T is s**t there, while Verizon has the best signal. I guess I'm just in an area dominated by AT&T, or I would be using Verizon or another company without thinking twice about it.

why is a rabbit talking on a phone
youseinaviAug 21, 2010
My family's been with AT&T since my dad first got a cell phone about 10 or 12 years ago. I got my first cell phone 8 years ago. We stayed with the company when it switched to Cingular and then back to AT&T. I've lived in the middle of farmland in PA, Philly, Baltimore and DC area, places in between, visit NYC often and I really have no major complaints with the company (aside from how long you sit with customer service, but that's nothing special to ATT&T). It's very rare I ever drop to no bars and I can't remember the last time I had a dropped call. I used to have dropped calls often on my last phone, a razr, but since upgrading to Samsung Impression, I'm going to blame that on the phone. I've had this new phone a year now and can't recall a single dropped call. I hear my friends bitch all the time about their Verizon or Sprint or T-mobile, but I have yet to hear a friend with AT&T bitch, even my friends with iphones. They may not be perfect, but from what I see from my friends, I'm sticking with them, since they seem to be the best option in my area.
ssgoodmanAug 21, 2010
few people remark about good service but everyone complains about bad.
azwethinkweizmAug 21, 2010
Maybe I'm one of the lucky ones but I love my Blackberry that uses AT&T. I've never had a call dropped and never had issues with people not hearing what I'm saying.
abstractj3Aug 21, 2010
I've had pretty good luck with ATT too. Recently I've had a few problems with reception, but I think my phone may be going since I've been with them for 4 years. No issues in MA, CT, RI, or NH.

Here's a thought.....when having reception or otherwise any other problems with your cell phone, DONT CALL CUSTOMER CARE FROM THAT PHONE!
iJailbreakAug 21, 2010
AT&T works fine on my iPhone 4 outside of Houston. The only time I have problems is when I'm in the middle of nowhere like when I was driving through Elgin, Texas.
Go have fun switching to your new Droid devices. Let me know how much you love the lag.
jack416Aug 21, 2010
What lag? 2.1 seems to run fine on my friends' Droids. It seems to lag slightly when you're running 50 different apps at once.
iJailbreakAug 21, 2010
There's lag on the brand new Droid 2 that was just released on Android 2.2. Why is there any lag at all? I don't understand how Android users just overlook it or act like it's not there because it's there and is very noticeable.
But maybe I'm just used to having a phone that has a touch-screen that is actually good and doesn't lag and feel like it's extremely cheap.
Act like there's little to no lag all you want, but it's extremely noticeable, even on a brand new Droid 2 and on a brand new Vibrant that I just tested yesterday.
Why is it that an iPhone from two years ago has absolutely NO lagging problems but a Droid 2 and a Vibrant running 2.1/2.2 both have problems?
And no, they aren't running 50 different apps at once. Stop defending the phone because you know it sucks.
Sent from my iPhone 4 without any lag.
jack416Aug 22, 2010
@iJailbreak
"And no, they aren't running 50 different apps at once. Stop defending the phone because you know it sucks."
I dunno, you sound like you're frothing at the mouth just from this statement alone. I'm not trying to defend any phone because you think that I think it sucks. Your post smells of fanboy.
iJailbreakAug 22, 2010
I'm not bashing the phone, and I'm not posting from fanboyism. I wasn't stating the Android device itself sucks. I'm saying stop defending the phone and making excuses for the touch-screen because you know it (the screen) sucks.
They're cool phones. But I've used numerous Android devices for more than a quick five second test, and every one of the screens has a very noticeable lag and it's unusable and people act like it's not there when it clearly is.
But yeah, it definitely is the fanboyism since I'm so used to have a phone with a touch-screen that actually works like it should. f**k Apple though. They suck because they are Apple!
jack416Aug 22, 2010
Meh. 2.2 Froyo doesn't lag at all on my friend's Droid (very first one that came out). He just got the update recently and it loads everything smoothly and quickly. Software optimizations can go a long way.
frankiepdxAug 21, 2010
I have finally joined the dark side with an iPhone 4. I have never owned and iPhone and I have yet to drop a call or lose reception after a month of use. I had a Windows mobile and a Nokia and dropped a call at least once a day.
I live in Portland, OR.
daryl209Aug 21, 2010
I work for AT&T Customer Care, and I'll tell you the single most annoying thing we get....people who call FROM THERE PHONES to tell us there having issues with dropped calls. Because one of two things will happen...
1. The call drops during our interaction, have to call the customer back, customer is pissed. Try to determine exactly what's going on but the call drops and the customer does not have another phone.
or 2. The customer is also on the device, but I can hear them loud an clear, declines to troubleshoot, just wants us to throw money at them for their dropped calls. It's really funny when the customer is on the phone with me on the supposed problem phone for a good 15 minutes and the call does not drop.
Oh and most of the time, and I kid you not, it's always about an IPHONE! No matter which one, 2G to 4, when customer says "I get dropped call", 9 out of 10 times, it's an iPhone of some iteration.
Point being, yes there's problems in some areas with AT&T, San Francisco is a mess, and so is New York in some places though there have been upgrades to improve NY. We either get the customers who really are having a problem and are either smart and call in from another phone so I can troubleshoot and act accordingly, or call in from the phone that's having the issues and we get nowhere but a pissed off customer.
Or we get the douchebag who thinks to himself "hey, AT&T is having all of these problems with drops calls everywhere else, I bet they get credit, lets see how much I can get out of this CSR just by saying I get bad service and even ask for his/her supervisor"
theeggandiAug 21, 2010
i gotta say, ive had AT&T as my cell phone service for years now, and i never really had any real problems in regards to reception and whatnot. ive even done my fair share of traveling around the country and never noticed any significant lack of reception or dropped calls in any specific area. the only consistent problem ive had is that when i make a phone call, sometimes it simply wont connect. it wont ring even if ive got full bars. the solution to this is to just hang up and redial, and it always connects the second time. a minor nuisance, really.
coincidentally, ive had my xbox 360 for about 5 years now, and it has never once crashed. so perhaps im just really lucky, electronically speaking. Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
sdragonneAug 21, 2010
I live in Northern NJ and have Verizon - the only places I lose signal are where ALL providers have no coverage and even my XM radio cuts out! @ my workplace the Verizon signal (even in the basement!) is full, the guys with AT&T constantly complain they have to walk a 1/2 block away to get one bar...... just my personal experience and 2 cents ......
dengzhiAug 21, 2010
so iphone4 or HTC EVO ? i haven't decided yet
ezflipAug 21, 2010
Throw the droid x or droid 2 into that mix and it all really depends on where you live. Most places, one service provider dominates one area of service. In my area, if you are looking for great 3g service but spotty voice service, VZW is the way to go. If you want spotty voice and spotty 3g, Sprint is the way. If you want ok voice service and zero 3g service, ATT is it.
sixthreeAug 21, 2010
There really isn't much of a comparison between the iPhone 4 and EVO, go with Apple. Gonna be a few more years before Android catches up.
jdmulloyAug 22, 2010
I don't know what you're talking about. I get great 3G and voice service with Sprint, unless I'm in a basement, but that affects all carriers. Even if I only have 1 bar I can make a call with no problems.
jdmulloyAug 22, 2010
EVO for the following reasons, true multitasking, 4G and Sprint will cost you less even with the $10 4G charge. Sprint's base price is less that AT&T's but includes unlimited data (not just 2GB), unlimited text messaging (extra on AT&T), Navigation (both TeleNav and Google Nav), free nights starting at 7 instead of 9, and unlimited mobile to mobile on all networks, not just Sprint.
