As a New Yorker, I am thrilled to learn new ways to get away with parking illegally.

That's a hot tip for parking... NOT!

^This guy was dead for several days and got 7 parking tickets.
"Police detective Bennie Smith said Waldo was seated face-forward on the passenger side of the back seat, was fully clothed and had the car's ignition key in his possession when he was found. "

I'd buy that for a dollar!

"No one…wait, let me think..ok, I was right NO ONE is that sound of a sleeper that they can’t hear someone knocking on the window of a car door."
I have issue with this. I've fallen dead asleep sitting up in chairs with all sorts of crap going on around me. I can sleep through multiple alarms and the worst of thunderstorms. I've also napped in my car between long class breaks back in college.
It's totally possible.

I had a coworker that, when asleep, you could throw your car keys at him and he wouldn't wake up.

When I was living in Japan, my wife and I were awoken one night by a car honking outside our house. Just one constant, blaring BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP. I looked outside and saw a car parked in the bar parking lot next door. It was the only nearby car and I thought it just had a really irritating car alarm. So after a minute or two of "please stop please stop please stop", I put on some clothes and went outside.
There was a guy sitting in the fully-reclined driver's seat, feet on the steering wheel, drunk, asleep, and blowing the horn. I pounded on the window and shouted to wake him up, but no luck. I considered that he might be dead but then saw that he was breathing. Then I started rocking the car as violently as I could and finally the guy rolled over, taking his feet off the steering wheel.
When I turned around, there were like like twenty people watching from windows around the area, I took a bow.
So, what was my point, oh yeah, the guy COULD have just been a deep sleeper.

Alcohol induced knock outs are different to sound sleeping / death, but I see your point.
Also, cool story, bro

Why does it matter that you were in Japan or that you had to put on clothes to go outside?

It sets the scene and makes it more realistic for the reader. Basic storytelling tips here!

You guys know whats fun if you have some extra quarters and see a parking maid coming? Walk slightly ahead of her and feed the meters.
pinchduckAug 7, 2010
People have been ticketed for that. It sucks, but it's true.

Bad bad advice. You CAN get a DUI for sleeping in the back seat of your car.
orangetideAug 7, 2010
leaving the keys in the ignition for the radio or to operate the power windows will get you a DUI pretty much everywhere. if you have your keys in your pocket and you in the back seat it is more up to the judgment of the officer. I've seen it go either way.

I won't pay 'em when I'm dead, either. And taxes. I won't pay them when I'm dead. It's sort of like the ultimate Tea Party F.U. to the government.

if someone tries to wake me I usually pretend I didn't hear them. if I was sleeping in my car and someone was knocking on the window I would more than likely not be interested in what they had to say, especially a cop. so best to just keep sleeping.

Why are there two steering wheels in that picture?
