I had the hottest teacher in high school for calculus. I paid attention so much I got an A in the class. Maaaan how I looked forward to that class everyday!
cannabistAug 11, 2010
Yeah, I know what you mean. The best thing about English class was my teacher's huge ass.

I had Mrs. Mann, a form NFL cheerleader for English. Only teachers name I still remember 10 years later.

dweller99Aug 11, 2010

blackinthmiddleAug 11, 2010
@ronin801
It's not that people didn't think she was hot. But she said she was so hot it got her fired. Sorry, as Leviathan433 said, she wasn't *that* hot.
Besides, in the rare situation where a woman gets fired for being too hot it's because maybe she's flirting with a married man and the wife also works for the company and has the power to fire her or some other rare situation. If I'm, say, a doctor and I have a ridiculously hot secretary, believe me, the last thing I'm going to do is fire her!
vitriolandangstAug 11, 2010
So the score at half time is 33,216,201 to 1, so I guess we've got to worry about the ONE TIME someone lost by being attractive now.

I know QQ...they have it so rough. They never buy drinks at bars, and people fawn all over them. Rough life.
rattusrattusAug 11, 2010
I'd actually rather buy my own drinks than be obligated to talk to someone who seems to believe that attractive women are a separate species without a problem in the world. You may find this shocking--but being attractive has done f**k all to help with my depression. If anything, it's made it worse, as I seem to bring out the creepy in yuppies, which is the last thing my neurotic ass needs.
asoap69Aug 11, 2010
RattusRattus is right. The hotter the girl the more mental issues they have. I've met some very attractive women that cutting marks and the such. Or the ones that are drop dead gorgeous but desperately want boob jobs, or lip injections because they aren't perfect enough.
I'm hardly going to feel any sympathy though. We all have our own problems.
theundertokerAug 11, 2010
Oh, poor baby.
STFU Rattus.
blackinthmiddleAug 11, 2010
@Rattus
So are you trying to say that life is *worse* for you as an attractive woman? Sure, there's no perfect situation in life. Everything has its benefits and drawbacks. But you're simply not going to convince anybody that being attractive is detrimental. Who knows why you're depressed. But the, "And I'm so beautiful to boot, so that makes things worse..." is pure bulls**t.
@asoap69
So now you're a psychologist? How many drop dead gorgeous women do you know? Here, let me play psychologist as well. I'm guessing that whether or not a person cuts themselves has *nothing* to do with being too beautiful.
asoap69Aug 11, 2010
@blackinthemiddle. I hang out with 6-8 drop dead gorgeous women, including 1 professional model, and close friends with 3 sexy ladies. I'm not a psychologist, but this isn't rocket science. Ego and identity are simpler to understand then HTML.
These girls are going through life getting special treatment and special attention just based upon how they look. They are getting offers from dirty old men who want to buy them gifts in exchange for sex. When you approach one of these women at a party or something, they know why you're talking to them. They know this is just based upon how they look. Then it gets even more messed up because some of them want more and more attention, they want attention from for example, pro athletes. So they get hooked on becoming more and more beautiful, which is when the bigger boobs come out, the lip injections.
Now for the cutting. I'm not saying every person that cuts themselves is too beautiful. If you assumed that, then you're an idiot. Now sit back, and follow this logic.
- Beautiful girls are more likely to have mental disorders because of how they are treated.
- People with mental disorders tend to cut themselves in a cry for help, or frustration, or in the case of being beautiful to even uglify themselves up.
The same thing goes for women who believe they are unnatractive. Is the next thing you're going to tell me that women are annorexic because they think they're too skinny?
blackinthmiddleAug 11, 2010
@asoap69 or should I say, Dr. Phil
So based on your large sampling size of "six to eight" drop dead gorgeous women and your own admission that you're not a psychologist, you still don't feel like an absolute jackass for stating that beautiful girls are more likely to have mental disorders? Seriously, dude, shut the f**k up! You're embarrassing yourself!!!
rattusrattusAug 12, 2010
@blackinthemiddle
No, I'm not saying it's worse, but attractive women hardly lead charmed lives that most people assume they do. Also--notice the "if" in the sentence; I'm saying if it has affected my problems, more likely it's made them worse. Frankly, some dude pulling over in his SUV to leer at my t**s makes me want to crawl back into bed. Nor am I very fond of the fact that men just wander over to me to pat my tattoos and piercings. My main point is attractive women are people, just like you, who have problems. A certain subset of society treating you differently isn't going to magically negate those problems. Being an attractive woman doesn't automatically mean you're going to use your looks to manipulate people for money, etc. I work in a research lab, my boyfriend isn't rich, and while I think he's hot, he's not considered to be particularly attractive by society at large. He's not hideous either, but if he was, it wouldn't affect the reasons that I like him.
I know we all like to sit around and bitch about how some people have it so easy, but really, if we're going to call bulls**t on something, I would have to say it's the idea that some subset of the population has life handed to them. It's like when people start talking about welfare and how black people have it so easy because of all these programs to help them--it's total bulls**t. Not the best example, as the quantity of bulls**t in that statement is higher than the quantity in Ronin801's statement, but you get the idea.
rattusrattusAug 12, 2010
Also--while I don't agree with asoap69 that being attractive makes women crazy, I think we can all agree, that anyone buying into society's bulls**t stereotypes/ideals, would probably be a little crazy. Look at how men are portrayed on television, or the stereotypes about them. Regardless of anyone's opinions, there's a lot of pressure on women to be attractive. Some women think it's normal to spend their whole lives dieting and fretting about their weight. It's enough to make any sane human being a little bats**t crazy. Although, my particular flavor of bats**t crazy has a strong biochemical basis.

ALL your dreams got shattered when an expected move by a bar replaced you with a hot female? ok...
blackinthmiddleAug 11, 2010
Dude, when you go to a bar, who would you rather be served by? All things being equal, I want to be served by the slim chick with the nice face and rack.
There are too many damn whiners on this thread. Do you cry because some dudes are 6'6" and better equipped to play basketball than you are? Do you cry because your friend's dad is rich and he won't ever have to worry about money? Do you cry because someone has a natural gift for talking and it opens all kinds of doors for them?
Stop being a bitch. What you're learning is that some people are better equipped to do things. A) Women get hired for their good looks ALL THE TIME. For the reason diggers have posted (ie. "I'd rather be served by someone with a rack and a nice look). It makes money, which is why people don't get upset about it. Any company that does any form of product sales will tell you that a busty attractive woman would sell more than 5 average/ugly people combined.

Seriously, there is ALWAYS going to be people DISCRIMINATED against because businesses want whomever will make them the most money. The issue is; if your qualifications are the same.
If you think you can be attractive to MORE MEN who go into that bar and get them buying drinks -- then you've got a case.
The real problem is a lack of jobs and an economy that rewards companies that outsource. NOT women stealing jobs now that male dominated jobs are drying up. If you could be a banker instead of a bartender -- then you wouldn't be complaining -- am I right?

stackoleeAug 11, 2010
When I worked in retail, I encountered multiple managers who purposely never hired attractive women (generally over protestations from the staff). They all had the same logic: "hot" girls generally had too many hangers-on, too many men would try to flirt with them, and they were more likely to spend their shifts on the phone. Their logic, not mine, I swear...
But once I graduated to the white collar business world, that logic flipped 180 degrees. Attractive women not only are favored but generally considered smarter and more "hireable" then their unattractive peers.
Just my observations :)
Closed AccountAug 11, 2010
Goes with men too though. There have been studies that attractive people make a certain percentage more than similarly qualified normal to ugmo folks. Part of it is looks but also part of it is personality. Good looking folks tend to be more comfortable in group environments and communication.

My mother was the deputy superintendent of a maximum security mens prison and just before retirement, acting warden. Before I could even get into the prison a guard would stop me and get my information and always ask me to button up my blouse or pull down the hem of my skirt (and when I was in high school I looked pretty lame so imagine an awkward teen nun looking even more prudish).
I once got to attend a play by the prisoners held in the back of the building and all the women were surrounded by guards 5 rows away from the "good" prisoners. If the men are willing to screw an inmate with a mop on his head, they are more than willing to take down an attractive prison guard.

vitriolandangstAug 11, 2010

but "as a prison guard" -- no, I think you actually WANT them to look as manly as possible in that instance. Seriously -- who doesn't think a pretty frail girl wouldn't become the object of affection rather than the guard in most prisons whether populated by men or women?
ishqboliAug 11, 2010
while i agree that being hot isn't grounds for firing someone, sometimes it isn't really a question of having a pretty face, but a question of dressing appropriately. when you go to work looking like a supermodel with your cleavage hanging out and your skirt barely covering your ass, i think it's fair to say that you look too hot to look professional. being fired for being naturally good-looking is one thing, but all workers should be expected to look presentable. i find it hilarious how many people i see show up for an interview looking like sorority girls looking for good times.

I'm an engineer at a manufacturing company and they once tried a female engineer. She only lasted 3 months, after making a mess of herself everyday for crying because she had a hard time understanding the company's manufacturing process, she sued for sexual harassment. Which was honestly BS.
I'm not saying all women engineers would be balloons of emotional distress, but companies are very skeptical about hiring a female on a predominant male area because of problems like this.
rpatrick819Aug 11, 2010
I think most men would be happy to have these women on their staff in many different positions.
pipedawg101Aug 11, 2010
Ok, I get the prison guard thing. But the cases others seem idiotic and unfair.
shozikuAug 11, 2010
I call shenanigans. Attractive women just don't get turned down for work, period. If they're stupid and unqualified they eventually get let go, but they definitely get hired to start out. Unless of course the hiring manager has self esteem and jealousy issues, and of course, female also.
jackschitttAug 11, 2010
I'm sorry, but I fully agree with not having attractive women as prison guards.
It would be like throwing fresh meant to a pack of wild dogs.
There's a reason why they tell even the homeliest looking women to not show any skin or to say or do anything that could even remotely be interpreted as sexual. Some of these men have not touched a woman in years or decades, and the temptation for some of them is simply too much for them to resist, especially the "lifers" who have little to nothing left to lose.
Put an attractive female in some of these prisons, and you might as well hang a big "Rape Me" sign around her neck.
--------------------------
As for some of the other male-dominated positions, productivity does play a role in the decision making process. It may not be right, it may not even be legal. But it's reality. While there are exceptions, an attractive female is not as physically strong as her male counterparts, and it's very likely will simply not be able to keep up with everybody else. Further, if a bunch of guys are wasting time whistling, catcalling, and trying to figure out how to f**k the hottie that just got hired last week, productivity overall suffers. Yes, this does happen. Yes, it is taken under consideration -- a woman who may not be able to keep up and is drawing the attention of the men who are now not entirely paying attention to their jobs is a liability in terms of productivity. It becomes very difficult to get rid of her without facing the possibility of lawsuits, so it's just easier to avoid the situation by not hiring her at all.

I have a feeling this is about attractive women (or women who consider themselves attractive) thinking they deserve everything they want, and looking for something to blame when they're actually turned down for something. AKA "don't hate me because I'm beautiful"

Do attractive women really need jobs?

I fully support this type of discrimination.

Hot women get the world handed to them on a silver platter. If they had half a brain - theyre pretty much set for life.
Screw this article.
