Young black people that want to be gangsters will ask for his 3 cents back. Older, educated black men will give you like 10 bucks in tips.
It's a stereotype but it's true.
True story, I was called to a police station a few weeks after I delivered to a black guy and asked questions about him because he murdered someone and god arrested and they found our pizza receipts.
Consequently, he also didn't tip.
Thus: people who do not tip are murderers and should be arrested.

I've never waited tables or delivered pizza's, but I've always heard the same. A friend of mine who's waited tables or tended bar for 10 years told me one time they always fight to not be the one serving a table of black people, because they know that a s**tty tip will come out of that table.
Stereotypes become stereotypes for a reason. Most of the time they're true. Black people don't tip.

What's there to not get? The delivery driver used a racial slur and was fired. It doesn't matter whether he's black or white, a slur is a slur, and as a result he was fired.

I can only speak for myself, but I always leave a tip, like - don't argue with a police officer, don't sleep with your girlfriend's sister or mother, always carry an umbrella in your car etc.

I worked in a restaurant for a while during undergraduate school. Most of the people working there, including myself are in no way racist. But when you say something like "black people don't tip" you usually get the response of "don't stereotype".
But here's the thing...It's not a stereotype if it's true. It's shocking how crappy of a tip they can leave you with, if anything at all. I wouldn't say it's as worst as someone who is not from this country though.

Think that's what it's going to boil down to is how much of a paycheck they are going to get. Even though the owner of the store in question to the appropriate action, fired the driver, apologized to the family, you can bet the farm that there will be a lawsuit or some kind of monetary settlement out of this.

It's 2010, I don't know about where you live, but here our delivery drivers have mobile units for debit and credit and can print their own receipts. Perhaps it's the same situation in this case. That or the driver keyed the order in at the store for some reason, but I didn't think drivers usually handle the registers.

I used to work at Domino's and I can vouch there's a computer system that folk answering calls can type comments in...it has 2 'sections' -- 1 for employees only "Customer scams us" "give free pizza next order" "outside delivery area" etc. and one giving driver directions/tips "School" "behind gas station" "on dirt road behind trailer" etc.
Its clear someone who took calls filled in the 'wrong' field....thing is the drivers generally don't take calls unless its REAL slow.....they are rushing in and out grabbing orders...so the driver being fired seems a rush to judgement, especially if it was an Order taker (or manager) that put such a remark out.

So...it's okay for the workers to write racial slurs to advise other workers what they're dealing with? Why did it have to say "gentlemen don't tip" it could have said, "never tips" and there would be no problem.
It seems like this is something that the whole store should be dealing with and this driver got caught, but whoever saw it and did nothing about it should also be reprimanded.

If you want good service, try telling the server as soon as they walk up that you are going to give a huge tip at least 20% no matter what the service is like because you care more about them as a person than the service. Then ask if you can pray for them about anything... You'll usually get a request... Even if you don't pray, it's good insight and opens them up, then you'll get better service. I'm black. I tip 20-25% (sometimes 33% if what I order is less than 10 dollars) regularly unless I really hate you.
By the way, I grew up in Texas and there are some places I wouldn't eat at. Denny's treated me like s**t and would almost WITHOUT ERROR serve me last. Note: I've only eaten at a Texas Denny's four times and three of the four times I got crappy service.
By the way, it could be possible that servers get so used to treating black people like s**t they don't realize it. Or they assume they'll get a bad tip and react to them badly or are inattentive and thus earn their s**tty tip.
The point is, I'm proof that black people are excellent tippers and proof that not all black people are s**tty tippers. And I know personally from experience that servers treat black people like s**t at diners but not all servers treat black people like s**t at diners (not even at all Denny's because I've been served really well at a Denny's at midnight on a Sunday in California).

people need to work at a restaurant business before making any comments about stereotype. google "blacks don't tip" and you'll see tons of comments how true it is. MOST BLACKS DON'T TIP.
i used to be a server and i treated most customers equally, including well-known nontippers. i digested cuz where i worked, we split tips equally among servers. however i can understand why many waiters mistreat black customers, since they LOSE money by serving non-tippers. they have to pay their busboy and chef out of their own pocket if they don't get tips.
if you're black and you're mistreated, leave no tip(or 5% if you're generous). but AT LEAST tell the waiter why. maybe a little note saying that you're a normal, regular tipper for good service. leaving without saying anything doesn't help.

If you know you're treating some of you customers differently than others, you should know why you're getting a bad tip, if not then you're delusional. I shouldn't have to tell you. I see you serving everyone else first, people in after me get everything before and you check on them multiple times, me only once, etc... Your job is to present yourself the best that you can and take care of the customers. If you can't do that without having attitude or bringing your issues and preconceptions to random people that have nothing to do with it, you're in the wrong job.
Just like phone receptionists, you better get that good voice on when you're with the next customer or you shoot yourself in the foot. It doesn't matter how bad the last customer was, the new one is not them.
I shouldn't have to tell anyone I'm a normal regular tipper, that should be assumed from the beginning for all customers. And if you don't get a good tip, instead of thinking "oh, those people must not tip well", do some self reflection and ask yourself what didn't you do. Sometimes you run across a bad-tipper, but it's probably something that happened.
Now that I think about it, maybe it isn't that blacks are consistently under-tipping, maybe wealthy whites are always OVER tipping, messing up the expectations. Like how some mention in the thread, tipping no matter what, even for bad service, etc... So s**tty servers are used to still getting good tips no matter how sucky they are. If someone is tight on cash they're not going to be generous with a tip for crappy service, you have to earn it. So maybe some of the more affluent people should stop throwing it around so generously for just average service. A good tip is for above average service, not just for showing up for work and doing the base job.

There is a customer notes box where you can put credits for messed up orders or miscellaneous information, this is normally where these types of comments would go. Customers should never see these notes in normal circumstances. There is also a notes box that prints out on the tickets for driver directions, like, use side door, etc. Those comments print out on the ticket, or receipt, our receipts were sticky thermal labels, one for each item and one goes to the driver. The customer can see those notes on their box. Getting to the point, they asked us not to write stupid s**t in the customer notes because apparently it would print them out when they sent out mailers for coupons. So customers were getting mailers with s**t like this written on it. It is not uncommon to see this type of comment in the customer notes. Usually not a racial slur, but the no tipping part was very common. These notes are normally not even necessary, I always remembered my good and bad tippers. Good tippers get their order first, even if it was the last placed and the farthest away. Bad tippers, well, you're lucky to get the right pizza.
