It sickens me that the so-called war on drugs has a budget over twice as big as NASA.
I also did not know that the US (and New Zealand) are the only countries that allow drug companies to advertise on TV. Leaving the country just got a whole lot more appealing if it means I'll never have to sit through another "Try our drug! Oh, and also listen to these 45 seconds of side effects and warnings" commercial ever again.

As a Canadian, I can testify that I know what commercials you are talking about because I HAVE seen them here.

come to Canada!!!

Having not realized this until now, I want to vomit.

A wise person once told me, if they are advertising a drug on TV, you probably don't need it.
Ever see ads for antibiotics?

Agreed if NASA had as much money as they waste on the war on drugs the space age would truly be the space age.

Big pharma also spends tons of money lobbying the FDA and medical associations to get new disorders officially recognized, often with vague criteria. Big pharma also pushes drugs for conditions that can be cured easily without drugs. Marketing antidepressants for premature ejaculation is a great example.

It says big pharma spends more money on marketing then it does on R&D, that's ridiculous. Apparently it's all about the profits and not about helping anyone other than greedy drug companies. The side effects are usually worse than the condition, stay away and don't trust them.

absolutely truth

There is not a war on drugs, there is a war on freedom, a war for your mind.
nitoriFeb 9, 2012
It is a real shame that congress is cutting back NASA to balance the budget when the real drain on the budget is the war on drugs.
If they legalized the stuff and then taxed it they just might solve many of their budget problems.
Not listed is the cost of keeping people in prison for non violent crimes and the lost productivity from these people who other wise would be paying in taxes.

Putting people in jail is big business and business booming

"We’ve all been hearing about the War on Drugs for 25 years now."
The War on Drugs is simply a War on our Freedoms... Just say No to the War on Weed... It's a plant...

What is Obama's stance on it?
Oh yeah, he wouldnt respond.
igorunchainedFeb 9, 2012
Obama has gone on record regarding his feelings on the war on drugs many times.

Seems to me that if we just secure our border at Mexico....oh wait, yeah that 'aint ever gonna happen. f**k it. Just nuke Mexico. Drug problem solved.
Better yet, legalize all of it - once and for all. People are gonna get access to, use and sell drugs - whether it's legal or not. The "war on drugs" is bulls**t. There 'aint no "war". Never has been. It's been more like the "heated argument on drugs".

Great infographic! I bookmarked this to use as persuasion prior to the vote this fall here in Washington to legalize weed.
Its time we end the war on drugs!
