It is definitely an interesting place to tour.
janincoJan 13, 2011
I wish I had known about this before I visited Seattle last year!
Oh well, now I have an excuse to go back.
anomaly100Jan 14, 2011
I ❤ Seattle. It's my favorite city in the States.
goweigusJan 14, 2011
I've never been more than 400 miles from Seattle, or away from it for longer than 2 weeks! And yet I've never seen the underground before, not even pics
dougchristianJan 14, 2011
Yay ignorance!
goweigusJan 14, 2011
I wouldn't consider that ignorance as I was aware that it existed I just hadn't seen it before.
cawpinJan 14, 2011
I would.
goweigusJan 14, 2011
So you guys are saying over 90% of everyone in the area of Seattle is ignorant?
dougchristianJan 14, 2011
You took the time to comment about not knowing anything about the topic of discussion despite living on top of it. And this was after you declared the extremely limited depth of your experience with exclamation.
It was more that exclamation point than anything else that makes it sound like you're celebrating your own ignorance. Sitting in one place your whole life is nothing to be proud of.
goweigusJan 14, 2011
I didn't use the exclamation point to express that I was proud of what I was saying. I knew what I was saying would seem silly/extraordinary/laughable so I used the exclamation point to show that I was having fun with the ridiculousness of what I was saying.
I still don't see how living in/around Seattle but not having seen the underground before is enough to label me ignorant because then you would also have to label the vast vast vast majority of people that ever spent any amount of time around Seattle. Especially considering that is a point of the article, Did you know about the underground?
Well yes I did, I was just letting people know that even people who have never strayed far from Seattle haven't even seen the underground.
AND there is a difference between saying I haven't SEEN the underground and not knowing anything about it.
bacwerdsmanJan 15, 2011
It's a f**kin tourist trap dude. Those of us born and raised here know all about it, and could care less. I was born and raised in Seattle... Its just a hole in the ground where they took a bunch of old crap, and set it up to make it look like nobody has touched a thing since it was abandoned. 90% of the stuff down there is planted/staged.
We don't tell tourists about the REAL cool s**t up here in the PNW.
sgtclydefr0gJan 15, 2011
I've lived here for about 20 years now and there are way better things to do then visit the space needle, or tour the underground seattle. those tourist activities are a waste of money anyways. last i heard, it was $18 to ride the elevator to the top of the needle!
I myself prefer the Red Hook Brewery tour. it's $1 and you get to sample all their beers. best dollar i ever spent.
mhuntJan 14, 2011
I found the tour a little underwhelming. I certainly wouldn't put it too high up on the list of things you need to see in Seattle. If you've already seen everything else the region has to offer, the tour is interesting. Those are nice pictures that show almost everything you'll see on the tour.
kaelyiestaJan 14, 2011
The real interesting parts are found in other entrances, mostly inaccessible to the public. Every so often you hear stories of some new opening uncovered by bums or kids. Most are probably nonsense, but I saw an art gallery of pictures of some sealed off areas. It was full of old beer cans and worse though.
banosdJan 14, 2011
These pictures pretty much capture the essence of the visuals but the verbal part of the tour is pretty interesting as well.

Did the tour when I was 8 and 38. Didn't change much in 30 years. Some of the jokes are funny, though. :)
Closed AccountJan 14, 2011
So, it's kinda like Underground Atlanta...
Hope it's more interesting, though.
bacwerdsmanJan 15, 2011
It's not.
(Born and raised Seattleite)
WWZJan 14, 2011
I hate these kinds of comments but here goes: Wow, that was really cool. I would love to take that tour. Reminds me of Old New York from Futurama.
themeditronJan 14, 2011
I have been on the tour 6 times and started sneaking away the last couple of times, they don't show you a lot of the really good stuff under there. Careful to not get locked in.
dibbkdJan 14, 2011
Looks like something out of Bioshock.
bootlessjamJan 14, 2011
I swear those walkway bits are straight out of Left 4 Dead 2.
slydeJan 14, 2011
Or the other way around, of course.
entroperJan 14, 2011
Exactly what I was thinking, it looks just like The Passing. Someone from their design team has clearly been down there. The brick archways, too.
mattfidJan 14, 2011
That was my reaction as well. Must have been used for reference by the designers.
bacwerdsmanJan 15, 2011
Considering Valve is right across the water from this tour... I'd say your probably right
telesophicJan 14, 2011
RIghteous.
ijwhelanJan 14, 2011
I took this tour about two years ago with my family. I honestly expected to see more than a few basements, but the tour guide was hilarious and I now get enjoyment from making fun of Tacoma. It's definitely one of those tours you go on for the s**ts and giggles, not historical value.
pppmktJan 14, 2011
The surface population is a deceptively weak dilution. Seattle really is buried under layers of Californians, tourists and transients. Of course it's underground.
Locals get the curb, natives get the reservation;
tourists get whatever Californians haven't taken.
flyfishnJan 14, 2011
Is Grunge in there?
sking363Jan 14, 2011
Underground city? Oh, i have never see before.
dildobagginsJan 14, 2011
Coolness, it's been 30 years, I'll have to go again.
deathguppieJan 14, 2011
There was actually a Scoobie Doo episode about underground Seattle. I remember being a kid and feeling confused, because they showed Seattle as a logger town with dirt roads, and I grew up here.. shows how people perceptions have changed over the years heh...
somedummyJan 14, 2011
Fake, I didn't see any CHUDs.
thread1Jan 14, 2011
This may be cool to look at.
diggsumJan 14, 2011
hmmm. a must see place.
gurdeepgolaJan 14, 2011
Some great pictures, have now added Seattle to places to go :)
n8ngrimmJan 14, 2011
This is sooo boring, why is this top in all topics?
ddarko789Jan 14, 2011
Your comment is sooo boring, why is this in the comment threads?
If you don't like a sub, ignore it and f**k off. No one cares if you think its boring, and saying so won't change people's minds to thinking so...
avianeddyJan 14, 2011
Looks like a nice place to take my class of easily-frightened young kids.
It is NOT creepy in the slightest!!
stephenariversJan 14, 2011
I love stuff like this.
unsigneddiggerJan 14, 2011
Seattle is the most over-rated city in the America.
divrekkuJan 14, 2011
I heartily disagree with you. The Puget Sound is one of the greatest places in the US.
btgossJan 14, 2011
Just like from Boneshaker.
keltickalJan 14, 2011
Pictures are not as creepy as the "Night Stalker" movie.

tomgfromcanadaJan 14, 2011
lots of citys have underground citys
OrlandoAlexJan 14, 2011
I did this tour in 2008 -- it was the best part of my visit to Seattle, and included a free drink (I chose a Long Island Iced Tea) at the end. Pictures are one thing, but clearly for how big tourism is, pictures can't replace the visceral experience of visiting a place. Especially a place as spooky cool as this.
mishkavshokeJan 14, 2011
a must see it..
Closed AccountJan 14, 2011
I was into this tour when it was still underground.
osirus482Jan 15, 2011
oh man...going there later this year. Will def be doing this!
ancientshoesJan 15, 2011
Dallas has a huge underground too that spreads throughout downtown. It's for the most part only open during business hours :(
demoman2k10Jan 15, 2011
Portland also has an Underground.. The Tours aren't as prominent as Seattle's and it's remains very much in it's DARK original state. You need to contact them ahead for a tour or KNOW someone that has a basement that has a connection into it.
