If I were religious I'd feel weird too, can you imagine being watched 24/7? Kinda creepy.
trythinking1stMay 20, 2011
Yeah, God likes to watch!!!
bookantMay 20, 2011
I propose a follow-up study: do religious *exhibitionists* feel more guilty than atheists, or in their case do they feel more turned-on?
assassyn360May 20, 2011
It's us atheists that religious people are having sex with.
travelingbikerMay 20, 2011
Guilt sucks
ghengiskhan1May 20, 2011
Guilt is such a waste of time and energy. I liberated myself from that burden a long time ago and I feel so much better.
inajeepMay 20, 2011
Why does this make me think of the Zappa song Catholic School girls?
badguy001May 20, 2011
Sex will always feel good, no matter what your belief is.
noidea107May 20, 2011
You mean people enjoy sex?
I AM SO f**kING SHOCKED
oregoncoastguyMay 20, 2011
Garbage! Been married since 1985, Christ-follower since 1982, and the sex is awesome! No guilt here.
trythinking1stMay 20, 2011
how much of that sex has been with your wife?
oregoncoastguyMay 20, 2011
Every bit of it
thorspowerMay 20, 2011
See that is because you are married. How about those who are not married and living in a life of sin? I think that is what this article is about.
davidnivenMay 20, 2011
I disagree. No one feels guilty about having sex within marriage.
It's the homosexuality, adultery, etc. that makes religious people feel guilty...and rightfully so.
Atheists are their own god and create their own morality, having seared their conscience and moral compass with their erotic desires and actions. They don't feel guilty anymore because they simply don't care...or don't want to care.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

"Both groups also reported watching pornography, masturbating, even pursuing affairs, at roughly the same rate. The main difference between the religious and the non-religious was that the devout felt guilty about it."

Don't expect him to reply rationally to this. Especially if he seriously thinks there is a separate morality for religious and non religious (ironically disproving objective morality imposed by christanity in his statement)
charlesdkraussMay 20, 2011
You're an idiot. Religious people are the ones trying to create their own morality. Everyone has an innate moral compass developed over hundreds of thousands of years of evolution.
I don't care to hear your response, I already know it'll be bulls**t.
noidea107May 20, 2011
If people had an innate moral compass s**t like this wouldn't happen.

Man is an evil, sick, f**ked up, animal and the only thing that makes you different from the romans watching people get torn apart by lions is society telling you it's wrong.
Nature doesn't give a f**k about people's feelings.
frayedknotjeffMay 20, 2011
The two largest religions in Africa are Christian, and Islam, both derived from the same base desert religion, Judaism. There is probably no other place on earth, where there is such a great number of superstitious people gathered together in one place like there is in Africa.
Man is evil? More like human + religious superstition = evil.
noidea107May 20, 2011
Right, as if you know anything about Christianity and Islam.
I've read the bible and the Quran. Even the most f**ked up s**t in both is only as horrible as people make it.
You think the west is some benevolent force? You think secular societies are without evil?
Russia has a 9% church attendance and yet it's the only place in the world that's had a proven case of child snuff porn.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2000/oct/01/ameliagentleman.philipwillan
How about we go check out the IMF which actively exploits third world countries.
How about how everytime you put gas in your car you fund dictatorships?
How about how your clothes are made in sweatshops?
Man is definitely evil.
Only an ignorant jackass blames religion for all human prejudice and insanity.
You want to pretend atheists aren't prone to the same bulls**t, fine. But I'm going to cal you out on it.

Funny thing, I skimmed that link you gave about the Quran, and it really DOES take almost everything out of context.
The quran has parts that are vague, but as a whole it says the same thing Malcolm X did.
"Be polite, be kind, respect the law, but if somebody raises his hand to you send him to the cemetery"
Muslims aren't supposed to start conflicts with anybody, just defend themselves. It repeats this over and over again.
Do yourself a favor and actually read the thing before you trust what is obviously a bulls**t source.
"All religions are f**king useless and not needed."
So says the man living a presumably happy, comfortable, life, in a prosperous nation.
Fact is, this attitude is just arrogant.
You might as well tell Dalai Lama to stop being a Buddhist and just eat Mcdonald's and f**k mindlessly like the rest of us.
After all, what he does is obviously completley unnecessary.
At least to you, which is my point.
As for the bible, generalizing the whole thing is stupid no matter what position you take.
But fact is, Christian theology is not guided by the old testament.
So keep that in mind.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

And Russia killed in the name of communism not Atheism, so maybe you should blame communism.
frayedknotjeffMay 20, 2011

noidea107May 20, 2011
Atheism is an integral part of Marxist-Leninist ideology.
Marx considered religion a means of control that needed to be eradicated for a communist society to take place.
If you want to ignore facts and pretend atheism has nothing to do with religious repression in communist states, I'm going to call you stupid.
I don't care who is doing it or why, persecution is persecution. And religious institutions and practitioners were and are persecuted in communist societies. And yes, state atheism has a lot to do with it. Not because of atheism itself but because it's ingrained in the ideology.
So let's cut the bulls**t and admit atheists aren't universally peace loving little angels, shall we?Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

"Right, as if you know anything about Christianity and Islam.

Murder, rape, and pillage at Jabesh-gilead (Judges 21:10-24 NLT)
So they sent twelve thousand warriors to Jabesh-gilead with orders to kill everyone there, including women and children. "This is what you are to do," they said. "Completely destroy all the males and every woman who is not a virgin." Among the residents of Jabesh-gilead they found four hundred young virgins who had never slept with a man, and they brought them to the camp at Shiloh in the land of Canaan.
More Murder Rape and Pillage (Deuteronomy 20:10-14)
As you approach a town to attack it, first offer its people terms for peace. If they accept your terms and open the gates to you, then all the people inside will serve you in forced labor. But if they refuse to make peace and prepare to fight, you must attack the town. When the LORD your God hands it over to you, kill every man in the town. But you may keep for yourselves all the women, children, livestock, and other plunder. You may enjoy the spoils of your enemies that the LORD your God has given you.
Laws of Rape (Deuteronomy 22:28-29 NLT)
If a man is caught in the act of raping a young woman who is not engaged, he must pay fifty pieces of silver to her father. Then he must marry the young woman because he violated her, and he will never be allowed to divorce her.
Kill People Who Don't Listen to Priests
Anyone arrogant enough to reject the verdict of the judge or of the priest who represents the LORD your God must be put to death. Such evil must be purged from Israel. (Deuteronomy 17:12 NLT)
Kill Witches
You should not let a sorceress live. (Exodus 22:17 NAB)
Kill Homosexuals
"If a man lies with a male as with a women, both of them shall be put to death for their abominable deed; they have forfeited their lives." (Leviticus 20:13 NAB)
Kill Fortunetellers
A man or a woman who acts as a medium or fortuneteller shall be put to death by stoning; they have no one but themselves to blame for their death. (Leviticus 20:27 NAB)
Death for Hitting Dad
Whoever strikes his father or mother shall be put to death. (Exodus 21:15 NAB)
Death for Cursing Parents
1) If one curses his father or mother, his lamp will go out at the coming of darkness. (Proverbs 20:20 NAB)
2) All who curse their father or mother must be put to death. They are guilty of a capital offense. (Leviticus 20:9 NLT)
And no, Jesus didn't make things any better:
But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me. -Jesus in Luke 19:27
For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. (Referring to the old testament.) -Jesus in Matthew 5:18
The Quran has the same f**ked up s**t in it. CLEARLY, religion is all good.... LMAO
noidea107May 20, 2011
Listen jackass, I don't feel like doing what you did and googling bible versus to fit my bias. I can tell you've never read the Quran either.
So I'm just going to lay this out for you simply.
THIS. s**t. IS. NOT. BLACK. AND. WHITE.
YOU. CAN. TAKE. IT. MANY. DIFFERENT. WAYS.
Did you get that?
Good.
At the end of the day religion is a reflection of people. Not the other way around.
Oh, and you forgot the whole "new covenant" thing also, dumbass.
Christians pay attention to Christ above all.
(In theory, anyway)
charlesdkraussMay 20, 2011
You're absolutely right, jackass, religious texts are vague enough that people can interpret them to mean whatever the hell they want them to mean.
Which is one reason why we have so many denominations/sects using the same religious text.
However, there are certain passages that could not possibly be taken out of context or interpreted any other way. [SEE ABOVE] (or at least they shouldn't be, but we know how dumb religious people can be.)
I don't give a s**t what religious people follow whether it's zeus, god, a purple unicorn, or the tooth fairy. All religions are f**king useless and not needed.
And FYI, I didn't use google:

That was the old testament.Jesus Christ gave us a new covenant. If you don't have faith, or believe in a higher power, that's your soul. If you don't think people have souls then when I am gone nothing matters.
charlesdkraussMay 20, 2011
The countries with the least amount of crime are also the countries with least amount of religious people.
The non-religious population of the U.S. is around 15-20% last I heard. That's how many millions of people that are not following your so called god, yet they are not murdering, raping, and stealing.
The majority of the U.S. prison population are Christians.
I have never, and will never say that ridding the world of religion will fix all of our problems, but it would be a great f**king start. Any of the good derived out of religion can be had without it. So religion is utterly and completely unnecessary for people to be good.
noidea107May 20, 2011
The majority of the prison population is Christian because the majority of the country is Christian you idiot.
Correlation does not f**king equal causation.
Didn't you learn this s**t in High School?
Do you want to know why "religious" countries have more violence? Because pretty much all of them are politically unstable and impoverished. And anybody with even an inkling of understanding about history, politics, and economics knows that isn't because of religion. It's because the west got a head start for hundreds of years by exploiting the f**k out of the rest of the world. The IMF and World Bank hurt the third world more then religion.
So do our MNCs and support of corrupt regimes.
And as I went over before, Russia is still a s**thole and it isn't religious.
Religious violence is only one aspect of broader problems. Always. It doesn't cause anything, it just gets caught up in it.
If we got rid of religion tomorrow the Taliban would still exist and the Palestinians would still hate the Israelis.
charlesdkraussMay 20, 2011
"Believe what you want, but anybody who says mankind was created by nature with a sense of right and wrong is full of s**t."
-Tell that to the scientific community and the evolutionary biologists that have studied more about humans in a year than you ever will in the rest of your life.
We know morality came through the process of evolution.
If mankind was going to slaughter itself to death it would have done it in the 200,000 plus years homosapiens were around before they created god and religion.
We lived in tribal societies before developing civilization. In those tribal societies we had to work together for the greater good of the group. Killing, raping, stealing, etc. from each other would have only meant that another group might take you when you were weak.
We DO NOT derive morality from religion.
noidea107May 20, 2011
Morality is a social construct.
If we arrived at "morality" through evolution, we would never have these problems to begin with.
This is common sense.
People were never in perfect harmony with each other. We've always been f**king assh**es other one another.
We are only empathetic if it's convenient.
If morality is ingrained in us, we are f**king great at turning it off at will.
People banded together out of necessity. But we still treated each other like s**t.
The fact that we started killing each other to begin with is proof.
If we had empathy in our nature we wouldn't act selfishly. But we do and always have.
The only reason you aren't cutting up albinos is because you were raised to believe it was wrong.
Your ancestors wouldn't have given s**t, most likely.
And I wasn't talking about religion, I was talking about society in general.
Fact is, people are always redefining what "morality" is.
goweigusMay 21, 2011
We are more a product of how we are raised and in what kind of culture/society than we have any kind of evolved morale compass on a biological level. That said you will definitely have great people coming from the worst batches, and the other way around as well.
I believe there is some truth to it, but most of it is how one is raised into adult hood.
frayedknotjeffMay 20, 2011
Forgive davidniven, davidnivens magical father, for he know not what he do. And he doesn't know your favorite color, your favorite food, your favorite animal, so on and so forth.
