In my opinion, there's nothing wrong with what she said. Whether the kid is gay or not, there should be no shame in thinking your son is gay. If it turns out she was wrong later and he is straight, I'm sure he will feel no shame being called gay as a child as obviously his mother has raised him without instilling homophobia in him so he won't care that she thought he was gay any more than a gay kid is upset their parents assumed they were straight till they grew up and told them differently.
alanocuNov 7, 2010
Boo hoo. Cry me a river. I'm gay and I don't appreciate you making me into a victim.
Gay folks like myself need to stand their ground and not cry like a whiny bitch. YOU ARE NOT A VICTIM. Shut the hell up and take it like a man.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Or a woman, whatever way you like it.
Disclaimer: I'm an awful person and couldn't help myself.
arschgaudiNov 7, 2010
I think her statement "My Son is Gay" was just a flip of the finger to those idiots who actually think her son dressing up as Daphne would "turn him gay".
Personally, I think it's awesome that mom let the kid be what he wanted. Worked for Dr. Frank-N-Furter.

Thankfully, there is help for exactly these situations:

What is the big deal? I'm gay.
But I would be embarrassed if my mother was making a big deal of this. The mother needs to shut up. Who the hell cares? Mom is making too much of this. Good lord, calm down honey.
People that cry because they think they're being mistreated because they're gay need to grow up. Who the hell cares? Face the fact that people are going to make fun of you for being gay. I've had rocks thrown at me. I've been punched in the face for being gay, but I don't dwell on the fact that there are idiots in this world.
Rise above it and walk away. Shut up mom and let your kid be who she is, gay or not.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

People are just too damn uptight.
Milton Berle (and to a lesser degree Robin Williams) made a s**tload of money dressing in drag.
hipmanNov 7, 2010
They're gay?.huh.
d4nie1Nov 7, 2010
God you're cold. Don't tell her to shut up. If people don't speak out against the bullying, punching, rock throwing, ect... then how will it ever stop? Just ignore it? That's your genius plan? If everyone just ignored it then nothing would ever change. Kids are not just crying over this - they can be traumatized to the point of committing suicide. People should not be afraid to speak out. All she did was make a post on her blog giving her point of view. That's hardly over the top.
alanocuNov 7, 2010
She needs to shut the hell up. I'm sick of my gay brothers and sisters whining like they are mistreated. Shut the f**k up. Go the f**k to Iran and try to be gay there. Idiots.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
d4nie1Nov 7, 2010
Yea I know there are worse countries to be gay in. Sorry but I'm not going to be satisfied with my country just being more tolerant than Iran. That's hardly a difficult standard to meet. Just telling me I should shut up and thank my lucky stars my society doesn't behead me ain't gonna cut it.
I'm not going to wax poetic with a violin about the plight of being gay in America, but there is a lot of stigma and prejudice that gays have to live with and kids get hit the worst by it. There's nothing wrong with speaking out against that and trying to make things better.
shwaavayNov 7, 2010
@d4nie1
There's also nothing wrong with trying to influence people not to choose to be gay, it's a VERY life complicating choice.
d4nie1Nov 8, 2010
@shwaavay
People don't choose to be gay. You may as well try to convince a brunette to be a blonde by preaching at them.
alanocuNov 7, 2010
For everyone that is digging me down - I'm going to accuse you of hating gay people. HOW DARE YOU! Hateful bitches digging me down? What the f**k. Shut up?
Just kidding.

I'm burying you and I'm a lesbian.
qazwsNov 7, 2010
I've seen so many girls crossdress as Peter Pan, Super mario, Link from legend of zelda, Stormtroopers, Final Fantasy, joker, Jack sparrow, edward scissorhands, halo, snake from metal gear.
socketassaultNov 7, 2010
But wait...
What if Zelda was a girl?
qazwsNov 7, 2010
Zelda is a girl. Link is male.
socketassaultNov 7, 2010
I can't decide if you got it or not. :/

SarahDriscNov 7, 2010
good article!
dwerfelmannNov 7, 2010
How many mothers assume their kids are straight and turn out to be wrong later on. Nothing wrong here. Actually, her support of her son is quite admirable.
hellobosNov 7, 2010
if her son wants to be a fag, let him be a fag
neotechniNov 7, 2010
We dont appreciate use of the f word.
arschgaudiNov 7, 2010
Whose "We"?
hellobosNov 7, 2010
i think he just called himself a fag
upeneffNov 7, 2010
Did anyone read the original. It was a shock title and meant nothing.
"My son is gay. / Or he’s not. I don’t care. He is still my son."
Why did everyone feel the need to write an article about the original post. Who needed to contact experts about a blog post.
mcqueenpkerNov 7, 2010
I didn't read the article, but I assumed that was the case. A title like "My Son Is Gay" is going to get a lot more attention that something called "Some Parents At My Son's School Called Him Gay." Fact of the matter is she was trying to make a point and wanted it to get some attention. A shocking title obviously did that, except some people saw the shock title and immediately thought the mom was out to bash her son on the internet (and probably didn't bother to read the actual article). I hate to say it, but our world is going backwards in terms of intellect.
wwjeffersondoNov 7, 2010
Well, that just blew the kids military plans. (no pun intended)
Thanks mom!
hipmanNov 7, 2010
pun?.
wwjeffersondoNov 7, 2010
Yes sir, a pun.
pun [puhn] noun, verb, punned, pun·ning. –noun 1. the humorous use of a word or phrase so as to emphasize or suggest its different meanings or applications, or the use of words that are alike or nearly alike in sound but different in meaning; a play on words.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

I'd find it just as bizarre if a parent confidently told me their 5 year old was a heterosexual. Also, every kid plays pretend; they rarely go on to act the same way as an adult. Take me for example. No longer can you find me stomping around in public like a tyrannosaurus.
somedrunkNov 7, 2010
I think you're lying about the dino thing.
jarysmNov 8, 2010
What? You aren't going to be there on Saturday? But I said I'd play the herbivore if you really wanted to be a T-rex!
chrisfujiiNov 7, 2010
As a mom she is supposed to protect her son, and that should mean not exposing him like this. If he wants to dress like this, whatever, let him do it. If she wants to talk about bullying in her blog, go ahead and do it. But don't post a picture of a 5 year old on the internet and make a big deal out of it. Maybe he will be ashamed of that someday, or maybe not, but he will think that his mother exposed him like that one day. Parents need to think where are the limits of privacy when publishing pictures of kids online.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Its a f**king costume you numbnut.
What if she shared the pic on Flickr?
melthornalNov 7, 2010
Oh what the f**k people. Seriously, you need to mind your own business and shut up. Who gives a f**k how he dressed up for halloween, who gives a f**k if she took a picture, and who gives a f**k that she used the word 'gay?' None of this means anything. For the love of f**k.
o76923Nov 7, 2010
Crossdressing, being gay, and being transsexual are completely unconnected concepts. It's good of the mom to want to stand up and defend her kid, but defend him from the right thing. Given that it's Halloween, he's probably none of the above.
littlejohn134Nov 7, 2010
I love the fact that over the smallest thing, parents will go to the ends of the earth to defend their kids!
gkiltzNov 7, 2010
It's HALLOWEEN for god's sake!!!!
One holiday when kids and adults can both have some FUN!!
She should never have to do this!!
kingorlowestNov 7, 2010
Wait, what "experts?"
Also, enough as been said about the nature of the title, which is clearly meant to draw attention. So I have nothing to say other than this mom is awesome. She's teaching her kid the right values regardless of his sexual orientation in the future.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
mogebierNov 7, 2010
He's only gay if she saw her son dressed as Daphne blowing a boy dressed as Fred.
killerhamNov 7, 2010
back in my day, that kid would have gotten beat up by the other kids... what a day we live in now
breadfredNov 7, 2010
Can you clarify what you mean? It sounds like you are agreeing with the kid being beat up - But I am sure that is not what you meant!
killerhamNov 7, 2010
nope its not what i meant
breadfredNov 7, 2010
Glad to hear it!
nick041Nov 7, 2010
Oh, what the f**k is happening in this country?! Seriously, what the f**k?
Closed AccountNov 8, 2010
He certainly looks happy in that picture. What's the problem?
return2workmomNov 8, 2010
it's halloween people. dress up, pretend, get candy. gay or not gay, is irrelevant. chill'ax already.
