So what? They obviously got fired because they weren't "hardworking" enough. Anyone who is smart and hardworking in America should find it easy to make $10 million a year. Vote R!
The BLS recently released its occupational projections through 2020. "30% of the projected job openings over the decade will require less than a high-school diploma, and 40%, only a high school diploma. Less than 20% will require a bachelor's or more. Almost three-quarters will require no more than brief on-the-job training, and 85% will require no previous relevant job experience." (Lisco Report)
You can argue over whether it's socialism or capitalism or whatever -ism you want, but this is where we have been headed for some time now. It didn't just suddenly happen. Much of the growth in personal income in the last few years has come from government transfer payments, not actual pay. Unless there is a complete reversal to what we've been doing the past few decades, the middle class will dwindle.
In other words we have to stop exporting work to slave labor and support the American middle class. The middle class buy things and create the demand promoting wealth. If everything is made overseas by s**t paid subsistence workers the money chain breaks.
One more bump and burp in this economy and you will see many businesses close. Stores, repair shops and more. I am one of them too!
Keep in mind now you are too big to fail but also YOU ARE TOO SMALL TO MATTER !!! they could have paid off every mortgage, school loan, credit card and the banks would have still gotten all the money. TWO BIRDS WITH ONE STONE at NO EXTRA COST but you were too small to matter or be considered.
Of course that would only have rewarded those who borrowed. Those who scrimped and saved and bought with cash, or who went through hell to pay off their loans - why they'd be the chumps who didn't get something for nothing.
It is not going to improve unless half of the population (Republicans) try to educate themselves so that they can kick out their current leaders and bring fresh minds in the party. GOP motto has consistently been - ignore the poor, squeeze the middle and pump up the job creators (a.k.a. filthy rich, arrogant and hater) to form an elite class.
Equivalency is even worse ... thinking that all arguments are equal .. justifies one side saying any old s**t...
Republican's use the natural conservative tendencies of fear and anger to blindly marshal their followers to vote against their own self interests...
Rational thought, putting forth a proposition and testing your hypothesis.. these are things both sides should do, but it seems less so of the Republican agenda.
I'd vote for any party that plowed major support into small and medium sized business. Empowering people to entrepreneurship is the way to go. They are local and in the community.
f**k the multinationals, they don't need your help ... yet that they are the real recipients of the Republican welfare state.
Wyoming (Cheney's home state, supposedly), Wisconsin (hello Gov. Walker -- there's a (re)call for you), and that bastion of low taxes, Texas all have higher property taxes than NJ, to name a few.
That's figured on percent of property value. Since property values in Texas are far lower than NJ, the *rate* can be higher. But the *amount* is far lower. Typical NY Times half-truth.
Here's a more honest way of looking at it:
"1. New Jersey
> Average Property Taxes as % of Median Income: 7.28% (The Most)
> Average Median Property Taxes Paid on Homes: $6,348 (The Most)"
"median" is too often conflated with "mean". This along with the term "average median" says the article was written by a real estate broker or investor and is basically bullhs**t. Using "median" without providing ANY other information, such as the frequency distribution of rates, is, to put it mildly, meaningless.
As for your contention that the values are lower in TX ergo the rates can be higher, this flies in the face of the notion that property taxes reflect property values and are commensurate therewith. In fact, if you look at the value received for those taxes, NJ is a bargain compared to TX. Those taxes fund basic services as well as education. In at least the latter regard, NJ has it ALL OVER Texas.
Too many labels - socialism, capitalism, middle class. All of which keep our country divided, in conflict, and, unfortunately, without any solutions. What I know for sure is that what we think about we talk about, and what we talk about we bring about. We have been in this economic mess since 2008 or 2009, and we're still talking about and planting seeds of doubt and fear. I am tired of hearing about the unemployed, the foreclosures, Wall Street, Main Street. It is time for us to move on and create a new dialog. To those who have been laid off (I'm one of you), those who are unemployed (I am also one of you), and those of you who may lose your home (of which I am also one of you), stop listening to the news. Stop looking for someone to blame, and instead see this as an opportunity to create a new prosperity consciousness for you and our country. Maybe this is our opportunity to pursue liberty, freedom and happiness -- to discover our true passions. Imagine waking up every morning to do something that you absolutely love to do. I know some of you may think this is mumbo jumbo, but I ask you this simple question: Why are you angry, fearful and unhappy? Our path to healing ourselves individually and this country is to find our joy, our happiness and ultimately our peace of mind.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
I think I have a clear understanding, and a possible solution to the problem.
Labeling or grouping isn't the problem.
Socialism, Capitalism, the Middle Class are important concepts and groups of affected people that everyone should understand, because the very definition of fairness, and how to come to real solutions can only come from understanding them, and working together in a healthy and knowledgeable way to implement them.
-Capitalism, and Socialism, are based on the concepts of Competition and Cooperation and understanding how they work, when applied in a healthy fashion, or corrupted / pushed to an extreme or left out of balance is vital to everyone's success, having a healthy society, and making sure it is fair for everyone. The Middle Class is very important, because it represents the balance of those who participate in the fairness and success of society. When the Middle Class is unsuccessful or unbalanced in society, it means that the society is unfair and unhealthy.
I agree that our country is distracted and divided. There is a clear reason why it happens, and why so much effort is spent to create this in the United States. The people who are successful, those who have Freedom from that distraction, and who have power, money, and influence, have a strong incentive to improve their position, and protect their own. and they will use things like politics, disagreement, distraction, competition, and disagreement to keep us divided.
-The solution comes from being aware of behavior and the incentives that keeps us distracted from making good decisions, coming together in the pursuit of finding better ways of doing things, and cooperating to our joint success. We have to set up laws, rules, and effective regulations that produce the measured result of checking and balancing greed, parasitical behavior, and destructive/counter productive behavior. We need to create a sound, and effective science of good decision making, that eliminates political distraction/and bias, measures results, using mathematics, logic, experimentation, and clear thinking to discover truth and fairness, and focus on creating a better system that improves over time.
We are too focused on what makes us different, and not what unites us. We talk about that, we think about that, and that is what we all focus on.
-I do know for sure that we talk too much about the wrong things. and waste our time thinking about our disagreements, and our distractions, and retreating into our own selfish world of freedom, instead of focusing on what we can agree on and accomplish together, the common goal of making things better for everyone, and learning how to get past instead of stuck on our disagreements.
The economic mess comes from the over-pursuit of competition, and Capitalism in the pursuit of Greed. The pursuit of success and the right to have the lion's share of the fruit of your labors is vital. Capitalism and competition are correct in that. But the extreme pursuit of deregulation, true freedom, and unbound success for the very separate few, is proof that Capitalism and Competition are unbalanced. When the success of the middle class, representing the majority of Americans, is obviously compromised, and the separate class of the privileged, obviously protected from that failure, are obvious receivers of that shifted value, then it is unbalanced and unfair. The American Dream, the right to pursue success, is fair when it does not tread on the right of others to pursue that success. We all deserve Freedom to the point where it does not deprive others. This is the unintended consequence of the pursuit to protect our own. Self interest becomes selfishness.
- We forget that we are are part of a society. We forget that cooperation, achieving common purpose with others, and working together, gives us the better benefits of society. Society was started and is based on the idea that we are better off together than individuals left alone. We multiply each others efforts by working together, we see more things, have more ideas, create more opportunities, and share more success together. We see each other's shortcomings, complement, and supplement each other, and catch the faults that an individual misses or cannot see by themselves. Cooperation goes hand in hand with fair competition, allowing us to pursue the fruit of our labors, while working together to extend that benefit and allow us to share in the collective pursuit of the fruit of our shared labors as well.
Effective and fair regulations, rules, and law (not political, or anti-competitive restrictions) is the healthy way to check that destructive and unfair and unbalanced behavior. It is the way to insure that cooperation and competition are in balance and contribute to the healthy success of individuals and society.
It is time to create a new dialog, and this a opportunity for a new societal collective consciousness of prosperity. We need to develop a sense of ourselves a group, a positive team. We need to have a healthy dialog at all levels, and between all groups. Diversity of perspective is a healthy thing. We can learn from each other. And we can come to correct decisions with each other, it may not be easy, but it is worth learning how.
- I disagree with 'stop listening to the news' or pursuing individualism to the point that we are all divided islands. We do need to pay attention. We do need to be clear and think clearly. We need to ignore those who inspire doubt, and fear for their own agenda. We do need to stop pursing individualism to the point where forget about others, we will become selfish and allow Greed to thrive. We need to listen carefully, and teach each other how to spot the truth. We are angry, fearful, and unhappy, because that is we focus on, and because we hear that from others. It is only by changing, and being aware of those who spread it, that we will be free of it; not by ignoring those things. It is not about blame, it is about holding people accountable and not blindly following rules that benefit others.
The road to fixing our problems comes through cooperation, and working together. We simply need to move past the wasted time of disagreeing, and focus on learning how to agree. We need to figure out how to talk with each other, and those who disagree, and how to find common ground together.
We need to talk to everyone as much as we can, to practice how to learn and to see the truth clearly. We need to speak up. We need to figure out the best way to grow. Unless we experiment correctly to see what works, and practice it, it will be hard for everyone to find the right answers. We must stand up and do the right thing.

Regulation is required to keep Corporations from poisoning us, enslaving us or our children or corrupting our government plus many other abuses. Taxation is also needed.
