You know what would make surgery better, cheaper, and cleaner? MORE GOVERNMENT. It's the answer to EVERY problem, isn't it?

What's even more frightening is the incidents of patients who are supposedly under anesthesia, but who are awake and aware for the entire procedure and can't move or do anything while some surgeon is working on them.
One patient told her doctor about just such an incident. When the doctor scoffed at the notion the patient then went into great detail about the lengthy conversation her doctor was having with another staff member.

Hey, keeping those instruments clean reduces corporate profits. Who cares if people get hurt?

Missed crucial procedures can also be the result of turnover. The turnover is sometimes caused by cost-cutting procedures that explicitly target the experienced staff, leaving only partially trained workers in their wake.
But on the other hand, even if things are done "by the book" if the book's proscribed procedures and approved machinery is not up to the job then you get a stream of failures too.
Electric dishwashers don't always get all the food off or leave residue of the soap itself.
Here's the quote that caught my eye and I half expected to see after just reading a little way into the article:
"...part of the problem is the increasing numbers of minimally invasive surgeries has spurred development of smaller, more complex instruments made from materials like tungsten, plastic and other polymers..."
Guess what that sounds a lot like?
A transvaginal ultrasonic probe.
It think a certain politician in Virginia and her colleagues should weigh the public health problem they could have escalated in their very own state while playing games with the constituency's health.

Disgusting. This could never happen on Grey's Anatomy.
