Never heard of the company.

You've never heard of Peugeot?
badqatAug 23, 2010
Uh, they actually used to sell Peugeots in the United States.
bossm4nAug 23, 2010
Yep, my neighbors had a Peugeot diesel when I was a teenager. That was one ugly mofo.
thellamafarmAug 24, 2010
Its cool the neckbeardian race require minimal travel due to the constant monitoring of server mainframes in arctic AC rooms.
rufiohoAug 23, 2010
Wait... isn't Diesel even worse for the environment than normal gas?
badqatAug 23, 2010
Not necessarily.

Dumbest name for a car...ever.
2010 3008 HYbrid 3
Seriously. WTF.
streetmagixAug 24, 2010
Actually, it's just 'Peugeot 3008 HYbrid 3'. We don't name cars by what year the come out. Must be an American thing.

...writes someone completely unfamiliar with submarine warfare.

I've wondered for a number of years now why diesel hasn't been reintroduced back into the American market in a big way. It has a higher energy density, is currently as clean or cleaner than gasoline per mile traveled, and diesel engines tend to be more reliable and durable as well.
Really, just about everything that was disliked about them has been overcome by improved tech at this point, whether you're talking noise, emissions, or how smoothly they ride.

Correct me if I wrong but aren't diesel engines more expensive to purchase and repair when they do need work?
jimmarch1Aug 24, 2010
Here's the other thing about Diesels: they like to run in a very narrow RPM range for peak efficiency. A gas engine might be happy from 2,000rpm to 6,000 whereas a Diesel of the same net power might be OK from 1,500 to maybe 3,000 tops and is "happiest" (best power to fuel ratio) between maybe 2,200 - 2,400.
So they make kickass generators. You run them just when needed in their "special happy place" and they give back superb efficiency. This is also why big road tractors run as many as 18 gears, so the poor driver can row it right on it's "sweet spot".
As the generator in a hybrid car, a little 2-cylinder diesel would work great.
streetmagixAug 24, 2010
Thats a new one on me, I was driving a Fiat Punto Diesel the other week and it would happily rev to 6000 RPM.
mojo8472Aug 25, 2010
It may rev to 6000, but any 'power' is long gone by then. My diesel Peugeot is great from 2000-3500, but the torque dramatically drops off after that.
