No more Landcruisers in North Tehran???? I think this is gonna bring Iran to its knees....

"Relevance, people. Relevance."
So you believe all the nonsense about nuclear ambitions? I remind you, the wmd story was a lie the last time, why would you think the *same* people are telling the *same* story only now it's true? You're a sucker, a true American sucker.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Regardless of your nationality, Crazed, you're an assh**e, a true blue assh**e.

Poor Leper, it must be so lonely being locked up in your basement with nothing but a Internet connection and a tinfoil hat for company.
sealbeaterAug 11, 2010
You can insult him but he's right. Iran has done nothing wrong and the American people are suckers.
sealbeaterAug 11, 2010
Yes, yes, digg it down, but you can't debate it.
gigglestickAug 11, 2010
@sealbeater
Neda Agha-Soltan would disagree with you, if she was alive.

Oh that's so clever, a martyr for democray fed to you by the US media. How about the over a million children who die every year due to US sactions?

And that's just for Iraq. Like I said, the American people are suckers.

Thank you @sealbeater. I've said the same things many times. People bring insults instead of evidence and still, somehow, walk away feeling vindicated.

How do you know about north Tehran? I'm amazed! Are you iranian?
diggplugAug 11, 2010
Good for Toyota! Hyundai & Kia are the largest exporters of cars to the Islamic Regime in Iran. Mazda & Nissan cars & trucks are still assembled & manufactured there.
docholiday22Aug 11, 2010
The government in Iran imposes religion on its people; not the other way round.
In India, the people impose caste and creed on the government and their own people.

jsmith39Aug 11, 2010
I know right.. corporations selling s**t, didn't see that coming.

crea8iveartAug 11, 2010
If Iran will not buy from Toyota then maybe nobody should buy from Toyota.
sgerwel1985Aug 11, 2010
This article just really went right over your head, didn't it?
djaynessAug 11, 2010
Well their net exports were 222 in 2009 so yeah, Toyota just wants out regardless.
vitriolandangstAug 11, 2010
I think that since Toyota is boycotting a non-sale, it's going over EVERYONE"s heads.
Closed AccountAug 11, 2010
Wow! Really a ballsy move by Toyota! This could influence other companies to shut down trade with Iran and make them squirm a little more than the gutless moves of world governments. Now, if they could only get their cars to stop, they'd be in good!Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Toyota hit the brakes.
shmike9Aug 11, 2010
Haha, nice.
silentjAug 11, 2010
So, they're going to unintentionally accelerate exports to Iran??
gefahrAug 11, 2010
Better than accelerating their nuke program.
shmike9Aug 11, 2010
Why don't they continue to ship over the cars with accelerator problems?
mackdiesel2010Aug 11, 2010
Why bother killing the Iranian people with faulty cars. Let's just nuke them.
/s
david90mAug 11, 2010
Because innocent people would die.
mackdiesel2010Aug 11, 2010
I take it you're referring to continuing to ship faulty cars
alphalionAug 11, 2010
If only Iran had the mental capacity to cooperate with the nuclear watchdog... But nooooo, our ego is way too BIG!
pkonAug 11, 2010
"The automaker’s move will have no discernible impact on the automaker’s production or profit schedules, however, as the entire country of Iran only received 222 Toyota vehicles in all of 2009"
Ehhh, I know that that they are trying to follow sanctions and sound like a "good-minded" corporation but if Iran only received 222 vehicles it's not like they are losing out on millions/billions of profit... I think the story would be a lot different if Toyota was shipping millions of vehicles to Iran each year.
hipmanAug 11, 2010
Wait, so....where are they getting most of their cars from?.
wpyhAug 11, 2010
Maybe they drive their own nuclear cars?
fordsvt1Aug 11, 2010
Companies other than Toyota I'd imagine. There are some, you know...
absurdparadoxAug 11, 2010

sapo916Aug 11, 2010
eh, they will still get the used ones.
jspegeleAug 11, 2010
I could be wrong, but I don't think the Iranian army gets much use out of the Hilux, and the according to the article, the Land Cruiser is the most popular Toyota in Iran. The Hilux is big in 3rd world countries.

Closed AccountAug 11, 2010
The rednecks in the US have been saying that for years.
vitriolandangstAug 11, 2010
Well, we buy gasoline from Terrorists like BP. Or is a corporation scaring me NOT a terrorist? I mean I'm like 100 times more likely to die from something they've done than even that Bin Laden fella the CIA trained. And we bombed a place where like a few of them were hiding in Afghanistan while about ten times that are still training in Florida. Oh well.
But if a country that never attacked me and is no threat is called a terrorist,... it's so confusing. I guess I'll make all my decisions on what exactly a terrorist is by a man in a suite who tells me on a TV station owned by a corporation that makes most of it's money on weapons sales tells me.
That right there is Patriotism!
/sarcastic stupidity on display.

I've heard that toyota is great at desert like weather. for example in center of iran (Kavir) people you will see more toyota than the other parts.
roya11288Aug 11, 2010
being iranian, ive been to iran. the only car there is the one they make its called a pecan. so yea... kick rocks toyota.
vitriolandangstAug 11, 2010
Yes, but at least now they OFFICIALLY don't sell to Iran.
While of course, we only stopped selling them airplanes in 2007, and probably STILL sell them weapons.
The average American will be impressed with the "Patriotism" while not exactly sure where they will get a job in 10 years.
It has to be frustrating hearing that your country is a threat when they've never attacked anyone. The justification is "Hammas" or "Hezbullah" or "the Taliban" when nobody really knows what those things are.
Personally, I figure Hamas and the Likud party are ways to scare the other sides populations into voting in authoritarian war-mongers. But since most in this country don't know that Iran is a Democracy (well, as much as OUR country pretends to be a Democracy), such points are kind of lost in the fog.
roya11288Aug 11, 2010
iran is actually not a democracy, its an islamic republic. and i agree its retarded to hear that they are a threat when none of these organizations are in iran. mostly cuz those organizations are comprised of arabs and persians and arabs dont get along.
gefahrAug 11, 2010
the videos of the military beating and shooting their own people in public doesn't exactly help their case, if the other accusations (with regards to weaponizing their nuclear program) are otherwise false.
ahhellAug 11, 2010
I love the PR spin. What most likely happened is that Toyota would get massive fines if they continued to deal with Iran.
joemanmanAug 11, 2010
Wow, how rare is it a company does something bad ass like this? The PR of being patriotic isn't found too often for these big companies, and it's good to see once in a while.
Toyota, you're ok in my book.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
vitriolandangstAug 11, 2010
LOL.
"Patriotic?" You buy a Toyota car and enrich another nation. OK, they are assembled now in the USA. But really -- how is their ANY patriotism when it's about trade and profits.
What are YOU going to get out of this show? Who told you Iran is an enemy? Some commercials on a News Channel or the News Program paid for by commercials?
Maybe Toyota is going to get into the lucrative weapons business -- you and I don't know WHY anything gets done and whether Iran is an enemy or just a shadow puppet.
joemanmanAug 11, 2010
Easy tiger - I didn't say anything about some shadow puppet conspiracy theories or accusing Iran of anything. I'm getting as much out of it as you are replying to my comment, but that's not the point. I just think it's rare a company goes out of its way to fist bump the government, legitimate reasons or not.
taxmoreAug 11, 2010
This sure is a free market where companies bow down to the governments flavor of the month political battles to ensure favors and/or bailouts down the road.
docholiday22Aug 11, 2010
The current regime in Iran states that they are an Islamic nation yet very few people in Iran subscribe to any sort of religion.

Translation: "Dear US government and influencers in the judicial system, please go easy on us when it comes to fines and punitive damages in our umpteen product recalls."
azwethinkweizmAug 11, 2010
Why? All they want to do is to have vehicles that transport their citizens rather than using mass transportation that will cost them millions or billions of Iranian dollars.
This is just another example of keeping a brother down.
timthetaxmanAug 11, 2010
Most sanctions are a joke. What will happen is that another company (even sometimes a subsidiary) will buy the cars from Toyota and ship the cars to Iran.
All sanctions do is add a middleman with fewer scruples.
solkreAug 11, 2010
At the same time Russia and China resume gasoline sales to Iran.
I don't know if this really hurts the Iranian government, or just the Iranian people.
vitriolandangstAug 11, 2010
The Iranian and American PEOPLE have always been the target.
The COUNTRIES governments are run by business interests in the "developed world" and these countries pretend to be at odds with one another -- while all the individuals are compromised or owned.
There are pretend wars to keep people separated and threatened while the elite keep us down. It's really simple; war has always been and always will be a racket.
crgnetworksAug 11, 2010
Am i the only one who see all these sanctions are just another f**king ploy to invade Iran? Make up some excuse (like we did with Iraq) just so we can invade for our own gain. Jesus Christ America, leave the f**king world alone! I'm sick of our constant bullying.
vitriolandangstAug 11, 2010
Iran probably will go with the Ford Focus and Hyundai then.
Toyota would NEVER sell to a country with Nuclear weapons -- like the Saudis, Israelis, China, India, USA, Russia, Pakistan,...
...oh wait, Iran never SIGNED a non-proliferation pact. So it's basically just a DEMAND from the USA without even bothering with treaties and law.
Whatever. This is just more nonsense while we pretend this isn't about forcing Iran to capitulate to big business. If they play ball like the UAE, they too can get nukes -- as long as we keep scaring everyone into the hands of the Mullahs and away from Democracy.
>> Prediction: Iran won't be invaded as long as they don't become Democratic and let China have their oil cheap.
vitriolandangstAug 11, 2010
Toyota will officially stop selling to any nation that they aren't selling to if it sounds good. THERE, put your foot down Toyota! Freedom isn't free -- it's $27,000 plus Tax, Tag and Title.
I'm sure if it made good PR, then Iran would stop selling turbans to Japan -- I mean, Toyota would stop selling Jaguars to South Africa.
Oh, Ford makes Jaguars now? Never mind...
fordsvt1Aug 11, 2010
Jaguar is owned by Tata, an India company.
oldslapantickleAug 11, 2010
How is Iran going to maintain their tank battalion then? Whats next? Boston Whaler stops sending ships and their whole destroyer fleer is finished.
quopAug 11, 2010
In other news, there has been a large increase of Toyota shipments to Syria, which are latter shipped by third parties to Iran.
mitikomonAug 11, 2010
why Syria? why not Dubai?
Beep111Aug 11, 2010
Won't change a thing. There are plenty of places Iran can get vehicles from. If anything it will increase their independence from the west while simultaneously improving relations with their neighbors. I'm sure China would be eager to supply.
Beep111Aug 11, 2010
Downvote me if you want, but if the Iranians are importing less than 300 cars last year, somehow I don't think they care too much. Like I said, China will probably pick up the slack.
seenbymanyAug 11, 2010
FTA: "As Iran continues to move forward developing nuclear technology believed to be intended for military use by the United States and the United Nations"
...cuz they've never been wrong about that kind of thing before right??
frccAug 11, 2010
The language, sanctions and national attitude towards Iraq was exactly the same before the war. The mind controlled mass must really like the story to believe it twice.
goodthinkinAug 11, 2010
I like it. I know it wont make much of a difference but just think if the average American reads that Toyota is standing with us on the Iranian sanctions and thinks "Hmmmm, I wonder who else is willing to put their money where their mouth is and stand with us?" It could be the start of a public awareness/ground-level movement kinda like the "buy american" movement that got really big in the late eighties. Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
quaxonAug 11, 2010
You say that as if buying into US propaganda for a second time to invade a third country that never did anything to us is a good thing.
All the idiots who believe Iran is pursuing a nuclear weapon should watch this
http://republicbroadcasting.org/?p=10109
drholidayAug 11, 2010
Actually Iran makes two cars of its own (IKCO Soren and IKCO Samand) - the Paykan you mentioned was stopped several years ago.
It also makes a ton of others cars, but they're designed by other manufacturers (Peugeot 206, numerous Citroen models)
shutthefrntdoorAug 11, 2010
Which is funny because everytime the news would show footage of terrorists in the region they were all in Toyota trucks.
quaxonAug 11, 2010
Really? i'd love to see footage of terrorists in Iran, please cite your claims.
shutthefrntdoorAug 11, 2010
in the region troll. They wouldn't be in Iran, they moved into Iraq.
aetasxAug 11, 2010
This is just a big PR stunt. If they're only selling 222 cars a year over there, they can make this play without it actually having to affect their bottom-line. This is like a lactose-intolerant person telling everyone they're giving up milk.
bracomadarAug 11, 2010
I'm not going to say what the government of Iran is doing to its people is good. I think it's horrible and I think people should be working to stop them abusing people's rights. However, the countries who trade together, stay together. Has not trading with Cuba, or North Korea brought them closer to us? Hell no! If we really want to spread freedom, threatening other countries with war and being stingy with our goods isn't the way to turn an enemy into a friend. If you do not like wars, then you should love trade since countries who are economically dependent on one another are much less likely to go to war with each other.
If we were to flood Iran with all the technological goodies we have and presented them a market so they could sell their goods to us, we could provide more jobs for Americans by allowing them to buy our stuff and we would provide jobs for them because we could buy their stuff. People who are working and make money are going to be a lot happier than a bunch of unemployed people. Oppressive dictators, radical religions, and destructive political ideologies develop in poverty and violence. We shouldn't be forcing Iran back, further into poverty and violence, but doing everything we can to help lift it out of it.
So how does this stop Ahmadinejad and other people keeping Iran oppressed? It takes away any talking points he might have. It drains him of reasons to be around. Right now America looks like the evil one because we're threatening to bomb them. We look greedy for not wanting to trade with them. How about instead of threatening to drop bombs on Iran's people if their government doesn't help protect their people (yup, that's our current logic), we threaten to drop food, medicine, and maybe even free iPods? It would probably cost less than dropping bombs and it would certainly make us look a lot better to the Iranian people than Ahmadinejad. If I were in Iran, I'd be much happier to see a 500 pound crate of food and iPods land in front of my house than a 500 pound bomb.
Closed AccountAug 11, 2010
Pray tell -- how is refusing to trade with violent barbarians "greedy"?
quaxonAug 11, 2010
ultra lol @ Violent barbarians. pray tell, how are they even remotely as violent as the US or even 90% of the coubtries we trade with. Last I checked Iran hasnt invade another country in over a century, much less have the blood of millions of civilians on their hand like the US. You sound like a completely brainwashed idiot.
http://academic.evergreen.edu/g/grossmaz/interventions.html
Closed AccountAug 11, 2010
Ohhh, so sponsoring global terrorism and waging proxy wars isn't "starting wars". You're the brainwashed idiot mate.
bracomadarAug 12, 2010
Well, if you and your neighbors were in poverty and lived under an oppressive government, and some other country kept telling you that they were too good to trade with the likes of you, you might get the impression they were greedy and didn't give a s**t about you. I don't give a f**k about the Iranian government, but a government doesn't make up the people of a country, especially in countries where they rig elections constantly. While know there are some religious extremists in Iran, not everyone over there wants to kill Americans and live under strict Islamic law. Just like over here, we have crazy religious nuts that want to oppress freedoms. Some Americans want to go wage war with all kinds of different countries and kill people to spread their twisted version of democracy, but the majority of Americans, the majority of Iranians, and the majority of the human race just want to live and let live. Those are the people I want to trade with. The violent barbarians in the world want war, they don't want trade, they're greedy, they want to be isolationists, and they want poor citizens that are dependent on them for everything. We are currently giving those barbarians exactly what they want and denying the peaceful people what they want.
baja01Aug 11, 2010
Sanctions do nothing but make the problem worse.
The people of Iran would be great friends with the people of the west. Stopping them from enjoying many of the things we do in the west just forces them inward, making them less reliant on the west and less likely to become allies.
I never understood the concept of "We want you to be like us, and to do that we are going to take away every reason you have to become like us."
megadan76Aug 11, 2010
No more Technicals for you!
sshrpAug 12, 2010
More of Toyota trying to repair its image in America. I'm sure the Iranian market was such a huge sacrifice for them. If they supported America they wouldn't have allowed their customers here to be wrongly imprisoned and killed over a defect they knew existed and lied about.
spatialtimeAug 12, 2010
Iran introduces HUGE taxes for 'foreign' cars like toyota, which explains why not so many cars are sold there. They do that to promote their own made cars. Therefore I think they even like that sanction.
