That Razer Vespula is the only one I would even consider using, I own a Razer Destructor and it is a great mouse surface for work, and play.

So I am not a man who was has four fingers on each hand? Fifth finger on left hand was tiny, unusable, and removed. Right hand didn't even have one. Both came with no thumbs. :(

Mouse pads? Who the f**k uses mouse pads? Silicone spray and a desk area does a much better job. No need to confine yourself to a small patch.
BTW, Apple lost all claim to "geek" a long time ago.

I know they were needed for ball mice but for modern ones they just get in the way.

Most mousepads I see are targeted at hardcore gamers. A load of crap on better traction.
We all know how hardcore gamers love any gadget that makes their computer and accessories make them seem like pros.

Mousepad are still good to have optical or otherwise, if you want to save the surface of your table (wooden or otherwise) and especially save the feet of the mouse. I don't use one at work but I use one at home, different surfaces.

Yeah for some mice/desk combinations, the mousepad is just a better choice than lack of. Personally, I use a Microsoft "bluetrack" mouse that works on *literally* any service I have tried. Glass, concrete, marble, carpet, *anything*. Logitech has a similar technology called "darkfield". I think mousepads will eventually go the way of Firewire; used by a few dedicated professionals (or wannabes), but the general populace just won't have the need.
