Drone is a pretty nasty drug, saw a big vouge in my age group recently; it's a bit like dirty MDMA, you get MDMA effects (confidence, happier etc) but with a really horrible comedown

Salvia Divinorum. If it's still legal where you are, go get this stuff. Tastes like bad fish food and you'll struggle to hold a hoot because of the taste but you'll be "weird" in no time. I've seen 4 different people do it and they've all had 4 different reactions:
1. Total lack of perspective. Objects seem close enough to grab end up being quite out of reach. Your legs feel 1 foot tall. Walking is strange for lack of a better term.
2. Hallucinatory coma (best way to describe it). You sit still trapped in a hallucination for 1-2 minutes. It feels like hours. Indescribable - I've heard "Space did it's thing" and "I went to the moon" as their BEST way to describe it.
3. Walls "bounce". You move forward, they move away, you come back, they move forward.
4. Hysterical, unstoppable laughter.
It's just a herb, a sage I believe. 100% natural. Comes in extracts - get the middle one, whatever they have.

the best way i can describe it is, you feel like you are standing in front of a bus that is about to hit you, and it lasts for like two minutes but feels as if hours..

With all drugs being legal, the need for synthetics would decline. The number one reason for designer drugs is that they can be legal until they are scheduled.
Pot, alcohol, cocaine, opiates and LSD would be most of the drugs people would need. With legalization we will actually find metered doses which would be much better for the users. We may even find that crack and heroin may be replaced with easier to take versions with a more modest kick.
Alcohol is legal, yet everybody doesn't run out to find Everclear and drink themselves into a stupor. The most common forms are still wine and beer. Some distilled liquor is used in mixed drinks, but it is clear that the average person does not gravitate to the most powerful and devastating version of a drug. Illegal drugs lead to more concentrated versions to aid the transport and concealment which would not be an issue with legalization.
One last note, legalization doesn't mean endorsement.

Sometimes I catch a bit of Intervention while my family watches it. It always comes to mind that its unfortunate weed wasn't legal so that these people could have gotten their kicks from something so harmless and actually good for you.

I'm not a drug user by any stretch of the imagination (my "hardest" drug is caffeine) but I know of a website that has lots of information about any sort of mind-altering substance and the best ways to use them with minimal side affects. Maybe snorting lines of this stuff for 13 hours straight isn't the best way to use it. Maybe it's one of those things where you do a single hit/use/whatever and let it wear off. If it's indeed new and people are into it, I would guess you need to experiment with the dosages.
To each their own, but I'm not a fan.

Like many stimulants (cocaine, crack, meth, etc.) the desire to continue dosing is compulsory. It is unlikely that he was consciously deciding to take more, yet the compulsion can be very strong with this class of drug.

If you can't read an insanely detailed write-up for it on Erowid, don't do it.
Some basic guidelines for drugs:
1. If it's physically addictive, don't take it. It's not worth it, there are many substances that aren't physically addictive.
2. Research first. Never take anything on a whim or during a moment of social weakness with friends. If you don't know what it is, you shouldn't subject your consciousness to it.
3. Moderation. Drugs should not be seen as events themselves but instead expectations should be that the substance is to act as a supplement to an activity already decided upon (Unless the effects of the drug are the activity -- psychedelics).

"drug" is a very general term. People drink coffe or drink those are drugs too.
And there is no harm in doing weed if you are a grown up.
Saying things like doing any drug is stupid is very close minded.
