It's quiet in here... can you hear the echo?

How can you hear an echo if there is no noise?

Holy crap...thats awesome

Yet it still can't corner.
zenith251Aug 14, 2010
"But it's not all engine, the car also gets an upgraded clutch and short throw shifter, retuned electronic steering, traction control and stability control. The suspension sees some nice attention, too, as there are stiffer springs all around, larger diameter anti-roll bars and Ford's installed manually adjustable dampers with five different stiffness settings. Grab a screwdriver and you can change the damping from each shock tower... There's also an optional Torsen torque-sensing limited-slip differential.... Going and turning are great, but they need backup. Sorta like 14-inch four piston Brembo's all around behind lightweight 19" racing wheels wearing Pirelli PZero 9" rubber up front and 9.5" in the back.... Inside there's a suede-wrapped steering wheel, cue-ball shifter, dark-painted dash, optional Recaro buckets — they even stripped out 11 lbs of sound deadening to not only make it lighter, but louder." ~ Jalopnik.
Combine those improvements with the 2011 Mustang GT's current cornering grip, "0.94 g (avg)" ~C&D....so you're an idiot.

"You're the one defending a car that bares more relation to a horseless carriage than anything from this century."
That may be the most idiotic post thus far.
Zeniths numbers and articles prove his point that you were wrong in your claim that the Mustang can't corner well. And your response proves you are just a trolling ass who doesn't know f**kall about the subject.
brucealmightyAug 14, 2010
Yup...that's one very bad boy automobile. I'd love to drive it sometime....but sadly I also know that 99% of the time all that muscle would actually amount to little more than a pleasing exhaust sound or a very expensive speeding ticket. sigh...
yeomandroidNov 13, 2010
Yeah, they just bumped it to 444 horsepower and now offer a trackey where you use this key to turn the car into a veritable race car. How crazy is that? The HP and torque rating is apparently "secret" so you know it must be pumping out at least 480 hp and some 420 lbs of torque in race mode.

It's also worth looking at the amount of Torque that Ford's engines get with their direct injection systems. The only thing crazier is that they get decent millage as well.

There was a time when US car companies didn't have to crib off 40 year old designs.
getoffmybridgeAug 14, 2010
Yeah, cause it's totally carburated and running leaded gas. Or yeah, they'd pretty much perfected efi and self tuning wideband o2 systems back in the late 60s. Yeah, high horsepower, low emission all aluminum v8s were huge back then.
zenith251Aug 14, 2010
Put a different name on this and it's no longer a "40 year old design." Your argument is invalid.

Dude I would buy so many groceries with that car.
sweetdaddydAug 14, 2010
Would be perfectly fine. I daily drive my my Lotus Elise and use it to get groceries all the time. I just fill up the passenger seat and floorboard. Fine for a single guy.
surkitAug 13, 2010
So sweet, but I'm looking forward to the return of the 427 engine.
tnoyAug 14, 2010
Why? What would be the point in having a modern 427 engine other than it saying '427' on the car? The old 427 is a dead engine technology, there is zero reason to return to it.
Its like saying the 2011 V8 is the 'return' of the 5L. The only thing similar is that its probably going to say 5.0 on the car.

bring back the mustang 2

I would like to try one for a week.. I have some history driving mustangs and well I've not been too impressed.
I use to own an older mustang GT that car was a horrible thing.
it would not turn.. (it under steered like a boat.) it cost me $1200.00 in suspension upgrades to make the car drivable.
it was a loud on the inside.. The body boom drove me crazy. Even after adding $500.00 in sound deading, it fixed nothing.
The mustang gt power plant was way under powered for a car as heavy as the mustang.
The standard brake system was way too small for a car that heavy.. brake fade almost got me killed.
The standard ford real locker sucks.. it used paper clutches.. they burned out in 10,000 miles.
The adjustable steering wheel had notched settings... none of them worked for my height.
The ABS system was horrible. Backing the car at speed resulted no braking!!!!.
Transmission failure at 35000 miles
The oem tires Good year TA's sucked. Low profile tires that sounded like you had rock wheels
No traction to speak of when pressed into a tight turn. replaced with R firestones at $1200.00
for a set of 4.
Now down to the nits...
Bose sound system sucked.
The fit and finish on the car sucked, snapped and stripped screws all over the car.
plastic trim pieces that just didn't fit.
Good parts (well the engine sounded good when running)
Over all the worse new car I ever owned.

I agree, Ford sucks. Quantity is job #1!
firesightsAug 14, 2010
My dad owned a Shelby GT500. It was an amazing car.
When you can go back to 1968 and find car that would still be fast on a track by today's standards, it will be the first one.
goalieguy314Aug 14, 2010
I don't know why you're getting buried, older mustangs were not good (besides the originals, which were good in their own way).
mdoverkillAug 13, 2010
Ford has been on a roll lately. According to autoblog they were using the BMW M3 as a bench mark for this car.
"Ford engineers even reportedly benchmarked the BMW M3 when developing the Boss 302, aiming to beat the famous Bavarian coupe around Laguna Seca, which they claim to have achieved. "
http://www.autoblog.com/2010/08/13/ford-mustang-boss-302-is-back-for-2012/
partrowAug 14, 2010
Benchmark in what way???
Size?
cawpinAug 14, 2010
No, they're both midsize cars.
goatmonkey2112Aug 14, 2010
They timed it around the track. The time was the benchmark.
jayv2010Aug 14, 2010
I Know the feeling, I have never been a ford fan, but just got the new SHO and can't say enough good things about it.
Welcome back Ford
darkshroudAug 14, 2010

Wow a 5.0L is so 1989.
darkshroudAug 14, 2010
With the fuel efficiency that Ford's engines now get there isn't much of a reason beyond cost or young drivers not to get one.
zenith251Aug 14, 2010
And what would you have instead of a 5.0L? How many other companies are putting out engines 5.0L or larger? All American, and most German companies. Are you retarded?
freshpowAug 13, 2010
This is a real Boss 302:
http://www.mustangdreams.com/Boss-302-Mustang.jpg
That one can't touch the real thing
random12345Aug 13, 2010
Correction - that is the original Boss 302. This is going to be "a real Boss 302", just not the original.
somejunkAug 13, 2010
"can't touch"?
The new one is safer, more efficient, much more durable, much easier to live with, more comfortable, and is faster in every way imaginable.
I guess the old one has.... nostalgic value?
tnoyAug 14, 2010
In what way is the original better?
bloodwineAug 14, 2010
it looks better than the new one. I know looks are subjective, though.
another thing is the original is easier and cheaper to maintain.
the original will hold its value better. I could be mistaken about that, but I haven't seen many modern cars stand up to the test of time. I guess we'll see in 30 years.
challengr74Aug 13, 2010

I've driven the new camaro. If you are a camaro/firebird guy, I'm sure its great, but unlike the Mustang, its cramped, has poor visibility and the cheap interior will keep most people way.

I've never been much of a Mustang fan (and for the last 15 years or so not that much of an American car fan) but I gotta admit, that's a sharp looking car. (I drive a Lotus Elise if that says anything about my taste in cars)
anixmanderAug 14, 2010
Im a Mustang guy myself, but I have to say that the Lotus is one hell of a sweet looking car.
You obviously do have great taste in cars SweetD.

Thread over on the Mustang Source:
http://forums.themustangsource.com/f765/boss-back-2012-boss-302-a-486460/
Good summary of the changes, links to the PDFs of the specifications and a brochure-ish thing.
My take:
1) Boss suspension/powertrain looks awesome. Pretty much exactly what I want from the Boss.
2) No Shaker hood option? Booo
3) Limited production booooo to dealer markups
Overall, still pretty excited though :) The '70 Boss 302 is one of my all-time favourite cars, and I'm looking forward to seeing this one can do.
deadskinmaskAug 14, 2010
Meh.
I still prefer the new Camaro's.
tnoyAug 14, 2010
I wanted a Challenger until I drove one.
grantmoore3dAug 14, 2010
I've heard that similar comment quite a few times, a little disappointing
fordsvt1Aug 14, 2010
The Camaro is pretty sweet, but the Mustang is lighter, out-brakes it, out-handles it, and is 95% as fast in a straight line while getting better fuel economy.
The Challenger has the looks but weighs as much as an elephant and handles like a Dodge Charger sedan.
boofsterAug 14, 2010
ZOMG my 4 cylinder Civic has had 400 horsepower since '92 with the turbo.
AND it gets 30mpg.
STFU stupid Ford.
fordsvt1Aug 14, 2010
It's pretty easy to talk out of your ass, and I don't believe for a second that a 20 year old, 400 hp turbocharged Honda Civic gives you 30 mpg. My friend has a 1993 Integra GSR b17a1 that "only" makes about 350 hp and he's lucky to get 25 mpg on the highway, dipping into single digits any time he opens it up. Any decent B series motor from the 90s will barely get 30 mpg on the highway, let alone with three times it's original horsepower sucking on a blower.
Closed AccountAug 14, 2010
It's believable to have 30mpg HYPERMILING the living s**t out of it and never romping on the big turbo. Assuming it's a small ol' engine with a stupidly-big never-going-to-boost turbo.
350hp and dipping into single digits is kinda crazy! That's some inefficient engine! He should be getting more on the highway if he's driving conservatively!
Camaro SS is overpriced with the dealer markups but before it, it's a good bang for the buck car. But yes, the interior and stupidly bad road view does suck. But it's still nice!
Street legal is not that amazing. Those crazy 1000hp exotic cars are street legal. All it's saying is it passes emissions and safety standards.
The Ford SHO is overpriced. It really reminded me of the standards of the Camaro's interior but with a better view. A good car..but felt really cheap for what you are paying!
I wonder what overly priced MSRP this car is going to have! Sounds like a great car! but seems more fun/worth it to buy the GT and do the mods yourself to your liking! (and probably for cheaper).
Anyone know how the new mustangs handle mods/boost?
n8f8Aug 14, 2010
I'm referring aesthetic design. I thought that was obvious.
