blimey! bloody hell! blokes! gits!
hackiewackieAug 14, 2010
I'm not being sarcastic or anything but there's something up with Europe, first Honda had to pull off their Type R sales (due to EuroV regulations) and now Ford's sale is dropping!
teamelectricAug 14, 2010
maybe its because ford sucks
dikkyAug 14, 2010
auto fanboys :/
johnomazzAug 14, 2010
Nah, my 05 Focus ST just hit 100k miles and still runs beautifully.
strfxAug 14, 2010
So? My 98 Mitsubishi Mirage just hit 160k miles and still runs beautifully.
plainoldfoolAug 14, 2010
95 Tercel with 210k checking in.
tnoyAug 14, 2010
My friends '85 Ranger passed 500k before he bought his F-150. The Ranger was still running strong, too, he just needed something bigger.
My famlies 84 Escort passed 250k miles before we donated it, Mom's Focus is at 110k, Sister's Focus is at 140k, my Miata is at 130k, Brother's Focus is somewhere passed 100k. My dad worked for Ford, so yes, we have a lot of Fords.
Cars in the 100k-150k range is not an accomplishment. If your car fails to hit at least 150k, its mostly a sign that you did something wrong.
A proper measure of quality would be how much time was needed to be spent servicing the car and how much the maintenance cost over the life of the car.
therednewtAug 14, 2010
That's not what everyone (or even anyone) is saying about their newest offerings. They've apparently really turned things around.
visual77Aug 14, 2010
Yeah, they really have. When I bought a car recently, I didn't expect Ford to be anywhere near the top of the list, let alone the maker that I ended up choosing.
The past few years has shown that at least one American automaker knows what the hell they are doing.
fordsvt1Aug 15, 2010
They've never even had to "turn around" in Europe like in the US, they've been making great cars and leading sales there for years. The car market there hit a major slump, most of the automakers have been impacted.
elambingAug 14, 2010
i wonder if there is a decline in all auto purchases, or if the population is moving to another company
strfxAug 14, 2010
It's both: the market has been down 16% compared to last year; and on top of that, Ford's market share has slipped from 9% to 8.3%
ceraphinAug 14, 2010
Maybe it's cause of those ridiculously stupid ford commercials. I hate that mike dude whoever he is, he's such an ass whenever he's talking about ford cars. ooo i'm so stupid for not owning one well F U MAN!Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
plainoldfoolAug 14, 2010
Yeah, it's a dirty job.

He's Mike Rowe from Discovery Channel's Dirty Jobs.
bdbrAug 14, 2010
Are those commercials even shown in Europe?
flyingsquirleAug 14, 2010
OOOOH here's an idea
send all those Euro Fords that didnt sell to America, +22% sales in America!
ikaytoAug 14, 2010
seriously, Fords in Europe look so much better than the line up in America.
Ford Falcon? DOPE!

Australia is part of Europe now?
angelbunnyAug 14, 2010
Why is he being dugg down? The best ford cars are in europe.
nburgAug 14, 2010
I didn't know Ford had much of a market out side of North America?
teamelectricAug 14, 2010
the ford focus and ford trucks are ok but everything else is bad
why buy a crappy car when for the same price you can get a japan or european car thats better in every way?
btw, I drive a BMW 3 series and I will NEVER go back to ford
covenAug 14, 2010
because a BMW and a Ford are totally in the same league...

teamelectricAug 14, 2010
I have loved cars ever since I was a kid, For true car enthusiasts who can appreciate everything about cars ford just doesnt cut it.
I was fortunate to get a BMW but if I had to chose a more economical car there are options available elsewhere. I would much rather drive Honda, Toyota, VW, Nissan and even Kia than ford.
akairennAug 14, 2010
"Kia"
Might want to remove that one; it makes it too obvious that you're doing little but trolling.
teamelectricAug 14, 2010
Kia is part of Hyundai and from what I've been reading Hyundai is well on its way to becoming one of the best cars for its price in the world.
If anyone chooses ford over Hyundai for a car (not truck) BUYER BEWAREComment is buried, click here to see the rest.
maybemableAug 15, 2010
Kia offers a 7 year warranty. In Ireland anyway. That's taking a lot of the doubt away from shoppers in trying times.
Anyway I'm still surprised to hear how you're talking about Ford cars, they've got a good reputation over here.
tbobesAug 16, 2010
Maybe you will want to take a look at the car of the year (a ford). If you think that the fusion and taurus are bad then you are either just that uninformed or you are trolling. They also just came out with the Fiesta which from all the buzz I'm hearing may just be one of the best sub-compact cars out there.
Take a look at some quality ratings. Ford is 5th on the list behind only premium car manufacturers (porsche, lexus, acura). BMW is far below that and Kia is near the bottom. If you look at similar quality ratings you will see the same thing. You were right about Hyundai being good, but thats probably the only correct thing you have said on here.
tbobesAug 16, 2010
Here's another (overall dependability). All three ford brands within the top 8.

teamelectricAug 16, 2010
J.D. Power was a financial analyst for Ford. He has also worked for companies representing GM. Needless to say you picked a very bias source and the only source in the world that would have ford above BMW. After test driving both, only an idiot would chose to drive a ford over BMW.
When it comes to american cars, they are still far behind europe and japan in overall effectiveness and durability. Google ford pinto memo and you'll see the kind of company ford really is.
tbobesAug 16, 2010
Correction, the kind of company ford really was. That was like 20 years ago, you don't think companies go through a massive change within 20 years? If they are involved in GM as well, why was gm so far down the list? JD Power is the most respected for car reviews, maybe next in line would be consumer reports who also report Ford as being on top of domestic vehicles.
Also, stop comparing Ford to BMW. Their cheapest car starts at $30,000, and is not a direct competitor to Ford. If you want to compare BMW to something use Lincoln so the pricing is somewhat similar but BMW's higher end cars are still in a market that Lincoln isn't a part of at all. Also, how do you know how long a car will last from a test drive? That just gives you an overall impression of a car, and if you are comparing a 22,000 dollar fusion to a 35,000 BMW 3 series, I sure hope for over a 10,000 price difference that the BMW was nicer.
y0tsuyaAug 14, 2010
I have both a 2001 BMW 330i and 2006 Ford F-150. BMW for commuting and F-150 for weekend hauling. Best of both worlds.
visual77Aug 14, 2010
It took you only 30 minutes to bash Ford twice in the same article?

Good day, sir.
sandylandersAug 16, 2010
We have 2 Fords. A 2004 Thunderbird (127,000 miles) and a 2007 Navigator (44,000 miles). Great vehicles and the Navigator matches up with the BMW SUV's in terms of luxury and cabin room.

thebiochemistAug 14, 2010
Ford isn't an amazing automobile company but it is way better than GM.
zee13Aug 14, 2010
The Fiesta and the Focus are good cars, but for the same amount of money you can get a VW Polo, which in my opinion just looks better.
The Mondeo just isnt that attractive. The interior just looks like s**t. The vent tubes coming out from the middle of the dashboard together with ugly ass RPM/Speed meter and the overall ugly CD player.
breadfredAug 14, 2010
True. But the Mondeo is reliable and relatively cheap to service. And, they keep on going. My friend has a Focus, and although her car is about 4 years younger than mine (mine is about 10 yrs old), her annual repair bills are higher than mine - by a factor of 2 or 3.
But you are correct, my car is f**king ugly.
beesknees21Aug 14, 2010
Let's face it, if it weren't for the brainwashed 'buy American' citizens Ford, GM, and Chrysler would have ceased to exist a long time ago. Do you think if they had been companies owned by a different country and produced the same "quality" vehicles as they do right now that they would still be in business? Of course not. I'd rank Ford as the best of the three and that's probably somewhere slightly below a hyundai for quality.
balthisarAug 14, 2010
How do you explain "brainwashed 'buy American'" citizens in the rest of the world?
Ford's current quality is ranked with Toyota and Honda right now.
beesknees21Aug 14, 2010
That is the point. The rest of the world isn't brainwashed, that is why Ford and GM sales are abysmal overseas at best.
Please don't make me laugh with your second statement. Whenever I hear comments like this I always ask why all third party independent reliability reviews consistently show year after year that foreign automotive manufacturers far ahead of Ford and GM in terms of reliability and quality?
nitrojunky24Aug 15, 2010
simply not true ford's sell's well in Europe the focus, fiesta, and mondeo, are successful over there maybe not top sellers but defiantly compete. if you're theory is true then nobody would buy a rather crummy Renault or Citroen but people in Europe buy tonnes of those to. I think the point you don't realize is that not everybody buys cars with consumer reports ratings people buy cars because they like the look or the feel of the car. they may even know of it its soft spots but the joy overrules these blemishes. just ask anybody who is into classic cars honestly most old cars especially muscle cars of the 60's are complete crap but they look awesome and you feel awesome riding in them so you don't care.
balthisarAug 16, 2010
Uh, the fact is that Ford's overseas sales are pretty frickin' huge. Have you ever been to South America, Great Britain, and even (dare I mention) Germany? There are a lot more brands in some of these places, but Ford is very highly represented. To say that they're dismal is to confess that you don't know what you're talking about.
When I was young, Japanese cars were junk. It didn't take long for them to have a reputation for reliability. Not too long ago (up through 2003), Hyundai was junk. They're now just ahead of Chrysler (still junk compared to Toyota and Honda and Ford, though). Things change, so you're welcome to admit you were wrong in five years. ;-)
captjAug 14, 2010
I've been waiting to get a Fiesta. I love the crap out of the little thing. Going for it in the next couple months.
evilkrustydollAug 15, 2010
I can't drive one just for the name alone, nothing macho about the name "Fiesta"!
captjAug 17, 2010
I drive a Focus right now, I don't really care about names. If I like how it looks and drives, that's what matters.
heliumflashAug 15, 2010
It appears Ford Europe is going through what Ford America went through in the early 2000s: a bunch of bland cars that get the job done but don't excel in any area.
computershackAug 15, 2010
BWHAHAHA.
There speaks someone who hasn't looked at any European Fords.
evilkrustydollAug 15, 2010
Surely it is all those Calvin "Piss on Ford" stickers that did it right?
7king7kingAug 15, 2010
Maybe the can't A Ford it any more.
dischargeAug 15, 2010
Maybe because they realize it's ford...
computershackAug 15, 2010
The problem is that Ford Europe build bloody good quality cars. The things (Ka apart) simply refuse to die. My Mondeo TDCi is 6 years old, on 141,000 miles and has had nothing go wrong with it. Drives pretty much like new and there's no signs of wear anywhere, even the interior, save stonechips on the front bumper (fender). In a week, I'm off for a holiday around France. It'll do 2000 miles in a week and not even bat an eyelid. Other than topping up washer fluid before setting off, it'll need nothing doing. It doesn't use a drop of oil between its 12,500 mile services.
Because Ford in Europe build cars like that, people have no need to change them other than wanting a new one. Its certainly not because they have to and in times of recession, that's a problem for people who make them.
