No crap.
MicahMauldinAug 25, 2010
It may seem obvious but you would be surprised how many people ignore it. I have friends trying to lose weight, and I tell them to drink a lot of water if they ask my opinion. They will nod their heads, but continue to mainly drink diet coke. If you want to drink a coke you might as well drink a real coke in my opinion. Diet coke is a scam.
artofwar420Aug 26, 2010
Yes, the trick is NOT drinking crap. Water is far from crap.
brownpaperAug 26, 2010
Yeah... Atleast with coke you get energy from it. With Diet Coke its Just Crap-Water.
Closed AccountAug 26, 2010
wrong, diet coke has more caffeine
brownpaperAug 26, 2010
Caffeine is a stimulant, not energy.
duxoroxorAug 26, 2010
According to the article, one of the reasons why drinking more water leads to weight loss is because people are less likely to drink sugary drinks. If this is true, then drinking diet coke would work just as well since there is no sugar in it. Someone should run a comparative trial and offer diet coke in the same quantities and see if the results differ.
unic0rnAug 26, 2010
Diet coke is still an unhealthy sham, like most "diet" things. People need to start getting a grip and losing the "oh whoops I ate a big mac, I better down that with a diet coke to even it out" mentality.
It's pathetic.
andrewjcAug 26, 2010
Diet sodas are still far healthier than their sugary equivalents. While Aspartame isn't the best substance in the world, it's far less harmful than HFCS, which actually has a chemical in it that prevents the brain from receiving the signal that the stomach is full, causing people to eat more. Not to mention its effects on blood sugar.
amerijguyAug 26, 2010
Diet soda still makes you crave sweets, just like regular soda. It's not a much better alternative than regular soda.
oarfanAug 26, 2010
Artificial sweeteners stimulate appetite.
frankoceanAug 26, 2010
Also crave for sweets, sugary meals
lsloanyAug 26, 2010
If you drink artificial sweeteners your body is going to continue to crave sweet drinks and you will be more likely to binge on a non-diet drink. And water unlike diet coke will starve off hunger since most of the time when we believe we are hungry we are simply thirsty.
strangehumorAug 26, 2010
There has been studies (can't cite one right now) that people who drink 2+ cans of ANY soda (diet or not, doesn't matter) a day have a larger probability of becoming overweight. There's new research now suggesting Diet soda is very bad for your kidneys.
Have a coke once in a while *for a special treat*, but drink water for hydration.
fire4effectAug 26, 2010
I don't know about any of the studies, but saying you "mine as well drink a normal Coke" as opposed to diet is ridiculous. I'm not saying diet pop is "healthy" but compared to the amount of sugar and calories that are in Coke compared to Died (which is all zero's minus the sodium), Just common sense. I drink a can or two of diet pop a day, and drink a good amount of water. All about moderation. I also work out 4 times a week and don't eat like an assh**e. Skinny as a rail.
awintersAug 26, 2010
I stopped drinking pop in Summer 09. Lost 10 lbs in two months doing nothing else. Diet pop has sodium and other stuff that is not good for you.
My only problem with water is that its hard to drink in the winter. For some reason I hate it in the winter.
ilbbaiclAug 24, 2010
Apparently eating less food also helps but the science is still out on that one.
justlorenAug 24, 2010
I hate chuckling quietly to myself at work, especially when i should be working
>_>
jadrianAug 25, 2010
Which is how this works as far as I know. You drink before eating, therefore you feel full faster, therefore you eat less.

sgerwel1985Aug 24, 2010
As a person who is currently dieting, i can't tell you how much drinking water jump-starts a diet. That is, assuming you use water to replace your other drinks like pops, teas and etc. The sugar in those not only is bad for you, it doesn't do anything in regards to helping a person shed pounds. However, i don't suggest just drinking water as your only dieting option. Balanced healthy meals, as well as physical exercise will always be the two biggest ways to assure you drop some pounds and keep it off!
ukgersfanAug 25, 2010
Sgerwel Bueller, you're my hero
strangehumorAug 26, 2010
Unsweetened tea is good for you. It is calorie free and contains a lot of antioxidants, assuming your body is ok with caffeine. Heavly processed "tea" drinks that are 90% sugar on the market today are not a good thing to drink though.
These people drank 2 glasses of water before meals, that means their stomachs were full of water thus they ate less to get the full sensation. Also sometimes people mistake hunger for thrust.
grizzlybizzleAug 26, 2010
Lol, you said thrust.
strangehumorAug 26, 2010
Spell check auto-correct, you win this round.
dogcatAug 24, 2010
or it could be that the water contains fluoride and chlorine.. both known to cause weight loss via various degrees of sickness.
vacarulAug 24, 2010
unless you are fat because your body retains more water than normal. Just see a doctor.
diuleiAug 24, 2010
Here' a hint to fatties who can't seem to lose weight: there is no goddamn secret. The fact that you're looking for a secret highlights the root of the problem - you are lazy and undisciplined. It's obvious as hell when you are eating/drinking what is bad for you and not getting enough physical activity.

Oh shut up... You're like one of those stupid teenage kids who gets all pissy when Facebook changed their layout. You probably have 3 groups for "I hate new digg" on Facebook. Just get over it. The new layout is nice and clean.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
covertbadgerAug 26, 2010
I don't care about the layout, the functionality has been broken. When I select 'Expand All Comments' in my settings, I don't expect to have to click a stolen-from-Twitter 'Load More' button every two pages. I said 'Expand All', genius! And why can't I set my comment threshold lower than -5? I like to read every comment on some stories. Now by default half the comments are collapsed and there's nothing I can do about it short of give myself RSI expanding them all manually. It's totally broken. The digg comment system was never very good (max threading depth of 4? Really?) but now it's much, much worse.
crackerjohnAug 26, 2010
Not really diggin it myself
liuiteAug 25, 2010
if you drink too much you can expand your stomach, hence allowing you to eat more
iworkatappleAug 25, 2010
Hmm - my first thought is that the calorie-restrictions they're on ought to lead to far more weight loss than they're reporting. I'm currently dieting at the same rate (circa 1500 calories per day), and I've lost 20.1 lbs in almost 7 weeks, or almost 3 pounds per week.
If they're reporting an average of 15.5 lbs for the with-water drinkers, over a period of 12 weeks, that's only 1.29 lbs/week - significantly less than what I'm experiencing. I'm younger (41, not 55), but that doesn't seem to be as significant as the difference in weight loss. To me, that throws the whole study into question...Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM WATER!!!!
hondaman1010Aug 25, 2010
Just drink 16-20 oz with each meal, and during work outs and you will see that added benefits. I personally shoot for about 1 gallon a day more if I am super active and sweating a lot. Also when I mean 1 gallon of water, I mean 1 gallon of pure water not s**t with water in it, your kidneys and body will have to break down a juice or say an energy drink to pull the water from the source its a much slower process than just drinking pure water.
nameivomAug 25, 2010
From the article, first point "It's a popular dieting secret." If it is popular, how exactly is it a secret? This would be buried by me if there was a bury button.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

I think you guys are dissing this a little too harsh. All it is saying is it is proven that drinking two glasses of water simply helps. I think that's pretty cool.

Water does help weight loss but it is just one part of the many activities that a person must do.
