gizmodo.com— Artist Garvin Nolte really doesn't want to get lost. His art piece Crossroads consists of 25 various satnavs suckered to his car windscreen—all screaming out directions to the same destination. In German. — Submitted Jul 6, 2010
He calls it real life in an abstract way. All I hear is 27 women telling a man what to do and one of them is louder than the rest. He still doesn't listen.
because my decision is a decision based on decisions.... What gives you the right to decide to ask me "what gives me the right to decide that his decision is wrong"?

Person with enough money to blow on a bunch of G.P.S devices isn't really art in my book.
"Hey guys, look at this! I have 25 empty Mcdonalds french fry boxes in the back of my car."
"Take a picture man, that s**t belongs in the Louvre.
I guess something is considered "art" because no one else has done something that stupid before?
Is he trying to impress others that he was creative enough to think of this, or what?
it's art because his spin on it is creative. he says there's more to it than just a bunch of gps systems telling you where to go. he says it represents people yelling at you to take different routes in life. he says it's art because it represents a bigger picture.
i think its pretty stupid though. the song i wrote last week surely has more artistic value, but will probably make me far less money than that piece of s**t will make this artist.
'the piece deals with the "influence of others onto one's own path of life in an abstract way" so we're probably supposed to look at this and ponder whether we should blindly follow advice generated automatically by a machine.'
That really just sounds like an ad hoc justification to attach a bunch of GPS units to a car and get paid for it. Maybe he put a lot of thought into it, but it doesn't seem that way. There's not much "abstract" here. It's not subtle, and I don't find it deep or articulate in its expression of his idea.
I don't like it.

No, this is fantasy. And bad news: You're caught in a landslide.
mctom987 Jul 7, 2010
With no escape from reality. Oh no!
elmuerte17 Jul 7, 2010
"art," lol
letsdienow Jul 7, 2010
sad how people still think they can decide what art is...You can think whatever you want, but if its not a happy thought, keep it to yourself.
pessimist
thechauvinist Jul 7, 2010
letsdienow is accusing someone else of being pessimistic.

Wait...who uses saliva to attach suction cups? Do people really do this?
letsdienow Jul 7, 2010
I think you might be the only one who doesn't know about this.
miraclemaxim Jul 7, 2010
Your suction cups must never work!
d_ude Jul 7, 2010
I try to use plain water when possible, or if I've just finished eating a Snickers.

This car would be unstoppable in NASCAR

Or maybe he has friends to borrow from.
doublebaconsoda Jul 7, 2010
I stopped caring after looking at the picture and didn't bother to read anything beyond it.
Just wondering if those same friends happened to be power diggers.?
papavb Jul 7, 2010
well i read your book, and it's not really a book in my book
/sarcasm , totally agree with you, what he is is a danger to other commuters
luke1h7 Jul 7, 2010
Way to miss the point, dumbass. I hope you did that on purpose.
doublebaconsoda Jul 7, 2010
Don't take my idea of photographing a s**tload of empty fry boxes in by backseat.

I'm willing to send him my mother-in-law. He'll always be told where to turn and how to drive. Free shipping, even to Germany, no returns.
jeremec Jul 7, 2010
One might argue that the fact that this evokes a reaction, albeit negative, qualifies it as art.
jetaimemina Jul 7, 2010
This.. makes your comment art, congrats!

the piece deals with the "influence of boobies onto one's own path of life in an abstract way."
