These floods and the fires in Russia.... nice if you invest in commodities.
athrasherAug 14, 2010
Let's hope they can stave off dysentery.
nouman1989Aug 14, 2010
Looks like things will get worse before they get better.
ryanwbAug 14, 2010
You could have really added a Digg style by making the title: "Confirmed!!! Cholera in Pakistani Flood Disaster"
tsothaAug 14, 2010

s**t, that's terrible. I didn't realize that the floods were THAT bad, 20 million people are now homeless, that's more people than a lot of states have.
doctordbxAug 14, 2010
Before the flood, 19,999,500 people were homeless.

I'd add in some sort of Oregon Trail quip if this wasn't such horrible news piled on top of already horrible news. Frak you, Mother Nature.
clevercommenterAug 14, 2010
Playing Oregon Train 2 atm. Though I did have to DL and use Windows XP mode to run the 16-Bit application.

Serious question here:
We had a telethon to help Haiti after the earthquake. Why are groups not mobilizing/organizing with more visibility in media to aid Pakistan? In addition to the disease and suffering, there is a possibility this will destabilize their government.
Closed AccountAug 14, 2010
Maybe because:
1. We give them s**t tons of aid already to be our "ally" in Afghanistan.
2. Despite our aid, they help the Taliban kill our troops.
Closed AccountAug 14, 2010
Yeah, but these floods aren't killing the Taliban....
Are there charities to donate to? I firmly believe that by reaching out to provide aid in times like this, you might change the mind of someone brainwashed by the madrassas.
This is a natural disaster that is looking to be epic and might even destabilize the government. I know that if I knew which charity ... I would certainly donate as long as they knew it was a charity originating aid from the USA.
Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
sanmanAug 15, 2010
the province most hit by the floods is indeed where the Taliban come from and operate out of
mrpassionAug 14, 2010
Believing all the Allah talk that comes out of this country, I guess it is safe to assume that Allah doesnt like them very much.
doctordbxAug 14, 2010
Where is Saudi Arabia? UAE? Kuwait? Qatar? Bahrain?
You know, the oil rich countries which depend heavily on cheap Pakistani labour to drive their taxis, to build their homes, to cart off their sewerage?
Nowhere. They don't want to know about it.
Ramadan Muburak Pakistan, can't see much Zakat coming your way though from this region.
mrpassionAug 14, 2010
I agree with you. But this flood problem no matter how big is temporary. One day sooner or later it will go away. What wont go away is the tendency in Pakistan to teach their kids that Pakistan is the FORT OF ISLAM because only they have the nukes and everything from Palestine to Kashmir is their issue and its OK to pick up arms and Jehad around the world. The other muslim countries on the other hand couldnt care less. A Pakistani man can move to EU marry an EU girl and get EU citizenship. But guess what he cant do that in Saudi Arabia. Some muslim unity this is!
pashtonAug 14, 2010
China isn't Muslim. Haha
mrpassionAug 16, 2010
But Pakistan claims that China is their best friend.
pashtonAug 16, 2010
I see what you mean now, I very much agree with what you have said actually. Pakistan is a cancer in the region and needs to be dealt with.. but the way you said the whole ummah thing threw it off. An Ummah does not necessarily mean a one nation. Its more like a union.. you can think of the European Union to get an idea of it.
mrpassionAug 16, 2010
I know what Ummah means. Pakistan claims that under the shadow of their nuclear bombs they will create an EU like union of muslim nations that will accept Pakistan as its centre of gravity. Thats why I mentioned it because it will never happen. The ideology is there but Muslim nations do not have selfless leaders to realise it.

I did some Googling.

"IN A country of 170 million people, where anti-American sentiment burns brightly, the United States may have won 84 friends by scooping them up in the belly of a Chinook helicopter and ferrying them away from Kalam, a flooded mountain town."

Some worry that the Taliban is benefitting.
Charity info:
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton encouraged Americans to donate $10 to Pakistan flood relief by texting "SWAT" to 50555. Clinton said the funds would be used by the United Nations to provide food, water, medicine, tents and clothing to affected families.
(I want the people of Pakistan to know that the money is from the USA...so, I'm looking for US based charities.)
