My question is why did they not just go to Disneyland? It's much closer and way better than Dollywood. What kind of kid even knows what Dollywood is?
anothersoldierAug 14, 2010
Kids smart enough to save up their money and conspire to leave the state?
hydesAug 14, 2010
in what world is disneyland closer to florida than nashville?
jwcaccesAug 14, 2010
Clearly he was thinking of Disney World
philbertAug 14, 2010
I was going to ask the same question.
rhydebleAug 14, 2010
He should've gone to Paris.
casualtAug 14, 2010
Florida has Disney World
adml_shakeAug 14, 2010
Have you been to disneyworld (I assume thats what you meant) lately? It was probable cheaper going to Dollywood.
orangekid13Aug 14, 2010
*Walt Disney World
it's three words
abk0110Aug 14, 2010
I never knew what my parents were saying when I was really young.
"Hey kids, get excited! We're going to Wolt Disney Warld?"
"Where?"
"Ward Disney Wold"
"um, sounds fun"
Hence, Disney World.
aanrAug 14, 2010
Dollywood is a 150 or so miles away from Nashville.
chesdougAug 14, 2010
Florida kids.
Closed AccountAug 14, 2010
As a Floridian I can tell you, once you've been to theme parks a few times it gets old. I would rather see snow and that's free and unwanted for much of the U.S.
Grass is always greener where you water it, tho.
jfallon126Aug 14, 2010
People in the south. Seriously, it's their Mecca.

Dollywood is fun, but Silver Dollar City is much better!
teacher2beAug 14, 2010
Go go go-carts!
garrettwaltAug 14, 2010
logged in just to digg you...love love LOVE Silver Dollar City
rustyinarlenAug 13, 2010
Such a non-story. First report I heard about this they were blaming Southwest for not checking the kids ID's.
thorlordAug 14, 2010
why? these kids are obviously fairly advanced for their age, kudos for them for not being scared by our outside world and having an adventure.
most importantly, for going on an adventure and coming home.
christ, if my kid did that i would be proud as s**t.
thoughtsonthisAug 13, 2010
Does your mother know where you are?
diggscrapAug 13, 2010

bobosmitorAug 13, 2010
They really love country music.
themachine1Aug 14, 2010
The TV report said they flew to the wrong city. This story is about the failure of our public schools to teach geography.
sagegoku666Aug 14, 2010
I knew a kid back in highschool who flew from here (montana) to florida once every other week to pick up cocaine. Parents never knew (and for the record i dont do it)
/cool story bro
juca5056Aug 14, 2010
That kid is f**king coooool
gerrylazloAug 14, 2010
Did he write it off as a business expense?
sniperhareAug 14, 2010
Why didn't you notify the authorities?
worldgrooveAug 14, 2010
Right, A highschool kid with the courage(and cash) to fly every 2 weeks to get cocaine... and you expect sagegoku to narc on him? I wouldn't touch that.
daltonkuepkerAug 14, 2010
Perhaps the kid was Hotel Soap? Cocaine IS vitamins to him you know.
sagegoku666Aug 14, 2010
a couple of reasons... because he wasn't hurting anyone.. and its not like someone wouldnt just replace him if i did. and snitching is the wrong thing to do because the war on drugs is huge f**king bulls**t. plus he was my friend (what, you think everyone knew about his business ventures?)
its not like he had an army or i was afraid. there really isnt that kind of flexing around here that you'd find in urban scenes
BTW he eventually quit and now sells pizzas and is going to school
icecold54Aug 14, 2010
Why does he have to notify the authorities? Why do you give a f**k what he does?
Let him pick up his coke; it has NOTHING to do with you; keep on living yours without having to ruin someone else's.
sagegoku666Aug 14, 2010
icecold - exactly
teacher2beAug 14, 2010
This is straight out of a Simpsons episode, with planes instead of a car.
rmfootball69Aug 14, 2010
Or straight out of a south park episode when cartman and 3 others fly to cairo then on to samalia to be pirates. Only the flying part though... unless they were going to tennessee to become pirates in which our school systems REALLY failed on geography.
kinggorillaAug 14, 2010
hahaha i was thinking about this too
TV: It's 11 o'clock, do you know where your children are?
Homer: I Told You Last Night! NO!
animan351Aug 14, 2010
They wanted to go to Nashville. It's a gimme that they were this stupid.
ghostalkerAug 14, 2010
"It's 11 o'clock, do you know where your children are?"
"For the last time.... NO!"
- Homer
randmcnallyAug 14, 2010
not trying to be a dick or anything but it's:
"It's 11 o'clock, do you know where your children are?"
"I told you last night! NO!"
ssomu007Aug 14, 2010
what amazing kids? have you all taken permit from your parent already? too brave in their age.
kaquinAug 14, 2010
So they flew to Nashville called there parents to tell them where they were and then flew back... Well that was a good use of $700.
docholiday22Aug 14, 2010
Well these kids belong to the 25% of the American population that own a passport.
casualtAug 14, 2010

rizzosbackAug 14, 2010

As a Knoxvillian, I resent your comment.
But then, I remember how little there is to do here and realize you're probably right...
:/
s0nicfreakAug 14, 2010
I see nothing wrong with this.
ueichenAug 14, 2010
I wish i had an awesome adventure like that when I was a child
darkstar3333Aug 14, 2010
You consider taking a cab to the airport, waiting in line and flying somewhere only to fly back an adventure?
ueichenAug 14, 2010
if you do it by yourself when you are 10, then hell yes!
ssdrunksAug 14, 2010
They're going to have to fly them back inside the crate for a nuclear reactor.
DEAR GOD SPRINGFIELD
eadwyn1Aug 14, 2010
"The children say no one asked them for identification."
Since when could you fly without showing ID? I've heard of people not being allowed through security because there was a typo on the ticket that didn't match the person's name.
slothy88Aug 14, 2010
I recall hearing this on the news with the southwest rep saying they didn't check IDs when the children are below a certain age.
Closed AccountAug 14, 2010
while others are harassing infants mothers because their child matched or were similar to terror watchlist persons.
frmatcAug 14, 2010
But kids wouldn't have ID. Those people would be old enough to have ID. Considering the kids would pass through security without issue if they had their parents with them, it strikes me as a loophole.
swiftheartAug 14, 2010
The specific TSA rule is no ID is required if you are under 18. (For domestic trips obviously.)
Had they been travelling international, they would have shown passports. But I fail to understand how that would have changed anything.
akairennAug 14, 2010
Oh my god, what would happen if they were TERROR BABIES? :O
spuffinAug 14, 2010
I have flown without Government ID 2-3 years ago - the only thing they required of me was to go through the manual screening process where they inspected all of my bags (I was only carrying on luggage) and I got the whole pat down / metal detector (with wand) process.
The trip was from DFW to SFO and the process was the same coming back SFO to DFW - so I doubt I got any kind of preferential treatment.

scottyanimalAug 14, 2010
I think the real story hear is...NOTHING HAPPENED. These children flew by themselves and nobody abducted, raped, scared, hit, or otherwise damaged them.
Not advising it, I just think some people need to realize the boogeyman isn't waiting around the corner to snatch your child.

fuzi0ndetAug 14, 2010
Well at that age flying is a lot of fun. Then you grow up become an adult and grow to hate flying for business. I was thinking about this while sitting in an airport and hatting it. I wondered how I possibly could have found anything about the airport fun?

wallyhartshornAug 14, 2010
The oldest kid was 15 years old. Not a grownup, no, but not exactly a child, either. In some states, you can get married at age 15 (under certain circumstances). Whether a 15-year-old should be flying alone is debatable, but I'm not sure whether the answer is an obvious "no".
harrypowersAug 14, 2010
So you posted here to tell everyone you have no opinion about kids flying alone? I guess both our post are a waste.
path411Aug 14, 2010
A 15 year old should no way be deemed old enough to be the 'adult' accompanying 2 much younger children.

What's the problem? Should kids not be able to buy train tickets, either?
walmartconnectAug 14, 2010
At 11 years old? No, actually, they should not be able to buy long distance, mass transit tickets without a guardian's consent.
\common sense.
mattdellAug 14, 2010
So if I raise a kid in Washington, DC and want them to take the train to visit their relatives in Baltimore, MD for the weekend, I can't let them unless I actually purchase the ticket for them? I can't teach my kid self-reliance until they are over 18?
Closed AccountAug 14, 2010
http://freerangekids.wordpress.com/2008/04/06/why-i-let-my-9-year-old-ride-the-subway-alone/
Maybe that's not quite comparing apples with apples, but sometimes I wonder if parents fear too much, and kids don't have enough independance.
No, I don't have kids.
walmartconnectAug 14, 2010
I wouldn't leave my 11 year old at the curb next to a train station alone. I'd escort them to a train station and observe them board the train, knowing that they would be met at the train's arrival by the other family member.
mattdellAug 14, 2010

impulsivesAug 14, 2010
Airlines must be the problem, let's restrict them since parents, due to their busy lives, are incapable of monitoring what airlines their kids take when they're not looking...
sparkieAug 14, 2010
Yeah no kidding. If these kids were true ballers they would've flown Jet Blue. At least then they'd have in flight entertainment in their seatbacks, and leather seats.
51rp3n7Aug 14, 2010
I did that when I was 16 and went to Hawaii. I lived on the beach in a tent for a month.
alskeltonAug 14, 2010
I traveled with my older brother when we were 12 and 16 no questions asked...
marinoaAug 14, 2010

mathsciteachAug 14, 2010
I was expecting the "kids" to all be 13 or younger. But 15? Whatever. Not sure why she didn't have any other 15 year old friends, though.
ryanmarksAug 14, 2010
s**t i would fly to Nashville if i lived in Florida too
hyp36rmaxAug 14, 2010
Sounds like these kids were just having an adventure... fortunately they are fine maybe reprimanded for a week or two, but damn, one kid saved $700 and paid for her younger brother and friend to travel any where reasonable with their budget for s**ts and giggles. They could have taken a greyhound and i don't think anyone would have questioned them. Good for them, sure beats the spoiled kids of today who whine and bitch about everything...
