Maybe the next time The Chive or whoever does a hoax, they can bring attention to something like this.
FuriousFanboysAug 16, 2010
That wasn't The Chive's hoax they just water marked the pics lol.

You see sometimes facebook can be used for something good.
factsahoyAug 17, 2010
Don't count on it. Facebook has a history of arbitrarily deleting pages with no excuse, no contact, and no means of getting it fixed. Look for stories of pages being deleted by these scumbags when they hit 10,000 fans for no reason.
Facebook has even deleted the pages of paying advertisers. Don't be fooled; they're not out to do anyone good. This page apparently escaped their notice long enough.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

executexAug 16, 2010
Ah so facebook is not always a waste of your short time in life.
factorof13Aug 16, 2010
Well, maybe not, since the only thing that happened was that the Transit Authority deleted their Facebook page.

Really sad, and even worse that anyone can fathom taking advantage of loopholes like this to steal away someone's livelyhood like that.
Side note: If I'm that kid I would request a better picture that looking like a 12 year old emo Jared Leto.
immunofortAug 17, 2010
Indeed it is difficult to fathom considering we don't even know what the loophole they are referring to is.
factorof13Aug 16, 2010
It's a shame that the only thing that happened because of this was that the Transit Authority deleted their Facebook page.
tekdemonAug 16, 2010
They might as well give him the higher pension since it'll be a lot cheaper than the bad publicity. It's not like he's gonna be living another 30 years with stage IV lung cancer.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
factorof13Aug 16, 2010
He already died. It's right there in the article.
marytormeyAug 16, 2010
This sort of thing is still happening on a large scale and something should be done.
fuzzybeardAug 17, 2010
Not just with pensions either. I was let go from my job today after nearly four years of loyal, dedicated service under some severe conditions. Their reason? "Your not hitting you production numbers, sorry." Kind of hard to make quota putting freight away in a ware house that is bulging at the seams due to executive fiat.
/bitter? oh hell yes!
clumsytimeAug 16, 2010
If you click the link toward the bottom to the family's blog, it says that he died on August 10th.
This story was published today? I wonder if they published it not knowing he had recently passed away.
Really sad.
wendyrosegouldAug 16, 2010
The story states: "Sadly, Officer Ludwig passed away last Tuesday evening."
norman619Aug 16, 2010
FTA:
"Sadly, Officer Ludwig passed away last Tuesday evening.
"Our Dad was always the one fighting for what is right and protecting us and others his whole life. Now for us to have had to fight for him was -- and is -- difficult, but necessary," says Mark. "The family has and will continue to share this story until my father's situation is corrected." "
I'm a bit confused.
dorkessAug 17, 2010
I think the pension is still payed to the immediate family, such as his wife and children. My friend's dad was a police officer and when he passed, his pension went to his widow and son.
norman619Aug 17, 2010
Ah OK that makes sense now. Thanks.
sushimaster89Aug 17, 2010
I think they are saying they want the loophole in the disability pensions to be corrected so it doesn't happen to other people.
dougm68Aug 17, 2010
OHHHH This must be one of those cute digg threads that every posts gets either 13 or -13 diggs. I just love those. I'll start it. digg.

blacksnakemoanAug 17, 2010
I was really excited to see the little guy win against the big... then it said he died last Tuesday :(
Hopefully the Washington Police will fix this error in their pension plan before another family goes through this.
fuzzybeardAug 17, 2010
Aw crap, I'm too late... :(
mikejafoAug 17, 2010
OK, so I know the OP is just repeating the headline from the story, but how is this kid "fighting for his Grandfather's life"? Fighting for his pension perhaps or to make sure it doesn't happen to anyone else, but even before Gramps died he already had Stage IV lung Ca - there ain't no Stage V. Sorry if it seems insensitive.

They loved him so much that the grandson would sleep by his grandfathers bed in case the old man wanted a late night cigarette.
tasmith1972Aug 17, 2010
I noticed that there is nothing in the article that actually explains what this "loophole" is. Before I get flamed, I want to say that this man probably got screwed. However, the MTPD is likely a public entity, which means that the directors MUST follow the rules by law. 19 years is rarely long enough to draw a full pension, most public plans require at least 25. I would not be surprised if this was a situation where the plan's managers had no choice. Remember, this was a disability pension, not a full pension. Those are always less because the worker has contributed fewer years. Without more details we are only getting one side of this story. For those of you who can't comprehend my second sentence, let the flames begin.
immunofortAug 17, 2010
Agreed, They make no reference to what the actual loophole was. From the site http://officerludwig.com/ The department did say in a letter that he would continue to receive full pension but it was later found that this was a mistake.
eh123Aug 17, 2010
The Transit Authority gave him cancer.
Or maybe it was the chain-smoking ...

His story is nothing compared to Jessica Roark's story.

Please donate to her cause, she raised money whenever she could for the American Cancer Society when she was healthy, but she's too sick to do that anymore.
wageslaveAug 17, 2010
Isn't it sad that we are living in a country where you "fight for someone's life" and the goal is simply to make enough money to pay for medical treatment.
s0nicfreakAug 17, 2010
Fight for his life? Bull. It does not say they took his insurance away or anything. It just says he was getting less money and so had to move in with his family. If he was dying, I don't understand why he wasn't already selling his house and living with his family to spend as much time as possible with them instead of wasting money living in a house that he needed $2,800 a month to live in.
theundertokerAug 17, 2010
He was a frickin' cop. Who cares. Buried as lame.
