Rather than freebies: hunt down the hackers, prosecute and punish them severely and in public.
mrcanardApr 30, 2011
Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.
Sony please crawl off and die.
psilipharmApr 30, 2011
Bring back "OtherOS"... this is where they screwed up in the first place, hackers are pissed that they can't run Linux on the PS3 anymore thanks to some corporate dumbass.
neotechniApr 30, 2011
Except OtherOS was taken away cause Geohot said he could use it to remove all protection.
psilipharmApr 30, 2011
Well, in the end, it wasn't OtherOS that allowed all protection to be removed, and it was a USB bug allowed the PS3 to be jailbroken. Actually, the fact that Sony instead of using a Random Number for signing code, they used the same number every time, that was the biggest FAIL. But, if you watched fail0verflow explain the PS3's security, there were a number of FAILs on Sony's part, only 20% of the security needed to be hacked to be able to play backups, in order to run Linux, they needed 100% hacked. The OtherOS removal sparked a challenge for hackers, and before the removal there weren't a lot of effort into hacking the PS3, hackers want to run their own code on consoles, homebrew and emulators. The goal of fail0verflow was to bring back OtherOS and not playing copied games, GeoHot took their ideas and released a custom firmware that allowed unofficial code to run, but left out the patch necessary to run backups. Sony should have not removed OtherOS, and the PS3 may have remained un-jailbroken.

Pay the entire cost of the congressional hearing, plus 10% more into a slush fund to cover future costs of similar investigations.

Nothing; it wasn't their fault. It's like blaming a person that got mugged.

Analogies suck.
True, It is LIKE blaming a person that got mugged. But it is NOT the same thing. Want to guess why? It's because getting mugged is NOT the same thing as one of the largest corporations getting hacked resulting in the largest security breach the world has know. With something that big, you assume that somebody will get read access at some point and plan accordingly to mitigate the damage. This was obviously not done because the every single account worldwide was obtained.

A month of free PSN+ is my best guess:
- it will promote PSN+
- gamers will have some free games to download, but can only play until the month is done
- Gamers get discounts, but they are still paying Sony to get the game
seattlegirluwApr 30, 2011
PSN *is* free. Xbox Live isn't.
kingfootApr 30, 2011
And? PSN+ isn't free...
seattlegirluwApr 30, 2011
Ah, misread that. Sorry, I stand (well, sit) corrected.
kingfootApr 30, 2011
It would be a typical Sony move.
damnyooneekApr 30, 2011
I can't trust them anymore. They lost me as a customer.
frayedknotjeffApr 30, 2011
They're going to want a credit card number for whatever they may give, and there is no way I'll trust Sony ever again with any of my important information.

An XBOX360 with Kinect and XBOX Live! for all affected PSN members
RedLeader1987Apr 30, 2011
Have Kevin Butler do a "We're Sorry" commercial like the ones from the episode of South Park 'Coon and Friends'. I would lol my ass off if they did that and all would be forgiven.
-awkward pose looking at the camera- "Soooorry."
aikomikoApr 30, 2011
A lifetime subscription to Life-lock would be a start. And I second the blow jobs. And whatever women want. Probably not blow jobs.
I'm rambling. I ramble. I've rambled.
xk1dreaperxApr 30, 2011
They are losing so much money off of this. Will anyone want to go back to the PS3 after this !?!?
blixominousApr 30, 2011
They should toss all the PS3 owners salads.
UncleTogieApr 30, 2011
What *should* it be?
A mental shift that would keep them from referring to their customers as criminals would be a good fraggin' start. Muzzling their lawyers would be another good idea. Example:
"Gabriel asked if it was wrong for consumers to make copies of music which they have purchased, even just one copy. Pariser, {Sony's head of litigation at the time} replied, 'When an individual makes a copy of a song for himself, I suppose we can say he stole a song. Making "a copy" of a purchased song is just "a nice way of saying 'steals just one copy', she said. "

As if they haven't lost enough money already. They're getting royally screwed over ^_^

For months GamingForever has been running multiple accounts to push garabge stories on various social media websites like digg and reddit. Recently
this same guy was banned from reddit, you can check that out here:
http://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/gepnl/gamepro_g4tv_and_vgchartz_gamrfeed_have_been/
As you can probably see hes been spamming with 20 odd accounts on reddit before he was busted open.
This became a huge incident which resulted in to gamepro, vgchartz and g4tv being banned on reddit.
The same unfortunately is happening on digg as well.
He's been gaming digg with multiple accounts which I found out (probably could be more, if the digg staff cares to find about this):
His primary account: http://digg.com/gamingforever
The spammy Gamepro account: http://digg.com/GamePro
For vgchartz hes been using multiple accounts:
http://digg.com/tadj
http://digg.com/gukingofheart
As you can see all of these accounts are used for submitting the same websites.
Also these profiles have zero comments and zero diggs on digg.com which means they have been created just to game the system. Who knows he must be burying submissions from other websites so that these garbage websites could front page on digg.com
Now there is nothing wrong with a user submitting the same website on digg.com but the point here is that this guy is using multiple accounts to game and earn money from these so called "mainstream" media.
You can check the gaming page on digg, its infested with gamepro and vgchartz stories: http://digg.com/news/gaming/media/recent
Digg please completely ban these accounts, I'd say they've proven themselves more than worthy of that. If that doesn't happen, everyone, please bury any submissions from these accounts with extreme prejudice. They've been heavily abusing the system for months, and don't deserve any more traffic from digg.

Stop jacking up the god damn price of Bluray movies.
I don't give a s**t if Bluray was the better format in comparison to HDDVD, it isn't worth $30. Since Sony rammed the overpriced, under-developed PS3 down everyone's throats because of how badly they wanted Bluray to win, their goodwill gesture can be the abandonment of all format licenses so that Bluray discs will become affordable.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
amigaiceApr 30, 2011
Go to Wal-Mart dude. They have a whole section of $10 Blurays. Some a little more. But a pretty good selection
