Kane & Lynch should have been stillborn.
lukewindSep 10, 2010
I seriously want to punch people in the Solar Plexus for liking that game. It was so much ass!
jeahSep 10, 2010
I really don't understand the extreme hate for this game. The game has some decent qualities to it (environment art is actually pretty decent) and it has coop, which is more than most games even attempt.
Overall it's below average, but it isn't even close to the worst game release this year. Not. Even. Close.
openthinkSep 9, 2010
Guitar Hero, Rock Band ... at some point, maybe worth learning how to actually play the guitar? Those rocks songs aren' all that complicated or hard -- you know, 3, 4, 5 chords max...you'll be sounding like the real thing in no time!
reddevildSep 10, 2010
Have you seen anything for Rock Band 3? Also i think the author might be a 'tard considering Harmonix (who owns the Rock Band series) originally created Guitar Hero 1&2 then sold it to activision who are just trying to out gun Harmonix, and failing horribly at it
h0msarSep 10, 2010
After reading the article, I went straight to the comments for the sole purpose of setting the record straight about the Harmonix, Rock Band Activision, Guitar Hero story. You beat me to the punch. Well done.

Are you really that stupid? Not everyone WANTS to learn to play an instrument. No...it doesn' make you a better person, or smarter or more cultures because you can play the guitar. It just means you annoy your neighbors more with your horrible cat drowning noise. Why do peope play first person shoooters instead of joining the military? Because they want to play a GAME.
brockatkinsonSep 10, 2010
Exactly!
I could grab a guitar and start playing a s**tty rendition of a song that I learned off guitartabs.com when I'm at a party, which I'm sure everyone will get bored of very quickly, OR I could slap on Guitar Hero, or a number of other variations (Lips etc) and enjoy it with a group of people.
Especially when drunk.
brockatkinsonSep 10, 2010
I really want my friends to come over and play an awesome version of Sweet Child O' Mine, so I'm headed off to the music store to buy an electric guitar, bass guitar, two amplifiers, a drum kit, and a microphone. Yeah alright I'll just drop $4000 when I want a half hour of entertainment.
jess184Sep 9, 2010
Pretty solid list. Final Fantasy really did get stale. All downhill after final fantasy 8.

mrswixSep 10, 2010
well we HAVE arrived at the last installment of the Halo series. So shut the f**k up. 5 days.
kangy3213Sep 10, 2010
343 industries is making a Halo 4. And i don't think Halo needs to be killed off. I think they should make a new Multiplayer title for halo every now and then. What i'm saying is, a whole multiplayer experience but no story mode.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
parrappaSep 10, 2010
Halo should die? f**k you. Halo is the greatest franchise ever created.
gogogadge7Sep 10, 2010
Except you know.... Super Mario... Legend of Zelda...
you know what.... f**k it.
mccullough13Sep 10, 2010
yeah because we all love seeing nine billion different mario games. f**k off.
fxspec06Sep 10, 2010
i lost my girlfriend to halo
mossop10Sep 10, 2010
I never had a girlfriend due to halo.
brockatkinsonSep 10, 2010
Have you never tried anything else?
The only reason Halo could become the greatest franchise ever created if it was the only franchise ever created. Then it'd also be the worst anyway.
fxspec06Sep 10, 2010
madden rocks and you all know it
elcadSep 10, 2010
2K5 4 Life!
Madden isn't bad, but it's nasty how short they support the games. After just a couple years they yank away the online and they never offer updated roosters.
And what ever happened to the PC version? Used to love playing some Madden while tailgating.
dandoniaSep 12, 2010
If they offered updated rosters, quite a lot of people wouldn't pick up the next installment. It's pretty much their main selling point.
I just wish the law would put an end to exclusive contracts like that. I'm a major wrestling fan and watching THQ/Yukes destroy the wrestling game genre is painful.
syphondexSep 10, 2010
Am I the only one that thought ODST was one the best in the series?
meccaydnaSep 10, 2010
Yes.
Honestly though, I thought it was a cool game...all 3 hours of it.
syphondexSep 12, 2010
It was short, really should have come out as a DLC pack, but still the game itself was pretty fun and the storyline was possibly the best out of the series.
neotechniSep 10, 2010
mario games
there are so many they stopped using numbers
dandoniaSep 12, 2010
But they are always critically acclaimed as some of the best games ever made and they sell by the millions. Just because there are endless iterations of something, does not mean it should be killed off.
Franchises like Smackdown vs Raw which has consistently got worse, now that's a different story.

Actually it was a digg bug, it posted that, not me.
proteus8898Sep 10, 2010
Wow, whoever wrote this article honestly is clueless about what video games are. They are an entertainment BUSINESS, and theres still millions if not billions to be made on these franchises.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Heads: the gaming industry (your comment)
Tails: the gaming public (the article)
Closed AccountSep 10, 2010
obviously the gaming public likes the games since they are buying them.
melthornalSep 10, 2010
Logic fail. The gaming public wants games. Just because they buy s**t games doesn't mean they don't want good ones. It means there just aren't good ones to be had.
Closed AccountSep 10, 2010
So you're saying that the gaming public prefer endless uninspired sequels rather than fresh and innovative IPs? In reality and for the most part, gamers buy what they're given and publishers produce whatever makes a profit without risking their investment. My point is, a lot of gamers are getting jaded regardless of the business side of things.
brockatkinsonSep 10, 2010
Just like Justin Bieber. It's obvious the music public likes him because they are buying his albums.
proteus8898Dec 30, 2010
Gamers want fun games. Many of the latest games in these franchises are fun, highly rated, and financially successful. Just because an upper-crust 5% of ultra-geeks prefer to showcase just how leet they are by hating the mainstream doesn't mean these franchises deserve to or will ever die.
dwhsSep 10, 2010
This is too stupid to even respond.
maxvetteSep 10, 2010
and you're too stupid to realize you just did
snapcaseSep 10, 2010
And yet, you did.
jdenzerSep 10, 2010
What about Tomb Raider, Devil May Cry, and Resident Evil?
elcadSep 10, 2010
Agree with you on the Tomb Raider. Never got into Devil May Cry. I only loved RE4 and the rest could go away for all I care.
wondertwinsSep 10, 2010
Even though FF series has been here longer than my existence, all Final Fantasy games are not the same. Yes, they are RPG's but unlike Halo and Tony Hawk, many things IN the game change such as the character skill builds and story lines are completely different besides a few exceptions.
lukewindSep 10, 2010
You missed a big one Killzone, Halo has been a great gaming series that has spawned so much fiction and cool offshoots. ODST was a slightly bad decision, but the game was not bad, just not anything terribly better. I think it could go one because there are so many stories to tell in that universe past and present. But to go on it needs to be evolved more.....Reach does look awesome though.
Killzone however has only offered buttery visuals, although the art style is rather boring (hey look more rusty metal and girders). Ask 1,000 gamers and I bet they can't name more the one character from that game. I know Sony views it as their cream of the crop FPS, but in reality the MP died less then 6 months after launch. At one point more people were still playing Halo 2 more the Killzone 2. I am no Sony hater..I like my PS3, but I just don't see any reason to keep this anemic show off game franchise going....but who knows maybe Killzone 3 will catch on big....probably not.
Closed AccountSep 10, 2010
I can't even name one character from that game.
coasterfreak212Sep 10, 2010
I finished and played Killzone 2 and found it rather enjoyable, but I feel it suffers the same fate of Avatar, which I hated.
Stunning Visuals, Painfully lame story line
wolfpackfd3sSep 10, 2010
Agreed, Killzone 2 was a disappointment for me after you get past the awesome visuals. I found the controls sloppy, I can't stand playing FPS games on the PS3 (Hello Power A controller), the story was boring, and there was nothing cool setting the game apart from other generic FPS games. I just don't see how it was so raved about, I probably would give it only like a 7.5 or 8/10. The third game does look more promising though.
dandoniaSep 12, 2010
What a refreshing surprise it is to find a huge Halo fan who hates Killzone.
yelnikSep 10, 2010
So basically they took a bunch of the best and longest running gaming franchises ever created and claim they should stop making all of them...ya, how about no.
dandoniaSep 12, 2010
I hear you buddy, but sometimes it's like seeing a fighter who just doesn't know when to retire, so he keeps getting back in the ring - losing and ruining his legacy.
FrankieDUBSep 10, 2010
I can't disagree with any of these choices.
I was glad to see Halo as #1.
mrdeadheadSep 10, 2010
i'm happy he decided to leave out the Soul Caliburs and the Pokemans
ca5tielSep 10, 2010
List forgot Gears of War and Fable.

1. The Top Ten Video Game Franchises That Should Die

Obviously a list created by a Nintendo fan :-)
googledrummerSep 10, 2010
He talked about fanboyism surrounding Halo, but conveniently left off the Call of Duty series.
nick041Sep 10, 2010
Pretty nice unbiased list. Resident Evil should be on that list too.
