And the bribing of the users begins. Sony says, "Heres a few cents for what is a major security breakdown, that could bite the users in the ass one day soon".
immunofortApr 30, 2011
Who said it was going to be a few cents?

CVV code is a joke. Most CS ops can bypass it and although some systems will stop you for 3 wrong tries in a row, it only applies to that site. That means 2 tries + 50 sites max and you have it.
I worked card fraud prevention for an etailer for 8 years. The credit card companies make money off fraud and Sony will sidestep any problems. It is the store that accepts the bad charge that really gets screwed. (orig. transaction fee+ charge back transaction fee+ return of customer funds + fraud penalty.)
Visa/MC make more on a single fraud charge(via internet) than they do on a legit one. It's their "card not present transaction" rules.

So maybe a conspiracy to say that Visa hacked the PSN? Especially if their business partnerships weren't going so well.

I don't know about that. I think it's more like Casinos. Why bother breaking the law and bothering to cheat when yo can legally screw people cross eyed anyway.
How DO you bankrupt a casino? And Trump wants to run the economy?

Sony's name is permanently tarnished in my book. I will never knowingly or willingly purchase a sony product again. Their actions in the past 12 months are absurd, and this issue is just pathetic. Their products are also pretty terrible, and the PS3 is barely worth having. I just keep it to watch bluray, and quite honestly I could get a better player for about 30$ at this point. I just don't feel like spending the 30$. In other words, the only reason I would ever, ever, ever, ever consider buying the PS3, any games, or any peripherals is completely gone. Good job Sony, you have made yourself into a giant irrelevant douche bag. You are essentially the Ryan Seacrest of the consumer electronic world.

Sony sucks.
eadnamsApr 30, 2011
Man, they're never gonna make their investment back on the PS3 now...
barackalypseApr 30, 2011
They will suspend lawsuits against customers for 2 weeks!
SocialJeremyApr 30, 2011
happy to see that Sony isn't wasting any time. Great customer service goes a long way.

they lost me as a customer - I can't access Netflix livestreaming anymore, because Sony made PS3 owners go through the Sony network, which is now inaccessible to PS3 owners but not to people who want to steal my credit card, that is - apparently, that database now resembles a private swimming hole hackers have been splashing around in for weeks.
diggid3Apr 30, 2011
Sony's goodwill gesture for me would be to send all their legal departments after the hackers' asses and set an example.
supersteveApr 30, 2011
Here have a cookie and that will make it all better. While bad guys are using your credit card information to buy "bad guy items".... or whatever bad guys buy.
generalhysteriaApr 30, 2011
We wil except, Halo... and we weren't even testing for that.

...Free Playstation 4s to all those affected by their piss poor security system...
That'd be sweet.
badguy001Apr 29, 2011
I will forget this whole hacking issue ever happened if Sony's "goodwill gesture" means downloading Dead Nations for free. If not, I will settle for any well-reviewed PSN game.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Good for them. Hopefully they've learned their lesson, it's far cheaper to pay a few security technicians to ensure your network security than it is to fix the problems and make good with those affected.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
