FTA: "The only way Sony can end this PSN outage on a positive note is to offer a new look for the PS Store. We know it wouldn’t be much but it would atleast suggest they are willing to start afresh and learn from their mistakes."
I'm sorry, but a "new look" doesn't do s**t for their creditability. A more secure infrastructure would. Remember kids, just because a hooker is wearing a new pair of clear stilettos doesn't mean she's disease free. Think about it. 0_0
RedLeader1987May 31, 2011
Yeah but are the new stilettos candy apple red with a matching thong?
stk198323May 31, 2011
The difference here is that most people doesn't know how the whole thing works. Seeing a new user interface will make a lot of people THINK they made adjustment underneath instead of throwing more eye-candy at us.
TomkinsMay 31, 2011
I wouldn't want to apologize to a guy who makes me a list with different ways I could apologize.
esc27May 31, 2011
They should take a few minutes at the beginning of their press conference to be serious for a moment and offer a genuine and heartfelt apology (no excuses like "everyone gets hacked") and outline all the steps taken to fix the problem, bring PSN back up, and protect all the users who might have been harmed.
Once that is out of the way, start the real show and provide their users with what we all really want price breaks and new games available NOW, not promises of games that might get released in 2 years.
diggorelseMay 31, 2011
PSN is only the latest in a long string of things SONY should be fixing.
GamrzzMay 31, 2011
Is it really their fault? Hackers started it and Sony had to fix it
kamill85May 31, 2011
Ummm, you mean like, spending millions of dollars on console DRM instead of hiring some good network admins to make sure OUR PERSONAL INFORMATION is secure, isn't SONY's fault at all?
If I make a store and print all customers credit card info on paper and put each page on the desk close to the exit, can I really put the blame on people who grab and steal them? Would I be totally excused because it was actually "securely" located inside my premises on my sight? I guess not.
When you ask people for personal information, names, addresses, CCs, you take all the blame if it leaks out.
GamrzzMay 31, 2011
ok ok ok, i get it, maybe they should have spent more money on PSN instead of making it un jailbreakable
wessideMay 31, 2011
I'd still like to see where you're getting your information. You say they dont spend money on network security, if you have access to their expenditures why don't you share it?Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

E3 being a game show, Sony should put some pillories on stage in which the criminals that hacked PSN are secured, and then provide the public with rotten tomatoes and eggs: VIP seats for those PSN customers that actually had some property stolen. It will be a festive, if smelly, show.
After the break, the criminals will be transfered outside, to the gallows, where they will be hung by the neck until death and will be left hanging and rotting during the show, to serve as an excellent example for all attending as to why hackers are scumbags.
stk198323May 31, 2011
Sorry but being on one of those seat, I would throw my rotten tomato to Sony officials and not the hackers.
They did something, illegal or not, but they were allowed to do it and Sony lied for a full week before telling us they lost our information... I didn't give my information to the hacker, I gave it to Sony thinking Sony would protect them.
This is the same s**t that if someone else kiss your girlfriend... you should be mad at HER and NOT at HIM because she was the one who owed you something (in both case: fidelity and confidence).
Should the hackers be punished? Yes of course. Should I be mad at them? No that would be to blame the wrong person, they owed me nothing but Sony sure did!

A PS3 price cut is something I would be pleased to see. Apart from that, announcing a cult PS2 classic is something which would be really great aswell.
xcwarriorJun 1, 2011
Not sure why this is dugg down, I agree totally. I was on the fence of buying a PS3, and this whole PSN fiasco did not help me at all. I don't really want to buy a 360 which will break soon after, but I can't really trust Sony's stuff now either.
PS3 at $200 is just low enough to actually be a valuable system. At its current price, it doesn't offer enough to interest me.

This is FAR from enough, Sony IS to blame. They could had taken a whole damn lot more steps to protect our security and nothing they will do will ever give me confidence in this company anymore. I will keep my PS3 ans still buy game but what it's time for PS4 and Xbox (whatever) I think for the first time I will not go with the Sony console.
Let's see what Sony did that they could had done better:
1- Didn't protect there database correctly (this has been talked in length before and ain't my domain so I won't explain in details)
2- Refuse to take the blame and say the whole world is now a bad place and people are ''bad''
3- Think that giving us basically a DEMO of PS+ with a small game would make us happy and act like nothing happened, this is taking us as some stupid retarded persons.
4- Lie about there ''repaired by date'' for psn store which was first supposed to be restored last week then changed to before the end of the month. Today is the end of the month so it was not repaired BEFORE the end of the month, at best (if it works today) it will be repaired AT the end of the month. And that's even IF it works, in Japan online play is still down.
Sorry but defending a company who only wish to rip you off and tries to blame other people for there mistake won't make things better the next time around. Remember that this all happened due to there stance on the GeoHot issue... which wasn't even illegal in itself (at least in most places it was not, we could debate on this one for a long time). If you really want to deal with an arrogant company that think they are better then anyone else (including you) then you are no better then a sheep: wow a shiny game, I love you Sony!!!!
nikowolfMay 31, 2011
"defending a company who only wish to rip you off"
wow you have some issues lol. get over it already. if you don't Sony then don't buy their products and stop crying.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
wessideMay 31, 2011
I would like documented proof of your points.
4. Everyone gets eta's wrong to restore services, that isn't lying.
3. They didn't HAVE to give any of us anything at all, they didn't hack themselves.
2. The world is a bad place, cyber crime is on a huge rise. It isn't possible for them to have any of the data they have, in a vault where no one can access it. There is always a way for people to bypass / get through any security systems. If you think you could do better, apply for the job, dont whine about it like a little bitch on the internet.
1. See #2. There is no such thing as impenitrable online security, get used to it.
This happened because a company trying to defend it's proprietary information. And a group of douchebags took that as an attack on an entire community. If GeoHot had have kept his information to himself for his own personal use, they wouldn't have likely gone after him, but he did release it to the public at large, which DID cause massive issues with hacking in games.
Is Sony a Saint of a company? Of course not, but that doesn't make this their failt.
But you're welcome to stop using the internet, and as such would never have any of these problems again regardless of which company you affiliate yourself with.
stk198323May 31, 2011
Did I say I was able to do better? No i never said it, it's not my domain. Do i know THEY could do better? Yes and everyone whose not a fanboy knows it.
It's a different thing when a company protects well there data and gets hacked, it's another when they are vulnerable to the first hacker that comes by with no advanced knowledge (there was plenty of articles pointing this out, not my own opinion). They still didn't patch vulnerabilities and they got hacked again and again on different sites with the same tools...
Concerning point 3: No they didn't had to, but they have to live with people perception of the company. Giving away a s**tty ''demo'' for PS+ and a what 5$ game? Yep that's not how you gain back customers. And if you really think they didn't NEEDED to give away stuff you're dumb! Sony wouldn't give you a 25 CENT rebate if they thought they could get the same sales without said rebate.
Point 4: It's still lying! Getting an ETA wrong is a blatant lie and that's it. If you have no idea then say you WANT to have it restored not that it WILL be restored. Accountability people! Stating an opinion is something, giving a date and missing it is another thing but whatever, it's the norm in the industry so we should take it from anyone right?
pureeviljesterMay 31, 2011
people are getting free games and free PS+ and identity protection insurance or w/e.
They already won me back. We don't pay monthly fees so not a lot of repaying is needed.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
stk198323May 31, 2011
Fee PS+ is a falacy. You can't play those games when your PS+ membership is expired, this is NOT a free thing, it's a demo to lure you into NEEDING to pay afterward stop saying it's a gift.
Identity protection insurance... does it cover fraud? Should not, that would be your ''personnal responsability'' for Sony fault.
Stop drinking the cool aid, Sony provides nothing but a free game the rest is a smoke screen so people are wowed into thinking they are actually giving something.
RedLeader1987May 31, 2011
The only thing Sony needs to apologize for is not having a secure enough network that hackers could get inside and steal information. It's not like they didn't have security measures in place at all. It's pretty annoying listening to a lot of people here acting all entitled like they could have done a better job, and getting a free game and PS+ isn't good enough of an apology for them. Newsflash, you're not that important.
bintoJun 1, 2011
As much as I don't like my information being opened up like this - the only thing sony really did that was wrong is not openly admit that our info wasn't secure. They can't really be blamed for not having 'enough' security. How much is enough? No system is ever secure if someone wants to get in. That's just a sad fact about digital technology. It's not a matter of if - it's a matter of when someone will get through.
They said a lot of lawyer bulls**t words to INFER that our s**t had gotten stolen, but they didn't come out and say it at first. They actually kept quiet for quite an unacceptable amount of time. In that time people could have taken action to prevent their own info from being maliciously used.
Instead, they decided to lie about it and risk peoples' personal info over their company stocks falling a few points.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
kennyg007May 31, 2011
Sony should provide a game of choice to every PS3 user that was hacked. ;-)
