I feel both franchises have their pros and cons, but it's a win win situation for gamers on both camps as competition is a great motivator.
gameondiggerDec 9, 2010
i agree. But Gt5 wan not worth the 5 years wait to be very honest.
norman619Dec 9, 2010
Can you elaborate?
glonqDec 9, 2010
- The UI (menus and screens) are poorly-designed and tedious to navigate. It ignores the past 5 years of UI/UX development.
- The game shipped "unfinished" and almost immediately required hundreds of megs of patches to fix stuff that a game with such a long dev cycle should have caught.
- The game boasts 1000 cars, but only 200 are fully rendered. The remaining 800 are partial models ported over from previous GT games.
- Atrocious load times!
- A damage model that doesn't work. You can actually bounce off of corners and other cars to your advantage, and only suffer minor cosmetic damage that doesn't affect your car.
- Poor compatibility with existing racing hardware (configuring dead zone on steering wheels, etc)
- The game was pimped as having 60FPS, but that's just "best case". It drops the frame rate when it needs to.
- Brain dead AI that knows how to follow the line well but is oblivious to you and to other cars. It's no better than super mario kart on snes.
I'm sure other GT5 owners can add more...
IGN's review summed it up perfectly: GT5 is a 10/10 racing simulator, but a 5/10 racing game. If your idea of fun is wanking to some of the best car and racing graphics of this generation, then GT5 is for you. If you want a fun racing game, look elsewhere.
ajajadudeDec 9, 2010
-The menus are fine.
-How many games these days don't require an update before it even hits the shelf?
-The only cars I care about, so far, are fantastic looking. Given they spent around 3 months per fully rendered car, I'm not surprised they only did a couple hundred cars.
-Load times were bad in the first few days, but apparently that had to do with the online portion of the game screwing with the offline portion. Too much going on online was interfering with single player. Load times are fine now.
-I can't speak to damage since I'm only half-way done with A-Spec. I'm beginning to wonder if either they overstated damage or greater damage comes as you progress through the game. Haven't cared enough to hunt for the reason.
-Again, can't speak to peripheral compatibility. I'm assuming it varies by manufacturer?
-Once again, framerate is nothing I can speak to since I can't say I notice it.
-I've noticed the AI getting a littler smarter as I've progressed, but I could be imagining things.
No game is going to be perfect. People will hate it, love it or fall somewhere inbetween. Personally, I like this game much more than previous versions, mainly because it's easier to earn credits towards new cars and part upgrades.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
almostadesignerDec 10, 2010
Is that the best you could do to defend the game. I haven't yet brought a copy, but that is one pretty weak comeback.
ajajadudeDec 10, 2010
I'm just pointing out the stupid arguments against it like the UI sucks. It's a racing game, not a design contest.
If you haven't played the game, how can you comment on whether or not it's good?Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
entroperDec 10, 2010
Saying the UI sucks is not a stupid argument. The UI is so terrible that actually gets in the way of the enjoyment of the game. And it really makes you wonder what the hell PD have been getting paid to do for the past 5 years.
I'll just give one example of the UI ruining the game experience: If you screw up in a license test by hitting a wall or cone or going off the track, you can hit "retry" and start again immediately. But if you actually cross the finish line with a bronze time or better, then you have to wait for an animation to play awarding you the bronze trophy (which you already have) and the animation of you sitting in your car back at the start line while your instructors chat at you. Then you have to exit this screen and go back to the menu, then start the license test again in order to get a better time. This is a completely ridiculous exercise that turns a challenge into an immense frustration, and there are examples of this all over the game.
turdfurgeson18Dec 10, 2010
I've logged hours on the game myself and completely agree with you. The rough edges are so obvious, it's clear that the development team had poor user experience staff (if any), and the load times are terrible.
Damn, though, the Lamborghini I bought sure does look and drive sweet.
brian1625Dec 10, 2010
Oh and annoying AI on the License Test, they'll randomly just bump into YOU and then it'll disqualify you. I'm sorry, they hit ME. Old AI, with more cars? Not the best idea.
I still love the game, I could have fun playing Time Trial on the Top Gear track all day.
If only I could put a big banana peel on the racing line.
norman619Dec 9, 2010
How are they competing? They aren't cross platform games.
glonqDec 9, 2010
As premium racing titles, both can be considered system-selling games. Both have the potential to sway new buyers to one console or the other. You can bet there's tons of european racing folk buying shiny new PS3's this month thanks to GT5.
norman619Dec 9, 2010
LOL!!! That's not competing with each other.
glonqDec 9, 2010
Sorry if you didn't comprehend what I was saying; I'll dumb it down a bit more:
When a game is bundled with a console, then it *can* (indirectly) be considered competition with games that are bundled on other consoles.
Here's another reason why exclusives on different consoles still compete with each other: people who own multiple consoles. Like many gamers, I own a PS3 and a 360. Let's say I've got $60 in my pocket and am looking for a racing game. I could buy any game on any console right now, which means they're all in competition with each other for my $$$.
coldmanDec 9, 2010
just ordered gt5...i'm interested about this create your own track business
glonqDec 9, 2010
I like it! But don't think "create your own track" in a Modnation Racers sense. It's more like "tweak a randomly-generated track". It's a neat alternative to bundled tracks.
brian1625Dec 10, 2010
I want the day when you can take a portion of say somewhere via say Google Maps and have the game render a track. Curious what's it's like to race around your neighborhood? Simple, Google Maps.
dcjoedogv2Dec 10, 2010
Think more, and I know this sounds weird, Sim City terrain generator, and less Trackmania for the create-a-track feature.
roy5000x2Dec 9, 2010
Let me make this easy. Do you own a PS3? Buy Gran Turismo 5. Do you own an Xbox 360? Buy Forza Motorsport 3. Do you own a Wii? Tough s**t.
prolikewhoaDec 9, 2010
They can get MarioKart. LOL
clippclopDec 9, 2010
Mario Kart 64 is superior to the wii version. The wii version is too slow.
duleewopperDec 10, 2010
Not True! Wii has Mario Kart!
eleminopDec 9, 2010
Ummm cars flip over in Forza 3
jo21Dec 10, 2010
for it crappy physics and simulation. which are the strong points of GT5, forza is arcadish
yurisakazakiDec 10, 2010
As someone who owns both GT5 and Forza 3, I can truly say Forza 3 is LEAGUES more realistic than GT5. Forza 2 was more realistic than previous GT games, and I was hoping GT would step up to the plate, but Turn 10 outplayed Polyphonal at every possible aspect they could.
jo21Dec 10, 2010
realistic = rocket cars at high speed? i think not, that what forza does something every reviewer have gotten GT5 is handling it leagues over any racing game.

notmanDec 10, 2010
WTF language are you speaking?
Have you even played Forza? Or are you basing all your opinions on s**t you've read on the internet? The Forza physics are pretty damn good, and as the original reply stated, you CAN roll over the car. Your car will also flip over forward, if you run straight into a barrier at full speed.
jo21Dec 12, 2010
too many gringos on digg, i played both, forza it's ARCADE, it even have rewind feature.
GT5 is much better, especialy in my logitech wheel.
clippclopDec 9, 2010
The awards comparison is stupid and obviously geared towards trying to sell you Forza.
the4thaggieDec 9, 2010
Let me break it down: GT5 won't RRoD your Playstation, and FM (or atleast FM2) will almost always RRoD the XB360. I read many reports on it doing this within a few weeks of release: http://www.1up.com/news/microsoft-denies-forza-2-causing
That being said, they are pretty fun games. I might actually buy a PS3 now.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

This was an interesting article: Head2Head: Gran Turismo 5 vs. Forza 3 Analysis

cubineDec 9, 2010
most of GT's "Awards and Records" are from the early days of the franchise whereas Forza's are all fairly recent.
ajajadudeDec 9, 2010
But even those rewards are meaningless since there wasn't anything like Forza out last year. Just like there wasn't anything to compare the GT series on the PS1 and 2 in previous years.
(Not to say there weren't any racing games out at all, just nothing like those two games).

f**king robot! This is not a real person!
Look at the comments from this profile. It's made entirely of "whoa", and "lol", and "yeah".
tf7426Dec 9, 2010
GT5 is a good game, but not not for one that was this long in the works. The developers should definately have spent more time on the AI.
heynow21Dec 10, 2010
What a stupid f**king "infograph". One of the bullet points on the GT side is "highest rated modern racing game" which pretty much negates all the other points (which are mostly bulls**t anyway).
thelostviking22Dec 10, 2010
Not gonna lie, I played GT5 today and I wasn't impressed. In Forza, I at least, get a real feel for the car's handling, acceleration, etc. (or I may just have a very good imagination), but when I played GT5, I felt like I was just watching somebody else play. The controls seemed slow to respond. Or is it just me?
brian1625Dec 10, 2010
It's probably just you. I've never heard that from anyone. I personally like GT5 more simply because of the steering wheel\6speed with a clutch as oppose to say ummm. Nothing? for the Xbox.
thomasjosephslaDec 10, 2010
Forza 3 been out for 52 weeks!!! Forza 4 in 2011 :)

Forza all the way.
0260Dec 10, 2010
Forza doesn't have 50 nissan skylines to pad the car list
notmanDec 10, 2010
Is a game REALLY better just because it has more cars? What a horrible way to rate a game. It could have 5,000,000 cars, but if they all look like s**t, then who cares?
seroevoDec 10, 2010
I'm guessing reverse/mirrored versions were included in those track counts, which is complete bulls**t.
Only original courses should count, not the inflated counts they use for marketing.
BorisSaysDec 10, 2010
Anyone had any luck being able to race the NASCAR cars - are they any good?
batterup714Dec 10, 2010
Now I feel stupid for getting NFS: Hot Pursuit.
skeeordyeDec 10, 2010
First off, this is not a discussion where an infographic is beneficial. The amount of cars and tracks reflects a very small portion of the game's quality, and I would argue to say GT has been behind the racing game curve because its so distracted with having licensed cars.
Now let me get to what I hate about both of these series (but I will just talk about GT because FM is basically a GT clone in my eyes). GT has always boasted "the most realistic racing game". How can they boast that if they just now, in 2010 with the 5th installment have just added the ability to overturn a car. This tells me they have been releasing half assed games with priority on brand names, if they have money left over, they may improve the game engine. Crashes are a big part of racing, and a realistic race would have dire consequences and some visual pleasure of a car careening into others or off a cliff of sorts.
Second pissed of discretion. The one thing they choose to realistically recreate are boring ass GT tracks. A flat track where if you are lucky there may be one more turn in this one than the last one. They lack substance, originality, and if you can create a track programatically by punching in the number of turns and the weather, it probably will not be fun. I seem to be running out of room here, but what racing game do I play you ask? Rallysport challenge 2 from the oroiginal xbox. Just find a copy an you will understand what I mean. It is hands down the best racing game ever made and I stilll play it regularly after many many years. Excuse my lack of elaboration and possible spelling mistakes as I cannot see what I am writing since this comment went past the visual limitations of digg
skeeordyeDec 10, 2010
Rallisport Challenge 2* I spelled it wrong. Granted it is focused on rally racing, but even the tarmac races in that game feel more authentic than any race in Gran Turismo, not to mention is is actually fun.
MyGamerConnectionsDec 13, 2010
Forza baby!
waiteenforJun 17, 2011
Both games have their pros and cons and GT for playstation and forza for xbox360 these two games are the leaders on their respective consoles for car racing. These two are definitely must have games if u have both ps3 and xbox 360.
