Valve broke Team Fortress 2 on Friday, and it's been semi-broken ever since, crashing constantly during play, breaking loadouts and causing validation problems.
So yes, Valve certainly can do wrong. Releasing a major update on a Friday so they can't push patches out over the weekend is pretty damn wrong.

They are geniuses at making the wrong right again. The freebies they give out when they do make an 'oopsies' seems to more than make up for the occasional errors.

TF2 has been garbage ever since it turned into Team Dressup 2. Now with 1000% more hats!
I don't play it anymore.

I think Valve can get away with this because
1) The games are already pretty cheap
2) They're on sale this weekend for 50% off individually, or 75% off if you buy all of them at once
3) If you don't want to buy the games, you don't have to, and you still get Portal 2 at the regularly scheduled release date. In fact, you might STILL get it early if enough other people play those games.
Personally, I wasn't interested in most of those games, but I did take the opportunity to pick up BIT.TRIP.BEAT on sale. I consider it a win-win for me, and I look forward to playing P2 on Tuesday.

what stunt? Last i check the release date was April 19, 2011. Any date earlier then that would be good will by Valve. You can be a douche by not buying the package but you can't stop those who wants to do so to get it earlier!

Valve kicks ass!!
thenakedrobberApr 17, 2011
Yeah I like valve, but this is just marketing BS. They're not releasing it early, they're releasing it late if people don't buy enough other games.
that being said I love valve, we just compared steam vs gamesforwindows and valve kicked more ass than a pimp on speed. http://www.nakedrobber.com/2011/04/steam-vs-gamesforwindows/

Really? I don't see the release date being pushed back beyond the release date of Tuesday that was announced months ago...Nor do I see the console versions having a release date earlier than Tuesday. Plenty of valid criticisms for their marketing ploy, but this is just finding an excuse the whine.
thenakedrobberApr 18, 2011
'An excuse to whine'. Isn't that the internet's real name? You're right though. The game will be launched when they want, and even though it's just marketing it's hard to complain about the chance for playing a game as early as possible!

Well Orange Box on PS3 was wrong.

No matter what happens, Valve will always be my favorite dev. They may have suckered me into all these hypes, but I forgive them. It's their post-launch game support that matters and they haven't failed me yet.

Valve has done plenty wrong with several years and still no info on Episode 3 when it should have been released years ago. Although them being valve, I kinda expect them to make up for this ridiculous wait.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

"Observe that for the programmer, as for the chef, the urgency of the patron may govern the scheduled completion of the task, but it cannot govern the actual completion. An omelet, promised in two minutes, may appear to be progressing nicely. But when it has not set in two minutes, the customer has two choices -- wait or eat it raw. Software customers have had the same choices. The cook has another choice; he can turn up the heat. The result is often an omelet nothing can save -- burned in one part, raw in another." - Mythical Man-Month

I understand things take time, but they made a big deal out of going episodic and then decided give up on that and not give out any news at all on episode 3 for several years after it should have been released. If it had came out on time and it was 2-3 years later I wouldn't be complaining about it. Unfortunately it didn't come out on time, its been several years since it should have, and there is no info on the game what so ever (meaning it could still be several years away)

And I think their only explanation for this better be that they changed their mind and decided to make something much more significant /awesome then a 4-8 hour 3rd episode
