At reference speeds, the 7950 barely outclasses the GTX 580. But the card is an overclocking beast. Clock speeds can be pushed all the way past even 7970 levels, and offers an instant 25-30% bump in performance, even exceeding the stock 7970, while still staying cooler than the GTX 580. At $449, it's a much better deal than the GTX 580, but being a next generation card i expected it to be cheaper for the performance on offer. Anybody planning to purchase a 7000 series card, i seriously would advise you to wait till Nvidia launches their next gen Kepler cards. There should be price cuts at both camps once they do.

Why is AMD still around?
anjuFeb 1, 2012
Mostly because they're kicking Intel's ass again with their latest Opterons.

People actually prefer Opteron to Xeon?
And we all know how well Bulldozer is doing.
anjuFeb 1, 2012
It depends on your load. Opterons works great for heavily threaded workload like virtualization. It's absolutely horrendous if you're doing pure integer computation though.
