I hope this doesn't happen. EA should make a counterbid.

EA lost more than 400 million dollars last year. I don't think they're in the position to make a counterbid. Besides, EA isn't what it once was. They've already laid off tons of people, combined studios, and rearranged pretty much everything to keep from bleeding out.
Just look at Dead Space 2 ($60 or more in cost for 8 hours of linear singleplayer and crappy multiplayer..you're literally paying them more than $10 an hour to play the game), it's a good game but plenty of bugs and no fixes after weeks. And they're DLC is ridiculous. They basically have upwards of $70 worth of DLC, which is pretty much just useless suit/weapon packs for $5 a pop that don't offer anything but to make your character look different. And this isn't the only game EA has had problems with lately.
EA is desperate to make money, so there's going to be some cutbacks and shortchanges for a long time to come. They'd be lucky if their entire lifetime sales of dead space 2 broke even on their losses. EA just wants your money now. Not to mention that EA doesn't really make good multiplayer games.

If this turns out to be true, I hope Activision doesn't run the franchise down the drain.
nathratFeb 11, 2011
That's what they do. I mean c'mon, a new Call of Duty game every single year. They want quantity not quality.
esornosoFeb 11, 2011
It's all about the $$$.
rufiohoFeb 11, 2011
sad but true :(

I hope they bring RDR to the PC though, don't see that happening with Take 2.

I hope this turns out to be true Activision is awesome
ryanwbFeb 11, 2011
What is the "true Activision"? The one that pumped out 28 versions of Guitar Hero in a year that flooded the market and ruined the franchise?
piddlydFeb 11, 2011
You know, my first thought was, "Well - there is another franchise that they'll run into the ground"... but, isn't GTA pretty 2005, already, anyhow? At least they didn't get GTA when it was at the top of its game...
satanforgivemeFeb 11, 2011
Rockstar put out Red Dead Redemption last year, and it was one of the highest rated games of the year. GTA is still one hell of a franchise. the add-ons for GTA4 were some of the best additional game content of its time. as long as Take 2 is in control Rockstar will continue to be one of the leaders in game development.
piddlydFeb 11, 2011
Red Dead Redemption is NOT GTA. GTA is past its prime. GTA IV was just too much of the same thing and I didn't finish it, and I'm not sure any of my circle of gaming friends finished it. I haven't even followed the franchise since, and none of the gamers I know have had any excitement about GTA. The ALSO dying franchise of rhythm/instrument games arguably stole GTAs thunder. If you're arguing that the ENGINE still has life and that Rockstar could do better things with that engine than Activision, I'll give you that much, though.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
rickybennettFeb 12, 2011
gta is the best game ever made and i finished the game im working on the achievements now
piddlydFeb 12, 2011
*sigh*... I wish I could blame rickybennett on Digg V4.0...
eeldarbFeb 11, 2011
Activision commits to a new GTA game every year, then abruptly cancels the series in approximately five years after people become bored with it for some reason.

Please no.
chrisramos1337Feb 11, 2011
Activision should stay out of take twos way. their games are so much better quality wise than activison

Activision: Killing games one franchise at a time.
canyoudiggitbrothaFeb 11, 2011
This may be the end of a great game...
synnFeb 11, 2011
GTA V - Pay $60 for the game, pay $20 a piece to unlock the other two sections of Liberty City instead of just playing the main story.
W01F360Feb 11, 2011
There are also rumors that T2 was pushing Rockstar to have GTA ready for release before the end of 2011 Q4... if that is true and this is why activision is making the hostile bid then wtf... this had better not ruin the GTA series or I will grab my pitchfork and torch and march up on their HQ!!!
effenFeb 11, 2011
Well, we'll get a Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption every year. Too bad they'll suck so bad nobody will play them after a few years.
dsmxFeb 11, 2011
Activision are in a precarious position they have CoD and anything blizzard releases if blizzard jump ship they will only have COD supporting the company. Eventually people will get fed up with CoD and that will be the end of Activsion but hey we can live in hope.
hurrayforschoolFeb 11, 2011
As someone who has played the crap out of GTA 3, Vice City, San Andreas, GTA 4, and Red Dead Redemption, I hope that Rockstar retains control over their products, regardless of who publishes them.
pinskiaFeb 11, 2011
Wait this is after nixing guitar Hero? I think Activision should look more into what they just did rather than buying more companies.
wossnamexFeb 11, 2011
It doesn't matter who owns who. You can't own people, and the talent will always find places where they can make great games.
daisycutterzFeb 12, 2011
Actavision is desperately searching for new IPs to run into the ground. When was the last time an Actavison owned studio created a new IP anyways?
hawveeFeb 12, 2011
Grand Theft Auto V: Legends of Liberty City III: Ramirez's Revenge
acdcfanbillFeb 12, 2011
not that i have a stellar opinion of take 2 lately, but this would certainly add tarnish to their reputation.
str3amaFeb 12, 2011
nooooooo...Activision would ruin it..it would become like true crimes streets of LA ..zombies and dragons for no reason
assassyn360Feb 15, 2011
The new EA.
