2012? f**k. I want a time machine :(

you could try freezing yourself like South Park's Cartman, waiting for the Nintendo Wii... Just remember to freeze yourself with otter repellent.

I've heard a lot of people talk about System Shock 3, I want to play it. Do I need to play the first 2 before I play SS3?
effoffpunkAug 15, 2010
This doesn't even make sense in response to "so system shock 3 by 2014"

I haven't played the first SS, but SS2 is well worth the play, even as a standalone.
antdudeAug 15, 2010
I couldn't get into SS1, but I loved SS2!
clonedAug 16, 2010
Why am I being buried? It was an honest question.
denizen42Aug 16, 2010
You should play SS2, it's a gem.
mourneAug 16, 2010
You MUST play SS2. SS1 was... eh meh. But SS2 is one of the best games ever made, even by today's standards. There are a couple high res upgrade packs as well, that make the game a little more believable by today's standards.

Been a while. I should replay this soon too. All of the LGS games were awesome. Thief 1 and 2 had awesome stories and gameplay. Thief 3 made me vomit, since it was a crappy dumbed down version of the games ported from the xbox =(.
poisonborzAug 16, 2010
SS2 is one of the best FPS RPG-s ever made (maybe the first one, even).
If you loved Deus Ex, you'll love SS2.
One hint: I was excited for BioShock, but seeing how they dumbed down the gameplay from SS2, I was hugely disappointed.
azrobotoAug 15, 2010
Bioshock: And Beyond, in 2017. Gotta stick with Irrational's 5 year dev cycle.

Why not just link to the original interview done by eurogamer here: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2010-08-12-irrationals-ken-levine-interview

because his site would never get hits if he did that.

bioshock 2 sucked camel balls

“But we felt we had said what we wanted to say about Rapture, about those kind of environments and that kind of feel."
This is reassuring.
devsingh1359Aug 15, 2010
Bioshock Infinite looks way more interesting anyway
particleman420Aug 15, 2010
B2 wasnt that bad. it wasnt as good as the first, but it could have been worse
zarokimaAug 16, 2010
Honestly I found it an insult to the first one. s**t was retconned SO f**king hard, and the plot didn't make much sense. If you're one of those people who only care about the action, it's passable, but I can't find myself recommending it to anyone. If you haven't played the first one, you'll miss a bunch of stuff and the first one will likely be ruined for you; if you have played the first one, you should just play it again instead.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
chrisflyAug 16, 2010
the only problem i had with it was that it sort of followed the same idea as the first one. Like, your doing all this stuff and then BAM surprise twist. (aka would you kindly)
they basically tried to do the same in b2, but at one point you sort of knew it was coming. so knowing a surprise is coming isnt a surprise.
homercles337Aug 16, 2010
So its all about screens? Let me guess, you play consoles exclusively?
1b2aAug 16, 2010
It's okay. B2 attracted the pedo crowd more than anything else.
1b2aAug 16, 2010
I thought my joke was hilarious =(
rikushixAug 16, 2010
I felt Bioshock 2 was a fantastic game.
solisAug 16, 2010
I'm sorry about that.
mamboboyAug 16, 2010
It would have been good for a DLC, but was disappointing as a sequel. But it's all about $$$ though I guess...
psa21Aug 16, 2010
I played 30 minutes into it and lost interest. It just felt like more of the same.
crytekemployee3Aug 15, 2010
what he's saying is that the publisher wanted a Bio$hock $equel out, and since Irrational needed time to plan out its creative side, the publi$her handed it out to a different team who took a $hit all over it. f**k 2k Marine. I hope they get into a serious bus accident.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Am i the only one that noticed that the interview was done in Eurogamer but vgcharts is the one dugg here. How many diggers are on vgcharts payroll?
nixpix66Aug 16, 2010
I liked bioshock 2. It was a s**t load more fun to play then the first, had more guns, more options, more places to explore, and more enemies. The only problem was that it was lacking the mystery and erroneous that made the first game so great. So yes, it wasn't as good as the first for that reason, but it was A LOT of fun to play. I recommend at least checking it out.
nixpix66Aug 16, 2010
wtf is erroneus?

cglassAug 16, 2010
Yeah that nixpix66 is a bad typer, good catch
nixpix66Aug 18, 2010
@cyglass...
You do realize, I, Nixpix66, corrected my own mistake?
rikushixAug 16, 2010
I have to agree. I thought the game was much better balanced than the first.
In the first game you just got to a point where you could coast with electrobolt and the wrench. And the tonics were very lopsided. In the second game, the weapons were much more responsive and had way better balance, and every tonic was a choice. Not to mention defending the little sisters/fighting the big sisters and big daddies.
And the ending was fantastic.
But it didn't capture the "Rapture feel" of Bioshock.
Closed AccountAug 16, 2010
"But it didn't capture the "Rapture feel" of Bioshock."
Pretty much sums it up. Though should never have had another team create the sequel. BS2 was good, but not great. It wont be remembered like BS1, which was still unique and had some fantastic atmosphere.
charlotte_webAug 17, 2010
I didn't play all the way through B2 (got bored with it, I guess). It just didn't have a lot of the atmosphere and tension of the first game. Case in point... early in the first game, you're wandering around, trying to make sense of the place. You hear a woman singing, not too far away... then you look and see the shadow of the woman standing over the stroller. Very creepy. There are literally dozens of atmospheric moments like that in Bioshock 1.
I honestly can't recall a single moment from B2 that stands out like that. In fact, B2 could have very well been a fan-made expansion. Similar locations, many of the same enemies, and no "moments". It's just more run-and-gun in the established Rapture style.
decoy9697Aug 16, 2010
The spelling of 'eeriness' was
-SUNGLASSES-
erroneous.
tekjesterAug 16, 2010
The second game was better from a pure game creation standpoint. But because everything was the exact same as its younger brother, it doesn't give that same awe and originality as the first, and it completely lacks the shock factor and ambiance. Look forward to the sequel to keep and improve the gameplay, but bring a new environment and new experience.
cranAug 16, 2010
Bioshock 2 may have technically been a competent successor to the first, but it had nowhere near its heart and soul. Bioshock was a masterpiece. Bioshock 2 was a sequel.
gfoderaAug 16, 2010
BOOM HEADSHOT!
couldn't agree more.
pepe2004Aug 16, 2010
Wow, I'm so exited, Rage in 2011 and Bioshock 3 in 2012. Oh, and I will have sex on 2015.Oh, I'm so happy with waiting ^.^
xiamgambitxAug 16, 2010
Wtf?
davethe1stAug 16, 2010
Bad news, sex has been pushed back for you until Q4 2029
cvesperAug 16, 2010
I'm exited too!
boonedogg1Aug 16, 2010
I think they had to go ahead and cancel sex for you. To much competition in the next few years.
homercles337Aug 16, 2010
If Irrational did the sequel im certain there would not have been the key binding bug that ruined the game for many PC gamers. 2k are console hacks and should never develop games for PCs ever again.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
therealjedipunkAug 16, 2010
I felt so bad about pirating BS1 I bought BS2 and I was not disappointed. :D
psypher1Aug 16, 2010
That's very honest.
nraphaelAug 16, 2010
why should I expect the next bioshock to be good when bioshock 2 sucked?
jingocatAug 16, 2010
uhhh...because the original team is doing it. That's the whole point.
nraphaelAug 16, 2010
but the second one was rubbish. I think they've lost their mojo.
nick041Aug 16, 2010
I still see Bomberman.
alexweiskerAug 16, 2010
IMO BS1 for story BS2 for gameplay
misterteenwolfAug 16, 2010
no clever comment from me but very much looking forward to bioshock infinite :-)
themadmuleAug 16, 2010
I dugg you up at first, but then saw your username.
scottlawsonbcAug 16, 2010
I liked Bioshock 2, but I was blown away by the introduction to the setting that was in the first one. I don't really know what they could have done to improve the second one, it was simply that that shock and awe wasn't there and all that remained was a solid shooter.
Can't wait for Bioshock infinite
psypher1Aug 16, 2010
Irrational......please promise me that System Shock 3 "is" or "will" be in the works, I IMPLORE YOU PLEASE!!!! If anyone here even has an idea of how good that game was I can't even imagine how good it would be if SS3 was in the works! Well you guys have time and I know it's going to take some imagination and creativity and money to get us this, so for those who support Irrational lets let them know that we have their back and we love their work! We commend you highly!!!
spongya77Aug 16, 2010
They should just do a remake of SS 1 and 2, and I'd be happy for years.
psypher1Aug 17, 2010
Ehh! I'm tired of remakes and prequels! We need to start seeing some creativity come back into the wood works again, just my feelin on it!
balancedAug 16, 2010
Does Irrational even own the IP to do so?
psypher1Aug 17, 2010
No, I think EA bought it several years ago which bothered a lot of people, but there's no sign that they are going to to bastardized it especially when you observe the consensus of gamers who would revolt against them!!
Closed AccountAug 16, 2010
Bioshock 2 wasn't a sequel, it was a glorified expansion pack. As long as gamers keep shilling out the $$ for these "sequels", game developers are going to have little to no motivation to innovate and give us things that we haven't seen before. It's been a long time since a game made me say "WOW"...
spongya77Aug 16, 2010
...because they are irrational?
chrisflyAug 16, 2010
would you kindly digg this.
provostengAug 17, 2010
A man chooses! A slave obeys! OBEY!
Damn, that was a great scene.
solisAug 16, 2010
Liking Bioshock 2 is akin to wanting to be a Nazi. Ok, that was harsh. You just love cash whores and have no respect for gaming as mature medium if you'd dare give money to that disgusting money grabbing sequel.
Ahh, people disgust me sometimes.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

solisAug 16, 2010
Fair enough! Believe me, far far from a Kotick fan.
mamboboyAug 16, 2010
For the love of God I hope the Plasmids are gone. Or at least for the most part. You want to make a scary game, then you put make the hero the underdog - System Shock 2 is a perfect example - I can still remember being scared s**t-less in the game, preparing myself to leave a certain room because I could hear the zombies grunts outside and all I had was a wrench and a gun with one shot left. No game has ever had that effect on me. Bioshock totally flipped that, and gave you Plasmids and plenty of ammo pretty much throughout the entire game, you couple that with the same repetitive enemies, no real bosses and it makes a repetitive run-of-the-mill shooter.
Bioshock 2 should have always been a DLC, but of course it's all about money these days.
charlotte_webAug 17, 2010
Keep in mind that the franchise is called BIOSHOCK... there's going to be genetic splicing going on.
