I'm looking forward to 3D gaming actually... I just hope we don't need glasses for them or else that would ruin it... I'm glad Nintendo took a turn away from the glasses...

I'm sure if you patented a way of doing that, showing 3D to a large group of people without glasses, you would be very rich indeed.

Yes glasses would really ruin our image as gamers.

I'd never even considered the ramifications of 3D on health, but it's certainly something to take into account. Pretty good article, I digg it.

I watched Step Up in 3d the other day, with in 2 mins i had a headache and was starting to get nauseous after about 10 mins. The motion was so fast i could see lines, and the heavy motion just gave me more of a headache. I almost left and asked for a refund. I watched most of it without glasses after i got the headache. If i had to play a game in 3d i would prolly black out after an hour or so. The problem with games and 3d is that developers will make a game for regular play and then port it for 3d which will cause tons of depth problems and prolly cause seizures.

Racing games in 3D are fun as hell, but first person shooters are waaaay more difficult in 3D.

One thing I think they failed to mention in this article is the fixed camera problem. In current 3D movies, the user must always use the POV the camera recorded...everything is fine until you move your head. I think that's what causes alot of people's sickness and discomfort. They see this scene in 3D, their brain processing the position of it all, but when their head moves (even slightly) the brain expects the scene's 3 dimensional objects to adjust in a certain way, but it doesn't. This will be hard to overcome in movies, but in games, all you need to do is have a camera system like Kinect or Eye Toy adjust for head movement. Hell, even the 3DS should theoretically be capable with it's front facing camera, although extra processing and lack of libraries will be the main hindrance.

As somebody who got to play World of Warcraft in 3d at Blizzcon in the Nvidia booth I can tell you that its really just a novelty. At first you're like oh that's so cool look at the tree's poping out, but then it soon becomes distracting and definitely puts more strain on your eyes than playing normally would. If you play long sessions of games 5+ hours this is just not going to fly.
