Good to know. I sometimes feel like everything is becoming an fps or action game nowadays.
vagrantwadeAug 3, 2010
Didn't a real time strategy game win multiple GOTY awards a couple years ago? Sins of a Solar Empire or whatever.
karlyguyAug 4, 2010
that was a lame game, not worth playing again
manowarxAug 4, 2010
I love that game, kept playing it up until I got into sc2 beta :)
nmanguyAug 3, 2010
But most FPS's are becoming RPG's.
frisbinatorAug 4, 2010
Actually there was almost a Starcraft RTS made: The Ghost of Starcraft. It looked HORRIBLE!
spacemanspiff22Aug 4, 2010
Just in case you come back and wonder why you were downvoted into oblivion:
1. It was called Starcraft: Ghost
2. It wasn't an RTS (which would be real time strategy), it was a third person action game
3. We have no way of knowing if it would have been good or not but Blizzard has never disappointed before. Most people were just pissed because it wasn't SC2.
userpasswordAug 4, 2010
bwahahah.. "The ghost of starcraft"
my.. are you uninformed.

League of Legends = amazing RTS
sarcasteakAug 4, 2010
This game beats the crap out of any DoTa like game they could make on SC2.
krazycuredAug 4, 2010
Damn straight love that game. Malzahar FTW. Krazycure on LOL, add me suckas! We skype com and have a blast.

This is my new obsession. I haven't been much of a gamer for a long time, but for some reason I have a weakness for destroying some zerg.

Best RTS I've ever played. Its incredible!
fuzi0ndetAug 3, 2010
This game came out at the perfect time. I've been burnt out on the FPS genre for a while. This will offer a nice change of pace so that I can come back to enjoying FPS games in the future.
goweigusAug 3, 2010
wait until they start throwing out FPS games via starcraft 2 multiplayer/editor
vagrantwadeAug 4, 2010
Not sure why you got dugg down, there are already similar custom maps in development. Hell there is even a Pokemon map that looks very similar to how the handheld games look.
seanwookieAug 3, 2010
Kinda wish it wasn't 10 dollars more though.
kingmanicAug 3, 2010
It's the same numeric price as it's predecessor and adjusted for inflation it's cheaper. It's not $10 more; other PC games are just $10 less than they used to be.

Full price? I haven't paid more than $20 for a game in years.

I have to work a full day to bring home $60. As a full-time student, $60 for a game is quite the investment.
gibbonsbeardAug 4, 2010
then don't buy games if 10 dollars if the difference between affording and not affording games
spacemanspiff22Aug 4, 2010
PC games have much more variable pricing than console games for a lot of reasons, mostly licensing and development costs, and more flexible avenues of distribution. Not only is it far more likely for the $60 pc game to remain rare, its incredibly easy to find < 6 month old pc games for $20-30 (just not this one).
stormwernAug 3, 2010
Civilization II cost $70 in 1996. (worth it)
shawkabAug 3, 2010
I get all my games 10 bucks cheaper.. there is always one place online that has the game cheaper, print out the page, bring it to a local store and tell them you want a price match.. You will get it..
I do it all the time with Steam games, just because I want the box. This works best at walmarts because you are guaranteed to get some retard behind the counter who will do it without a hassle..
persiyanAug 3, 2010
Are you suggesting it is likely there to be a retarded behind the counter at Walmart?! Well no matter what you're suggesting I dugg you down for that...Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
cheesypoofsAug 3, 2010
Who says they are retarded, perhaps they just don't care about the price match policy because they want to help a brother out.
shawkabAug 4, 2010
If you work in the electronic department at a walmart, you're guaranteed to know nothing about electronics, nor would you care enough to learn anything about electronics, not to mention they hate their jobs too much to argue the price match..

Uhh, you are completely missing the point, I mean we got your point, however, my point was that because someone doesn't care or know about something it doesn't make them retards or morons, it does make you a douche for call them so though, regardless if you actually meant what you said and it wasn't just your way of talking, which would make you an obnoxious douche if so.
shawkabAug 4, 2010
Are you actually taking things THAT seriously on the internet?
Whenever your little sister, brother, nephew or whatever says, "that's retarded," or, "that's gay.." do you go into a long explanation of what retarded means too? Me calling someone a retard online is the same as you calling someone a douche online, get over yourself and take off your internet guru panties you f**kin scrubComment is buried, click here to see the rest.
thufirrhawatAug 4, 2010
I don't mind paying 60 bucks for a good game but considering how long this game has been in development and you only get to play 1 race's campaign, it seems a kind of incomplete to me.
I'm sure it's an awesome game and most of the feedback I've seen so far has been great. Still, knowing that I'm going to have to purchase two expansion packs to get the full Starcraft 2 experience I'll probably wait a bit to get it at a reduced some time in the future.
kerrigoreAug 4, 2010
Except that it still has about the same amount of content as the original Starcraft, if not more. So how is it any more incomplete than Starcraft was? It's not like Starcraft finished the story, nor did brood war. So Starcraft II is part of the story, to be continued in an expansion. Except, instead of making three different campaigns for each race, they made one really long one for each. Which, to me, makes more sense from a narrative perspective.
thufirrhawatAug 4, 2010
To me, it is incomplete because I can't play the campaign for all the races. I would prefer to be able to play 3 different campaigns and then buy the additional story-line content in the expansions. The end result is the same, I just prefer a different path to get there.
I'm not complaining, just wish they had a release plan that was more inline with my style.
goaliestr1Aug 3, 2010
in other news... water is wet.
helaomAug 4, 2010
What??? When did this happen? I did not get the memo...
tenarethAug 3, 2010
Digital download is so nice, just wish they would have offered it via Steam. (Yeah, Yeah, they are trying to build their own on Battle.net)
grammerpantsAug 3, 2010
I don't get this, how would it being on steam make it better, or easier for that matter? I don't want everything on steam, be nice if they had some real competition for a change. Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
antoniusmaximusAug 3, 2010
Ahhh... I can see myself basking in the glow of competition with five different game platforms bloating my PC in the near-future. Steam, GFWL, Battle.net, etc etc... Let those idle CPU cycles be no more!
tenarethAug 3, 2010
Unless they all provide most games, I agree with Antonius, I don't want a bunch of different game libraries. Blizzard doesn't have a great track record for their network, I'd much prefer Valve be holding my CD Key information than Blizzard.
vagrantwadeAug 3, 2010
You don't think the company holding the largest server cluster for an online game(WoW) knows how to manage servers? That's just silly.
milkmageAug 3, 2010
@Tenareth
huh? WoW is probably THE largest game infrastucture deployment in the world. Site incidents - where they LOST user info (aside from the weeks following the first WoW)

vagrantwadeAug 3, 2010
Why do you care if it was on steam or not? Can't you just add SC2 as a game application in your steam client for the shortcut regardless? What exactly would the advantage of steam be? I don't know about you but I had the game downloaded and installed off battle.net a week before the game came out. Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

zardayAug 4, 2010
Did you have P2P on? They don't limit your upload speed correctly and you end up choking your own line.
nova437Aug 4, 2010
Nope. I was on a 100mbps down (maybe more that's my Ethernet card's max) and 30mbps up. Campus connection.
kerrigoreAug 4, 2010
@Nova436
Your ethernet isn't actually going to get anywhere near its theoretical 100mbps limit in practice. Just sayin'.
nova437Aug 4, 2010
I'm aware of that. My only point is that clearly my end is not the bottleneck here. I tried from both my home on a 10mbps and the campus nearby with the 100mbps connection. Both said 31-32 hours.
That would imply that the bandwidth on my end is not the problem.
toxicityjAug 4, 2010
Battle.net isn't like steam at all. Battle.net's system for keeping track of your purchased games is entirely browser-based. Just go to battle.net and you download a small, temporary downloader that downloads the entire game. Then the game sits on your computer, never referencing or depending on the downloader again. Whereas with steam I need to keep A separate program running on my computer to play any of my purchased games (which doesn't bother me at all, but they're two different systems)Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Starcraft 2 is a flop in Korea lol
vagrantwadeAug 4, 2010
Hoping that was some form of sarcasm.
arvickheroAug 4, 2010
Unlucky for you, it isn't. Blizzard made a ton of blunders in Korea and right now there is somewhat of a anti-SC2/Blizzard sentiment lol
rodalliAug 4, 2010
To make things worse, they want to start demanding royalties from Korea's e-sports (competitive gaming) television networks to televise StarCraft 2 tournaments.
Oh, and no LAN play makes competitive gaming kind of pointless.
Way to take care of your most enthusiastic, most loyal customers, Blizzard.
Remember when Blizzard was anti-bulls**t? WTF happened to this company?
vagrantwadeAug 4, 2010
Uh...I guarantee the sales figures from S Korea are high. Have you seen the launch parties they had there? Looked like the Pope was handing out free hand jobs.
disastormAug 4, 2010
To be fair most of the retarded stuff Blizzard is doing is probably actually Activision. I heard rumors that Blizzard agreed with the community with most of the bnet2.0 problems. In any case, the whole "sc2 failed in korea" is most likely a huge exageration. The % of people playing sc2 in lan centers is almost half the amount of people playing bw. Of course thats less, but for a just released game that has no official leagues yet, that sounds to be a fair number, once OSL2 comes out and leagues are formed, it will probably increase.
mynscAug 5, 2010
@Rodalli
You do know they're planning a special version for the pro tournaments that will include LAN, right ?
arvickheroAug 5, 2010
I'm not sure, but I think that was just an unsubstantiated rumor that was going on. There was that "big event" at the Korean Air hangar, and there were rumors of an OS2L and Pro Version being announced there, but all we got was a stupid plane w/ SC2 on it...
rodalliAug 6, 2010
Yes, Msync, I knew they were coming out with a tournament version but decided to harp on it anyway.
Sarcasm tag unnecessary.
misterohAug 4, 2010
I'm actually in Seoul now and have been for two weeks now.
Sales have been rather tepid, apparently.

johnomazzAug 3, 2010

safman89Aug 3, 2010
I was more or less talking about younger fans who praise cod or halo to be the best game ever who's first online experience was on these 2 games
vagrantwadeAug 3, 2010
Didn't COD MW2 sell 8 million in the first week? Yea SC2 isn't touching that.
wikinerdAug 3, 2010
@vagrantwade
Maybe you forgot that most of the MW2 sales came from consoles... MW2 PC sales only reached 170,000 during the first month. 1 million > 170,000.
vagrantwadeAug 4, 2010
Why would you think I forgot that? He said COD/Halo Fanboys. COD/Halo fanboys are playing them on the console. So why would COD fanboys find it impressive to begin with when MW2 broke records for sales in any media in existence. I don't own the game, but facts are facts are facts.
fitslugAug 3, 2010
big f**king surprise there
tiitarAug 3, 2010
This doesn't seem to include South Korea, though to be fair, it's hard to say they had any "sales" there due to the way it was offered. I'd be interested in how many played the game from there.
For those who don't know, access to the game is bought via timecards rather than a single package that gives you everything. Also, anyone with a World of Warcraft subscription gets Starcraft 2 for free as long as they still subscribe.
stormwernAug 3, 2010
They can still buy the normal version if they want to.
d4rthv4derAug 4, 2010
Blizzard is getting way too greedy lately and I can't believe how much they are screwing the South Koreans over. Especially since they are one their biggest market and most hard core fans. I would never ever a subscription to a game that is ridiculous.

bugmenot2Aug 3, 2010
Not true. StarCraft has sold over 12 million units to date. I'd say only a third of those at most came from South Korea.
vagrantwadeAug 3, 2010
Warcraft is Blizzard's #1 selling franchise easily. They made around 10 million off WC3 alone. And WC2 was awesome on battle.net.
gojirraAug 3, 2010
@vagrantwade Warcraft is the most popular FRANCHISE maybe, due to the fact that there are so many games, including Blizzard's most popular game WoW. I was talking about Starcraft vs Warcraft on the RTS front, since that's what the article is about. Although, I wouldn't be surprised if SC2 outsold even WoW at some point in the near future.
vagrantwadeAug 3, 2010
I am pretty sure at the moment, Warcraft 1/2/3/3FT have outsold SC1/2 sales. Though that will obviously change in a few months.
Closed AccountAug 4, 2010
No way will SC2 sales ever beat WoW sales, especially not anytime soon.
helaomAug 4, 2010
I believe I read this somewhere: Blizzard won't be releasing another warcraft rts, anything warcraft will be released in mmo form through WoW. Don't quote me, I just think I read it somewhere.
inspectorkempAug 3, 2010
Too bad the core gameplay is nearly identical to the original. Not that it's a bad game, I just wished they had done more than re-create the same game with a prettier face. Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
dirtyfriesAug 3, 2010
I refer you to the travesty that is Command and Conquer 4.
Almost everyone wanted an updated Starcraft, and that's what was delivered. I'm happy.
inspectorkempAug 4, 2010
You could try playing an RTS that uses some new ideas. I'll refer you to Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance. I'm sure I'll get dug down for this but I enjoy games that add something to the genre. Starcraft is status quo and Starcraft 2 is no different. Why would I want to pay for the same game I bought 11 years ago plus another $10 for less campaign and no LAN? I'm sure you will all have fun playing your game but it's not for me.
Proceed with the thumbs down.
kerrigoreAug 4, 2010
You don't need to improve much on near-perfection. I'm actually impressed on how much they were able to improve and tweak it while still staying true to the original. The only thing I find kind of odd is how many units show up in the campaign but not in the multiplayer.
thenazzAug 3, 2010
I really wanted to boycott Blizzard for their Battle.net crap... unfortunately I wanted to play the new StarCraft 2 more. StarCraft 2 is exactly what I wanted... updated graphics and animations, familiar gameplay and controls, some new units plus a good storyline. Anything else added or taken away would have changed the feel of StarCraft to the point where it didn't really feel like the same game.
I am not dissapoint.
I hope the new Diablo3 lives up to the series as well.
johnomazzAug 3, 2010
Agreed. I am giong to install it tonight. I heard of all the battle.net issues and agree with most of them. I have a feeling blizz is going to cave on them.

johnomazzAug 5, 2010
Actually, I did download it off bittorrent and cracked it. I wanted to make sure the game worth my money. Plus since I needed to buy a video card, I decided to verify it was worth it too. A couple days later, I bought the game and a video card. Even now, worth it IMO.
vagrantwadeAug 3, 2010
What exactly is the battle.net crap you speak of? I absolutely love the new Battle.net system.
daslinksAug 4, 2010
one user per cd key. my brother bought SC II a couple days ago and the only way i could legally play the game, even single player, is if i sign on as him. I'm greatly disappointed that the creators of Spawn Installation have turned to this....
shirukenAug 4, 2010
I'm sure we can thank the Activision part of Activision-Blizzard for that.
julikAug 4, 2010
You can log on as a guest to play campaign.
I think the one user per cd key is a great idea.
The only problem I have with what they have set up right now is how the custom map thing works... listing the popular and most played maps on the top of the list is going to make it more difficult to find new maps.
thealliedhackerAug 4, 2010
No LAN
johnomazzAug 5, 2010
The custom maps suck as well as how strict they have been on the map makers. They seem to be as bad as Apple with banning maps and users who make them. Apparently the phrase "game experience may change online" doesn't mean s**t anymore other than the ability to cover their asses.
kingmanicAug 3, 2010
The RTS genre had been 4 pooled
plagueponyAug 3, 2010

I really don't care about it being the fastest selling strategy game. Command and Conquer has its moments and all... but seriously we knew this already.. I want to see how this stacks up as one of the fastest selling PC games in general... and for that matter, how it compared to any video game on any console or PC.... THEN, I will start to be impressed.
factorof13Aug 3, 2010
I'd kind of like to play this game, but I don't want to give Activision any money. Oh well. I still have the Warhammer games. Also Civ V is coming soon too.

Its the first PC game I've bought in a long time. Even had to buy a video card so I could play it. Sadly, its missing a lot of things that are pissing the community off. You can't play custom maps unless you upload to Blizz's server, Blizz is being WAY too much like Apple and deleting/banning maps for stuff as simple as using the word ass.
pktgumbyAug 4, 2010

Holy smokes Bnet is pure s**t!
I purchased the game through bnet and had to wait another three days for the purchase to go through. The order was stuck on "queued" under transaction history. If you search for this via google it looks like this is a major issue, with all sorts of stupid wacky things to try to "resolve" it. The only way to resolve is to contact bliz support or wait it out when they dont get back to you like me...
Other then that the game is great! Even the Viking side game is way done.
NEXT TIME USE STEAM!!!! This game would get a 10/10 from me but drops to 8/10 because of bnet.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

sp1nAug 3, 2010
The game was playable even though the status said it was queued, so what exactly is the problem? My order status changed to completed the next day, but I was playing the game seconds after making the purchase.
vagrantwadeAug 3, 2010
Yea he is making no sense. My order status was also in Queue but I was still able to play the game once I placed my order and it switched to activated on my bnet account.
jaythewiseAug 3, 2010
No I wasnt able to play at all while my order was queued. Once it was completed then bamm no issues.
vagrantwadeAug 3, 2010

jaythewiseAug 4, 2010
Nope, installed with a friend's CD and then purchased the key online in bnet. It wouldnt let me enter anything into the bnet ID screen when you first start up sc2 until the order was "complete" in bnet.
danbarkerAug 3, 2010
I had the same issue as you did, so I rang customer support and cancelled it and went to the shop (where I also got it for cheaper). But I voted you down for two reasons.
A) You actually like steam... it is awful software in my opinion
B) You have given the game a lower rating because of the content delivery mechanism YOU chose to use.
jaythewiseAug 4, 2010
Thats f**king moronic lol. How the f**k am I supposed to know bnet had the issues it has with online purchases?
I mean with all the software on steam and the lack of issues I have had with it VS bnet screwing up one single game come on...
ninjaboyAug 4, 2010
wtf steam is also awesome.
jaythewiseAug 4, 2010
From the Blizzard rep who finally got back to me after 4 days...
Greetings,Sorry about that. The second part of my response had a Game Card thing attached in it. Edit fail on my part. As for the issue, yes this is an issue [the queued thing not letting your order go through your bnet account] that has come up. However, some of them have been resolved by clearing the cache/temp internet files. I decided to suggest this to you in hopes that you could get back online, instead of simply saying that it was an issue that you had to wait out. However, I'm very happy to see that you were able to get things taken care of on your end. ^_^ Enjoy SC II! Regards, Alden F.Customer ServicesBlizzard Entertainmentwww.blizzard.com/support

duneadxAug 3, 2010
StarCraft 2 is great.
Battle.net 2.0 is suck.
RealID is also suck.
taikyokukenAug 3, 2010
You don't have to use the damn realID you simpleton. You can make friends that you meet in games without sharing your info. In this way it is as sophisticated as Xbox Live. I see no issue with the system they have in place.
duneadxAug 3, 2010
Just because I don't have to use it doesn't make it not suck.
Xbox Live works between multiple games. That is why I use RealID, to talk to people playing Warcraft while I'm on Starcraft or vice versa, or on different realms. I only use it with my real friends anyway and it's still a pain. It lists our full billing names everytime we chat. It's stupid and unnecessary.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
bugmenot2Aug 3, 2010
Real ID is great. I wish Steam had a similar system. I can't remember all of my friends' usernames so it's really convenient to have their real names to refer to.
serinusAug 3, 2010
If you don't know their real name, you don't need to know when they're on WoW while you're on starcraft. For chatting within starcraft or on forums, you're not required to use your real name at all.
duneadxAug 3, 2010
I'd change it to just show an optional handle or nick name instead of a full name. Most of my friends don't even know my real name since I've gone by my middle name since I was born.
I'd include some sort of offline mode so I don't have to unplug my computer from the internet if I want to just relax and do some single player campaigns without being bothered.
I just don't see what Blizzard has to gain by forcing everyone to use their real name to use RealID. It could be a useful service like Steam or Xbox Live but this holds it back in my eyes.
rhendalAug 4, 2010
And then what happens if you decide to change your handle and people on your friends list have 12 other people on their friends list changed their handles around the same time and have no idea who these people are anymore?
But honestly, what is the big deal with having YOUR FRIENDS KNOWING YOUR REAL NAME?
vagrantwadeAug 3, 2010
Are you that ashamed of yourself that you don't want anyone to know your name?
duneadxAug 3, 2010
I just like my privacy. It is very fleeting these days.
Just to let you know, when you replied to my comment, it sent me an email with your real name. Kinda scary don't you think?
vagrantwadeAug 4, 2010
I use to log in with Facebook, so no not really. Jim Wade, Cedar Rapids IA. I gave up acting like a little s**t online back when I was a kid. I don't see how people knowing your name gives away your privacy. There is a lot more to a person than their name.
duneadxAug 4, 2010
You are going to run into people that take the game too seriously and too personally. Those are the people I don't want having my real name. I don't need some kid raging over loot or something and trying to exact revenge on my real life. I don't think i'm going to be murdered, but there are pranks that can be played.
I understand that RealID is totally optional and as such, I only use it with my real friends. There are people I've played online games with throughout the years that I'd definitely add to a RealID-style friends list to play with later, but would never consider giving out personal info.
I don't think I'm being unreasonable. Blizzard appears to somewhat agree with me, as they have reversed their stance on having forums display real names as well as being able to opt out of the friends of friends being able to see real names.
anawnymooseAug 4, 2010
You must live in a magical world where 4chan and stalkers don't exist. How do I get there?
gibbonsbeardAug 4, 2010
starcraft 2 owns
battle.net 2.0 owns
you don't have to give out your real name if you don't want to.
spacebuddyAug 3, 2010
Worth purchasing just for the campaign. Game is awesome.
shawkabAug 3, 2010
Campaign is worth an easy 60 bucks..
Anyone complaining about price now adays is a complete retard. In reality if companies were complete douches they could probably get away with charging another $60 just for their Multiplayer.. instead you get it free and Blizzard just flips the bill for the cost of maintaining that game with updates, balancing and servers..
serinusAug 3, 2010
league of legends is dota++ (from the same people). No reason to remake it in SC2 now.
vagrantwadeAug 3, 2010
LoL and HoN have pretty much taken over DotA.
broccoliAug 4, 2010
Agreed normally for some reason in rts games I never do the campaign. This one hooked me

No LAN = no sale. f**k Blizzard.
taikyokukenAug 3, 2010
Fine, don't go online and climb the latters against me. One less rung.
dirtyfriesAug 3, 2010
This bugged me a little initially...but realistically...where are you nowadays (at a LAN party no less) that doesn't have internet? So you have to go online?
It's not like the game needs a ridiculously fast ping.
undauntedspiritAug 3, 2010
Don't know why you're being negatively dug. No sale here either.
serinusAug 3, 2010
I'm sure they're disappointed that you didn't pirate the game.
vagrantwadeAug 4, 2010
Can't you just create a private game on battle.net for you and your friends to play? Or do you honestly want me to think you have a LAN but no internet access, and didn't just pirate the game.
formerbabbyAug 4, 2010
F**K BLIZZRRD!! I WANT MY FEATUR FROM 1998 THAT I WILL NEVAR USE!!!
nmanguyAug 3, 2010
I prefer my $7 SupCom 2 that I got the other day, thank you very much.
plagueponyAug 3, 2010
That was 6$ too much. That game made me so sad after SupCom1.
nmanguyAug 4, 2010
I haven't actually tried it, I was just commenting that I spent $7 on my RTS, not $70. And yeah, I heard it's dumbed down a bit, but at least they tried something different, so I'll look for myself later.
foundation12Aug 3, 2010
When there isn't a single other classic base building RTS around it's not really that surprising. Dow 2 dumbed down, SupCom 2 dumbed down, C&C 4 faceplanted. Really this is the first classic RTS with base building since Age 3 [the exceptional CoH has base building but a non traditional resource system]. To me it's a case of the majority of game devs telling us that they know what we want and us telling them "no, not really" with millions of Starcraft II sales.
d4rthv4derAug 4, 2010
I've been a massive C&C fan for over a decade now.I liked C&C3. Red3 was a bit too unrealistic for me. C&C4 I not even going to bother. R.I.P C&C series.
spacemanspiff22Aug 4, 2010
Some people criticize the game for being similar to the first, but imo this is what makes starcraft great and different from the others you mentioned. The trend in rts in recent years has been the tactical, rpg type games and that just wouldn't be starcraft. Kudos to blizzard for sticking to their guns and not "innovating" by doing the same thing we've seen countless franchises do in recent years.
taikyokukenAug 3, 2010
This game deserves it. It is the most addicting PC game I've played in years, single handedly reviving the RTS genre. Brilliant.

Um, Hellions? They're faster and they essentially do the same thing with a longer attack range.
jabbrwockeyAug 4, 2010
But don't fit into bunkers to stop that zealout rush.
garthsAug 3, 2010
I find it to be boring compared to Company of Heroes. SC 2 is a game stuck in 1998 whereas RTS has evolved immensely since then.
s1n1e1v1e1t1sAug 3, 2010
RTS has evolved... into something that less people like.
vagrantwadeAug 4, 2010
Yes because there is nothing more refreshing than a video game like Company of Heroes which takes place during WW2. Just not enough of those games.
garthsAug 4, 2010

cerebronAug 3, 2010
It's pretty great so far, (I enjoy it) but has a handful of flaws:
1. SupCom set the standard for strategic zoom and camera controls, Starcraft 2 ignores it, result is slightly claustrophobic and slows the pace.
2. Internet is required, if you don't connect every 30 days, it purposely breaks everything.
3. Medics/Firebats/etc aren't in multiplayer. I know it's a balance issue, but if you are retro enough to ignore SupCom's innovations, you may as well figure out how to make classic favorite units work.
4. Only containing Terran campaign leaves the player relatively clueless when they play another race in multiplayer.
vagrantwadeAug 3, 2010
If you played all of the missions in campaign, then you should know how to play Protos for the most part. And there are challenge missions that teach you enough about Zerg.
cerebronAug 4, 2010
I haven't made it that far, but thanks.
vagrantwadeAug 4, 2010
It's not very far into the game actually. Maybe like 1/2-1/3 of the way in. Just side missions you can do.
manowarxAug 4, 2010
Also, you can play against AI for achievements as other races to learn. There are a bunch of training missions which are a really good way to learn P and Z unit counters, etc.
dontthinksoAug 4, 2010
Blizzard has said they won't implement SupCom style zoom features into SC2 because they want the game to remain fast-paced.
gibbonsbeardAug 4, 2010
medivacs
dkevinscalfAug 4, 2010
1. Admittedly you can't zoom in/out but you can hold Del and turn the camera left and right. Also CTRL+SHIFT+F on a unit sets the camera to follow it.
2. Who cares if internet is required to play? This isn't 1995 and we're past dial-up. BNet is free, also.
3. The multiplayer has Hellions (firebats), Medivacs (medics), and there is no etc other than Dragoons (stalkers). And the early terran infantry build is more viable than ever with nearly half of Terrans playing Marines, Marauders, Medivacs.
4. Like a guy said before me there are challenge missions you can do that teach you how to play with every race.
dbetaAug 4, 2010
I got SupCom 2 a few months ago and I was really impressed with the "Google Maps"ish zooming in and out. To move around the map I mostly just zoomed out and rolled the mouse to where I wanted then zoomed in, rather than panning or using the minimap. Being able to zoom all the way out to see the whole battlefield let get a much better sense of what was going on all over the place. I don't mind the short range of the units in SC2 though. It makes me feel like I have more control over my units. SC2 certainly should have jacked SupCom's zooming, and perhaps some other features. I think cross pollination of games makes all games better.
caio6939Aug 3, 2010
damn I wish my pc could handle sc2 :(
ninekplusAug 3, 2010
if you play on lowest it shouldn't require a powerful machine

azathothhAug 4, 2010

gojirraAug 3, 2010
@vagrantwade Warcraft is the most popular FRANCHISE maybe, due to the fact that there are so many games, including Blizzard's most popular game WoW. I was talking about Starcraft vs Warcraft on the RTS front, since that's what the article is about. Although, I wouldn't be surprised if SC2 outsold even WoW at some point in the near future.
ryuujinusaAug 3, 2010
Ah...(tear) the hypocrisy of all the little whiners complaining about, no LAN, 3 game series, etc etc. and how they aren't going to get the game. Then it becomes the best selling strategy game ever.
I personally didn't think it was a big deal, but I wonder how many of those hypocrites bought the game, I know a few personally myself.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
spacemanspiff22Aug 4, 2010
The people who complain about these types of things on the internet and always an extreme minority. Even if every one of them didn't buy it and went on a crusade for others to do the same, it wouldn't even dent sales. The internet always makes a huge deal out of nothing.
danielthediggerAug 3, 2010

Spawn more Overlords.
virinixAug 4, 2010
I originally pirated this off piratebay. After fiddling with cracks and launchers, and getting single player skirmish to finally work, I said f**k it and bought it.
Speaking as a man who has pirated thousands of games to try them (and then delete them 2 hours later because they suck), this game is WORTH your money.
garthsAug 4, 2010
