Vivendi is still both their parent companies. Nothing changed except the money pool became larger for both companies to delve into. Activision is not Blizzard's publisher. Vivendi has always had the last word on Blizzard projects.

They DEFINITELY were... Since when did Blizzard give three f**ks about four f**ks about forum trolls? They will be, are, and have been a part of the blizzard forums for years. Blizzard doesn't need to know people's names, the community helps them enough anonymously with the test realms, tons of websites and forums dedicated to testing patch changes, etc. I can see Grand Overlord Kotick walking into the Blizzard headquarters and saying "f**k yall, I'm takin over this bitch. First things first: How to f**k over your half of the merged company so you'll be down on our level?"

joejitsuJul 12, 2010
Everyone wants to make money, but developers also want to make art. The producer could care less and just wants more profit. There used to be more producers and they had to compete among themselves to get good developers, so they offered them more creative freedom. Now there is like 6 producers and very little artistic freedom.
3nder99Jul 12, 2010
IW sold out before Activision destroyed them. IW has been living of the creativity of the modding community. IW does not make art.
IW copies ideas from the modding community and adds them a mod of the id tech 3 engine which they did not build from the ground up.
In fact there is basically nothing original in what IW did. Except destroying the modding community and obliterating any hope of new ideas
bruceleelennonJul 12, 2010
and all those developers sell out and agree to their companies terms. if you're in it to make art you dont work for activision. anyone that does is a sell out.
joejitsuJul 12, 2010
The problem is lack of alternatives. You can refuse to work for Activision and work for EA or Sony instead, but the same problem remains. For a game like COD you need lots of funding and to do that you need a producer. All the producers are going to force terms. There are independent game makers that make games that can be played online, but they don't release their games to brick and mortar businesses.

xenuxenutsJul 12, 2010
The difference is that the general populous has semblance of control over government through voting. It's all about a balance of power and control. Decrease the power of government too much and you'll find out why it's there. And it isn't only to protect the rich from the poor.

The majority of corporations are actually small businesses that just found it advantageous to incorporate. Its the size, combined with the complete lack of real human moderation (the boss is millions of faceless stock holders, i.e. the boss is profit at all costs), that makes the massive public corporations the problem that they are.

Blizzard has been upping nickel-and-dime schemes for WoW, though. You can now buy in-game pets, in-game mount, remote AH app, etc.
Blizzard has been good enough to keep real money from providing an in-game advantage, but they are flirting with the line.
Starcraft II is now being broken up into expansion packs.
It might be a coincidence, but Blizzard is seeming a bit more money-hungry lately.

Smarten up. The name of the game is to maximize profits, now that they are submissive to a large corporation. Think about it, with such a long time since anything new happened in the SC universe, were going to be getting more SC than we could have asked for, every new expansion comes with a new chapter in what I hope will be an epic story line and of course new stuff.

They're a merged company called Activision Blizzard.
They aren't staying away from it - They are it.
metalcardJul 12, 2010
Activision Blizzard is the holding company for all the game companies Vivendi owns, which include Blizzard and Activision. It was formerly known as Vivendi Games (which Blizzard was part of) until they merged with Activision and formed the holding company known now as Activision Blizzard.
Activision and Blizzard are separate companies, and always will be. Each act on their own and answer to Vivendi, not each other nor Activision Blizzard. Beyond the fact that neither company answers to each other you'll notice games are published under either Activision or Blizzard, never the holding company name.

Oh well. You can't tell me these same Infinity Ward employees had nothing to do with the ruining of the most anticipated game of all time. I can't believe the amount of glitches and overpowered kits that shipped with this game and are still going on right now. Apparently if you award people for not dying with highly overpowered rewards they will just camp and killstreak whore it up. No one does anything but camp and it's so sad, this had potential to be a timeless game and now it's just bulls**t and it would've been so easy to fix.

You know this hurts me that Infinity Ward has broken up like this. This is a company who has yet to make a bad game. Modern Warfare 2 is probably the closest they made that would be considered bad. I really think after Call of Duty 4 came out, they wanted to start a whole new project. Activision probably made them make Modern Warfare 2.
The Call of Duty series is really getting stale. No joke, my favorite video game ever is the ORIGINAL Call of Duty. I was new to PC shooters at that time and I have never played a game so immersive in my life. I still go back and play the beginning of the Russian campaign.
I don't even play Modern Warfare 2 anymore. The game is filled with campers. I can't take that s**t anymore. It doesn't help that the game rewards campers with the killstreaks.
richmomzJul 12, 2010
Agree 100%, except CoD2 is my favorite in the series (the Russian campaign being an epic sequel to the first). Come to think of it, maybe they need to just make a 100% Russian WWII CoD - maybe take a novel twist by playing the role of a sniper instead of running & gunning (so its a combination of Thief and CoD). Like an updated version of "Sniper Elite", figure out a way to make a fun MP mode, and they've got instant gold I think.

Although the FPS that I played more than any was CoD 2. I remember walking down the video game aisle and seeing the first Call of Duty and thinking "Hmm, this game looks alright." So I bought it. I was engrossed from the start and was thrilled to hear the second one was coming out. Then it took my live over for a while. Then 3 came out and it f**king sucked. Treyarch made it instead of IW. Then from that point on, Treyarch made every other CoD game because of their contract with IW, and all of their CoD games have sucked dick. Treyarch is making Black Ops, so I'm almost positive I'll hate it.

Ok, what a bunch of bulls**t. This is hilarious reading how IW employees are trying to portray themselves as victims.
Yes Bobby Kotick is a psychotic megalomaniac, but that has no bearing on the FACT that these IW people were trying to jump ship and recruiting from the inside of their office. You can't just use company resources and call secret meetings with employees on the clock to perform espionage. It's no wonder they 'interrogated' people and had security guards on hand.
They all had to sign wavers when they became employees, I'm sure.. and they promised not to do this same exact kind of stunt.
So to recap. A) Kotick is an assh**e B) employers are always trying to save money and will look for any excuse not to pay a bonus C) They gave them their excuse.
I'm sorry, but if you know you work for an assh**e and are looking for a bonus from said assh**e don't f**k up. These IW heads are just as arrogant.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Activision needs to be destroyed
virinixJul 12, 2010
I've worked for several gaming companies, always in the engine coding and compliance related areas. To call Activision a police state is a understatement.
- Bring a unapproved MP3 player to work? Fired. Why? Because it can be used as a usb storage device to steal secret activision magic spells.
- Constant requests from uppers for major changes to a part of the engine, only 1 week later to look at the progress and say: This is stupid, why are you doing this?
- NDA's that are incredible.. I am violating one right now. f**k you activision.
And this is just the programmer's side of it. For the level designers:
- Spend 8 hours straight every day recieving basic design ideal layouts for levels, spending 2 weeks creating said designs, only to be handed an 'update' that basically requires redoing it all. This is ok because all the people at this level are paid a little better than minimum wage, but you are literally expected to be a slave.
- You worked an extra 2 hours today? Depending on your upper (and in most cases it doesn't even matter), you will not get paid for it. You will get promises, and then when you start to question your promises, then they turn to the 'We want people here who are motivated and are willing to put in the hours'.. but without the pay.
- They constantly screw with contractual obligations.
"These Infinity Ward employees evidently met with Activision CEO Bobby Kotick later in March, and the lawsuit claims Kotick promised to pay out the additional bonus money at the end of the month. That never happened, and the suit describes that when the group met with CFO Thomas Tippl in April to demand their bonus money, they were told to "get over it." "
- They will make 'on the hand' promises to get what they want out of you. A last minute change to something? 'No problem guys, do the work and everyone will get bonuses!' As shown above, it never happens.
Now I know these rules apply to most businesses, but Activision is one of the worst I have ever seen. Despite what I have said I was by no means an unhappy employee, I was deep enough into the programming to be immune from the bulls**t experienced at the lower levels of design. I felt so bad watching one guy get fired because he spilled coffee all over his shirt, and didn't happen to have a full extra set of clothing in his desk. Bad business.
The company is literally run by morons. If I get a lawsuit/notice from this post, I will post a small mountain of dirty laundry more.

So we all agree Bobby is a dick and Activision is a bad employer.. so then why give them a reason to yank the bonus? That seems like f**king with the bull and getting the horns, if you ask me.
Nobody ever gets bonuses? Really? You don't seem like you have experience in several of any kind of company environment in which bonuses are regularly awarded. Sounds like you've just taken the bait like everyone else and assumed IW is completely innocent here and the clear victim.

How is using a standard acronym "trying to sound clever" in any way? Everything else you wrote doesn't matter if you're stupid enough to say something like that.
zzzblazJul 12, 2010
The holier than thou route? Nice. I guess if you can't argue against the content of someone's words just go ahead and find some spelling mistake or a bit of semantics to distract from the topic.

Dude, you're a dick.
iignotusJul 12, 2010
I like the part where the person who acted holier-than-thou over someone "trying to sound" clever by using an acronym, also accused someone else of calling them holier-than-thou.
zzzblazJul 12, 2010
That's it, keep avoiding the argument. That tactic work well for you?
iignotusJul 12, 2010
Yep, there's that mental retardation I was talking about. You sound like Sarah Palin. A bunch of nonsense strung together with a holier-than-thou comment at the end.
zzzblazJul 12, 2010
Nice. Ad hominem attacks now.
You can't really even back up your bulls**t statements can you? I love how you are so arrogant you yourself declare NDA a "standard acronym" when there are plenty of people reading this who would have no idea what that means... then you get all butthurt and indignant about it so as to avoid facing me like a man and backing up all the complete garbage you put forth as fact.
Hilarious! Seriously, keep avoiding it.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Wow... I apologize, I don't think I've seen the words 'Non-Disclosure Agreement' written out in full in paperwork in a very damn long time. It's always written as NDA on such a regular basis, you kind of get used to it.
zzzblazJul 12, 2010
Legal documents use acronyms huh? Amazing lies.
iignotusJul 12, 2010
zzzblaz is the most annoying troll yet
zzzblazJul 12, 2010
You don't even know what a troll is do you?
iignotusJul 12, 2010
Haha he has no life either and replies to comments you direct towards him just seconds after making them.
zzzblazJul 12, 2010
I get an email everytime you digg yourself deeper in a hole. LOL you don't even know what a troll is.
iignotusJul 12, 2010
And he still doesn't get it, lol.
I command you to reply to this comment immediately, so that your post may be dugg down that much faster! Good boy!
darqravenJul 12, 2010
Can I get a facepalm up in here?
-_-
dickyt83Jul 12, 2010
Just for virinix, I'm going to kill zzzblaz so many times in MW2 tonight, and with my new gamertag: HolierThanYourNDA.
ergodigitalityJul 12, 2010
Your an assh**e.
nova437Jul 12, 2010
You're* spelling it wrong.
No but really, I agree, that guy is a douche.
virinixJul 12, 2010
It's probly safe to say you could present a working cure for cancer and zzzblaz would probly point out how cancer is a gift from god to teach people what happens when you live in sin.
Mislead 'religious' types are always hilarious. Believe in what I say or I hurt you.
zzzblazJul 12, 2010
Strange how not one person can disprove everything I've said.
archangelzltJul 21, 2010
The troll is well-fed.
blight000Jul 12, 2010
I think it's obvious that zzzblaz is Bobby Kotick in disguise.
zzzblazJul 12, 2010
Lulz, I cannot f**king WAIT until this case is thrown out because it has no merit. It's fluff, it's a stunt and they got fired fare and square.
Everyone who believes the hype created by IW to milk sympathy from the public via the media, you are gullible and moronic. You people have no f**king idea what you are talking about.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

BC 2 > MW 2
wondertwinsJul 12, 2010
words of wisdom. Although adjusting to BC2 might take a day or two. I thought BC2 was s**ttier than MW2 but after playing Rush and Squad DM, I love this game.
btw, it's harder to get 1 hit kills with sniper
zzzblazJul 12, 2010
Huge Battlefield fan here but BC2 is complete s**te. It's buggy, it's lose, it's crap, the consolidated classes suck.
Yes, Rush is fun (I hated gold rush) and reminds me kind of what Halo Reach is trying to do with invasion.. but that's not enough for the game to stand on. Sorry.
The game is garbage and it's hard to find a good room after 11pm MST.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
railzJul 12, 2010
I haven't run into one bug and I played since Beta. Not sure what you're playing it on. BC2 has a lot more going for it then rush.
zzzblazJul 12, 2010
Xbox. And if you haven't had a bug you're either lying or incredibly lucky. I call bulls**t.
iignotusJul 12, 2010
You can call bulls**t on anything you want, it just makes you sound like a ten year old. BC2 plays flawlessly for everyone but you. I wonder where the problem lies...
darqravenJul 12, 2010
Mate, if you were a huge Battlefield fan you wouldn't be playing this game on an Xbox.
Playing shooter games on a console instantly degrades the quality of that game. Could that be your problem?
/Playing BC2 for months now, no bugs besides the chat function ever encountered. Over a 1000 hours in BF2, 400 in BF2142.
dickyt83Jul 12, 2010
zzzblaz, you must be having the worst day in history. In fact, I'm fairly certain that you're the reason the term "Negative Nancy" was created.
joejitsuJul 12, 2010
I've never encountered a bug in BC2. Also I've never had a problem getting a room, or have seen all the servers down.
doctorlexusJul 12, 2010
Hell yes!
deepleetJul 13, 2010
Onslaught on pc please
doshindudeJul 12, 2010
Oh Yeah Infinity Ward? I'm quite sure it was YOUR decision not to include dedicated servers, so STFU.
zzzblazJul 12, 2010
Thank you.
Closed AccountJul 12, 2010
I doubt anything was Infinity Ward's decision. You do what the person with money tells you to do.
zzzblazJul 12, 2010
"I doubt anything was Infinity Ward's decision."
Wow, it's like the idiots just came out to play on this one.
Yeah, they had no hand in making anything. In fact, the game made itself.
"You do what the person with money tells you to do."
On this point we agree. It's the crux of my whole argument. Unfortunately, they did the exact opposite. You see, they went and started corporate espionage inside Activision... yeah, oddly enough, they pissed away their bonus by getting fired before it was paid to them.
libertyprimeJul 12, 2010
Can't blame activision for the piece of s**t that MW2 is.
eavesdropJul 12, 2010
f**k Infinity Ward.

Now please, could all whining gameplayers shut the f**k up in comments? I'd like to hear more from game developers, not from kids who have trauma, because MW2 don't have dedic server files.
phpcypherJul 12, 2010
One more reason to have a programmers union
mrswapJul 12, 2010
A programmer's union is a terrible idea.
meerlingJul 12, 2010
Maybe, but how do you herd cats again?
celticphillyoJul 12, 2010
Bottom line, the hardcore 'may' move away from the CoD franchise now that Treyarch are solely developing them, however the VAST majority of gamers (sheeple) don't & won't even know who develops it (á la World at War, which did a bucketload more sales than the original Modern Warfare). An unfortunate reality, but a reality nonetheless
wildJul 12, 2010
You have a lot wrong in your post, let me help:
1.) World at War may not have the best overall package, but its a lot more "fun" than the other CoD games (sorry, zombie mode ends the discussion)
2.) WaW sold well because of how good CoD4 was. That doesn't make people sheep, it makes them interested in getting more of what they liked. The dev may have switched, but the formula was still the same.
3.) Black Ops looks like it is going to be good, in spite of Activision.
4.) MW2 was awful, and the problems don't stem from Activision decisions. They added so much unblanaced crap to that game its nearly unplayable. (Not to mention removing Party Chat on 360, which was an IW decision, not an Activision one).
danj484Jul 12, 2010
Treyarch isn't the sole CoD developer. Or at least that wasn't the case before this whole fiasco.
kinseyincanadaJul 12, 2010
I dont understand why everyones excited about Respawn Entertainment, MW2 has a ton of problems and the guys at Respawn are partially responsible for it so there going to have to really make up for the problems of MW2.
