Blood Gulch has become something like an existential state of being for me. It grows with me, but keeps the seeds of that arena I've been playing on for so many years...being able to see Blood Gulch bigger and better every few years really generated nostalgia not unlike Facilty (Goldeneye)/Felicity (Perfect Dark).

Agree. Except possibly clearing up that Blood Gulch will be a real map and that the space fighting will be seamless (yay) but only be one level (snif).

Not really. The space stuff was announced at E3 which is where they said it was only in one part of the game. Blood Gulch was announces awhile back by Red vs Blue.

I, for one, have to agree with SpyPirates. I've been a huge fan of Halo since the original and now i feel Bungie has gone to far with adding features. "The definitive Halo experience" was the simplicity yet awesomeness of Halo CE, Halo 2 and Halo 3. not crazy jetpacking bulls**t. I think you're confusing "the definitive Halo experience" with nostalgia.
Halo: Reach is not and should not be "Halo CE HD". Each installment has been about taking the principles of Halo combat, and including new elements. Pistol, then dual-wielding, then Equipment, now new abilities. This isn't some great departure, it's what they've been doing all along.

I was addicted to Modern Warfare 2. Then the Reach Beta came out, and I played NOTHING ELSE for its duration. (actually haven't touched it since) It's got a lot of what made the original Halo so awesome for multiplayer - a few unbalancing elements that can throw the entire match one direction or the other pretty quickly if you're not paying attention. On your toes, fast paced action.
The added "gimmickry?" I thought the same thing at first, then I played with it and it felt amazingly natural and awesome. "OH S*** 'NADES EVERYWHERE" *armor lock* (the skilled came out alive and decimated anyone nearby, the less skilled got pwned as soon as armor lock let go) The game was way too much fun.
Cannot wait for Reach.

Why was there ever a sequel to Halo besides money?
The game sucked. It was uninspired and it belonged in the bargain bin from day one.
It gave rise to a system that has literally sapped all creativity from developers like Infinity Ward and Bethesda in order to generate more profits. Microsoft has leveraged Halo to destroy PC gaming because they tried to make it "exclusive" to Xbox and in the process they've forced independent devs to suck the corporate c**k.
Microsoft wants to develop an OS that DOESN'T INCLUDE GAMERS so they can compete with Apple. Thanks to Valve, Mac is now a gaming platform and soon Linux will be too. If they can develop a glide wrapper for TF2 they can abandon DirectX forever. I cannot wait for that day...Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Your statements, Think4Yourselff, are very heavily biased to the point that they're leaning off to one side. I like how you portray Halo as evil. It sucked the creativity from Infinity Ward/Bethesda, it destroyed PC gaming, and forces independent devs to sexually gratify Microsoft.
And then, somehow, your post becomes an anti-Microsoft tirade decrying how they don't want gamers on their OS. Because...somehow this will help their competition with Apple? And because of this, Macs and Linux machines have become gaming platforms.
It's impossible, of course, that Microsoft knew they had a hit, and simply used it to drive adoption of their console (which is what corporations do, you know), just like Apple uses apps, and Sony/Nintendo use their bought console exclusives. Ironically, you're exactly right with your first question. The vast, vast majority of games produced exist solely because they make a viable product that will earn money. There wouldn't be a gaming industry if gaming weren't an industry. I don't doubt that developers love what they do--but pretending that it's some kind of charity, or art for art's sake, is some pretty high-level imagining. Making a modern game means full-time work for many people, it's not a hobby-level thing anymore unless you're making some kind of mobile phone app/game. But you're right, it's got to be Microsoft being evil...

Bill Gates is a eugenicist that is very familiar with "owning" the media. Halo was hyped by all gaming media years before it was released as the greatest game to ever be developed. MS was so sure of this that they bought Bungie and forced them to make it an Xbox game.
All it took was hype over a s**tty game because MS could afford to PAY THE GAMING MAGAZINES AND WEBSITES (If you don't believe that happens just look at Kane & Lynch) to give it good reviews to get every retard that didn't know how to build a PC to buy an Xbox.
MS literally took the PC gaming industry and turned it to s**t with the Xbox. They took every popular Dev and made them make games for their retard system. It forced the artistic developers out of the system and allowed in all of the robots who would continue to poop out Halo sequels.

Halo 1 was amazing. That opening level in that huge field, the music, purple energy weapons shooting about - all felt very next gen and fresh at the time.
The sequels since then have definitely fallen short on the single player side. Seems to be more of an online community now.

Does anyone know if this will have the split-screen Xbox Live capability that Halo 3 had? You know, where you can get up to four people together on one TV and play against other people in social slayer on matchmaking? That's really one of the definitive selling points of Halo imo. Getting a bunch of people together for some fun times. Disappoints me that more games don't do this.

Local mulitplayer is all sorts of win, and most of my mates (late 20's) only play casually this way. I'd say this is also a big contributor to why games like Halo, Gears and CoD are so successful.

sorry, but reach is completely different than halo 1, halo 2, and halo 3. The reason why the previous three games we're amazing is because they didn't change the fundamentals of the game. I admit Reach is a good game but it has no comparison to the other three. The game is just fundamentally different and the game-play with be greatly affected.
