I seriously doubt those 11 million units sum up to $220 million.
They've been for sale at $10 or less for many years.
ninekplusJul 24, 2010
Yesterday when I was at Target the Starcraft Battle Chest, with SC, BW, and guides was $20.
splat313Jul 24, 2010
Yeah, finding new copies of Starcraft is going to run you $20+. Diablo 2 was going for $40 at Best Buy as of last week.
poonchowJul 24, 2010
Starcraft has a purely numerical CD key (at least my copy does) which means it's extremely easy to pirate.
thraxywaxyJul 24, 2010
I remember buying it for $80 when it was new. To depreciate only to $20 in 10 years is pretty good.
oktoberfestJul 24, 2010
it's only $15 if you buy it online from the Blizzard Store for the digital version
milsorgnJul 23, 2010
Lol go play Starcraft 1 and check the pathfinding AI and then tell me it gets to be called 'gaming royalty'.
Further more it's a PC RTS game, LOLOLOLOL! Don't expect a Halo/MW2 level of release guys.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
carrot1991Jul 23, 2010
It's true, MW & Halo 3 have outsold Starcraft in a fraction of the time, Halo Reach already nearly has more pre-orders than it whilst two months awau for chrissake and yet PC fanboys continue to pretend this is a bigger release then it actually is.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
stevedanJul 24, 2010
Starcraft - 11 million copies SOLD (?? million pirated)
MW2: 7.5 million sold
Halo 3: 8 million sold
(American preorders, keep in mind I'm pretty sure countries like Korea are going to favor SC2 even more)
Halo Reach preorders: 528k
SC2 Preorders: 684k
Poor console-gamer sheep. If you wanted a non-upgradable computer that is forced to run proprietary software, you should have just bought a Mac
carrot1991Jul 24, 2010
What age are you living in?
http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=halo+3+10+million&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&client=firefox-a
This was in 2 thousand and f**king 9, Halo's probably well past 11 Million right now.
----------
And yeah, 100k less when it's 2 months away and advertising hasn't kicked in?
Starcraft II will be pirated to s**t and ported to consoles anyway, let's face it.

http://digg.com/xbox/Halo_3_sells_10_million_copies_worldwide *
Sorry about that, wrong link.
frederiknsJul 24, 2010
@stevedan: Non-upgradable, yes. But forced to run proprietary software? not at all!, I'm running lots off open-source stuff on my mac
naturalrhythmJul 24, 2010
I think an important point here is that although Halo 3 was/is a very popular game, the fan base just doesn't have the love for the series to stick with it for 12 years. Working at a games store myself I can tell you we see PLENTY of Halo 3's come in as trades, and hardly anyone buys it anymore. That game was released in 2007, whereas the StarCraft battle chest sells like mad, and the last installment was in 2002.
On a sidenote, f**k fanboys.
carrot1991Jul 24, 2010
Bulls**t again? I've loved Halo since CE and that's going on 10 years ago.
paradigmxJul 24, 2010
It may be a PC release(which is not dying BTW), but it is also one of the largest gaming franchises in the world, it is the national sport of Korea and is televised 24/7 in a large number of countries.
Don't be fooled, Blizzard has held the release day sales record before for a WoW expansion, I predict they may be able to grab that record again, theres 100 million Asians probably sitting in line right now.
arekkusuJul 24, 2010
Go back to your Xbawks retard.
dontthinksoJul 24, 2010
"As of January 3, 2008, Halo 3 has sold 8.1 million copies"
Starcraft, a game from an unpopular genre that was released _12 years ago_ has sold more copies than Halo 3.
Part of Starcraft 1's charm was that to be good you had to have mastery over unit control; the units weren't going to fight optimally on their own - you had to do that yourself.
critramJul 24, 2010
I was with you for the AI pathfinding, but thinking it will not be a big release is hard to believe. I am hoping it is a small release so I can grab a copy of the CE but I am keeping my hopes low of getting one.
You lost me with the LOLOLOLOLOL...
ninekplusJul 24, 2010
Unless you opened it already or have it on order waiting to be picked up I don't think you will get one, unless you have a stack of cash and buy it off someone.
doublebaconsodaJul 23, 2010
Starcraft 2 is gonna be fun, I can't wait to be humiliated by South Koreans on Battle.net .
ninekplusJul 24, 2010
Battle.net2.0 will have some kind of region lock, different servers for different regions.
So maybe that is a good thing O.o?
spire3660Jul 24, 2010
The servers are region locked, but they dont prevent you from buying a Korean copy and playing on the Korean servers from the anywhere else.
Closed AccountJul 24, 2010
Yeah, it's region-locked so you'll understand the curse words coming from that 12 year old who just Zerg-rushed you while you're still gathering Vespene gas.
oktoberfestJul 24, 2010
I don't imagine many Koreans will play on the NA server at will (there's no point. it's just worse practice) so you won't have to worry about native Koreans owning you
kernel16Jul 24, 2010
Huh, Diablo is not as popular of a franchise within Blizzard as I thought it was.
Closed AccountJul 24, 2010
To be fair, you can't really compare the two. Especially when you factor in all the duped items which filters out all the classy players when you hear the noise of a player going hostile with you and camping your corpse two feet out of the town.
Anyone remember Suweetpae on USeast? Think of that, but everywhere.
stormwernJul 24, 2010
Wii sports is cheating, games bundled with the hardware count as sales.
prrpJul 24, 2010
I cannot wait for Tuesday morning at 12:00am... cannot wait!
paradigmxJul 24, 2010
I've already booked Wednesday off work, gonna buy a 4 pack of red bull, a case of Pepsi and 3 boxes of hot pockets. I'll easily spend the new 3 weeks at the gym working that off, but it will totally be worth it.
critramJul 24, 2010
f**k booking off Wednesday, book off Tuesday when it actually releases. I sure did :)
jack416Jul 24, 2010
f**k you, law school starts this fall. Bad enough the second years are laughing their asses off at us since everyone knows you can't game more than 1-2 hours a day during your first year unless you're a genius.
Seriously...I think I'll be dying/crying inside Tuesday midnight.
naturalrhythmJul 24, 2010
I work at an EB Games (I know, sorry) here in Canada and we're not having a midnight launch. It's bulls**t, we have plenty of preorders and I'd be pissed if I preordered (which I did) and wasn't able to get it at midnight. I wouldn't even mind working that shift - I think the enthusiasm would be f**king awesome.
scythe89Jul 24, 2010
Something doesn't add up when it says the expansion (which requires the base game) WarCraft 3 Frozen Throne has outsold WarCraft 3 Reign of Chaos.
ninekplusJul 24, 2010
Perhaps it was counting the War3 Battle Chest sales as TFT only, and not RoC.
Closed AccountJul 24, 2010
I like how they are treating this like a single release when they have the title broken up into three campaigns. What will happen when the Zerg and Protoss campaigns are released? The same thing?
I guess the only benefit of the initial release is access to all the races in multiplayer, but there are those out there who still like the single player experience. This will likely make Wings of Liberty the flagship with the other two campaigns left in the shadows, which is ultimately a shame in the grand scheme of things.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
legoman513Jul 24, 2010
Despite being called a trilogy, the other two parts are expansions - it even says so on the official webpage:
"The StarCraft II Trilogy consists of the base StarCraft II game and two subsequent expansion sets."
http://us.starcraft2.com/faq.xml
In that sense, it makes sense for Wings of Liberty to be the flagship game.
faithclubdotnetJul 24, 2010
Its about to get heavy.
ninekplusJul 24, 2010
Already got the spot cleared in the bottom of my closet for the Collector's Edition, glad to see its already 50+ over retail before launch.

BIG JOB, HUH?
ninekplusJul 24, 2010
Well butter my biscuit.

...f**king DUCK HUNT?!
ninekplusJul 24, 2010
....was packaged with NES system.
Does the laughing dog haunt your dreams too?
diggadiggaJul 24, 2010
You guys should play AnalCraft. All u need is someone's butthole. Requires more stragy than StarCraft.
ninekplusJul 24, 2010
Yes, preventing yourself from prolapsing requires a lot of micro-management(making sure you have the proper grip), unit choice(the right tool for the job), macro-management(body positioning), scouting(making sure no one walks in), resource-management(don't tire yourself out before you are finished), build order(the right moves for the right time).
Yea dude AnalCraft is very skill intensive.
phillyocJul 24, 2010
It's amazing that not all of South Korea has mush for brains. That's a lot of Starcraft.
xnorwaksJul 24, 2010
Activision between not f**k this up like they did CoD... This sequential release is already bad enough.
critramJul 24, 2010
Remember guys what happened in the campaign in SC1
General Edmond Duke is dead
Fenix is Dead(maybe? he was revived once why not again...)
Duran is Xel'Naga(assumption) and is building a mutation of zerg/protoss
Kerrigan is Queen bitch of the Universe
Acturus Mengsk is still running his feeble Dominion
Raynor is out there somewhere
Zeratul is out there rebuilding his world
Ras'zagal is dead
Artanis is rebuilding the protoss
The Admiral Dugale is dead
I replayed the campaigns just to find all this out :)
cspyr0Jul 24, 2010
Is there somewhere online that clipped together all the cut-scenes and mission dialog? Anyone who could provide links would be my hero.
jeffdJul 24, 2010
http://us.starcraft2.com/features/storysofar.xml
^^^ gives a fairly decent overview, it doesn't have all the cut scenes though.
stevedanJul 24, 2010
Duran isn't Xel'Naga, he's just a douche. And the zerg/protoss hybrid he's making is an abomination.
"Zamara revealed the life cycle of the xel'naga, while Zeratul told what he knew of Samir Duran and the hybrids. Zamara said that Duran's experiments were a "perversion" of the xel'naga's natural cycle, and the resulting hybrids would not be xel'naga."
http://starcraft.wikia.com/wiki/StarCraft_storyline
railzJul 25, 2010
Duran wasn't human is all we were given. After the *spoilers* mission where he shot stukov in the back his armor type turned to zerg type.

it didn't mention the countless number of asian lives this game has ruined. Seriously, they broadcast matches on tv. it is so backwards.
ninekplusJul 24, 2010
Asian lives? Videogame and internet in general addiction is a world wide problem.
Also I could fill this text box with American shows that are "so backwards".
And what is so backwards about broadcasting a test of skill between 2 players, do you know how much money they make from sponsorships and product promotions?
It's just like NASCAR, only without the wasted fuel, or all the land that is used to make a track were the soul purpose is to drive around it very very fast and make left turns only.
kantenJul 24, 2010
you didn't mention the countless number of american lives that football has ruined. Seriously, they broadcast matches on tv. it is so backwards.
lastxresortJul 24, 2010
Would this be worth buying just for the single player. I never liked strat games online but i love blizzard (d2) so i want to support them but i cant see myself playing it past the sp.
hyperionhkJul 24, 2010
almost definitely
naturalrhythmJul 24, 2010
most definitely*. I just got my first PC (had a Mac before... big mistake.) and I picked up the StarCraft battlechest and I'm loving it. My only gripe is that I'll have to rush through the campaign to beat it before 2 comes out (have to use cheats, ugh...) but if 2 is like 1, I'm sure it will be redonculous.
kantenJul 24, 2010
You mean 1/3 of the sequel to Starcraft.
UploJul 25, 2010
And I suppose vanilla Starcraft was only half a game? And vanilla WoW was only 1/4 of a game?
