Wow, I've must have been under a big rock.
My favorite dinosaur no longer exists...
*cry*
clevercommenterAug 7, 2010
Well to be fair, that is true no matter what dinosaur is your favorite. Well, all but the alligator.
dreid88Aug 7, 2010
Birds...
theabsinthehareAug 7, 2010
There's a huge debate over whether birds really did evolve from dinosaurs or not. Basically there's more evidence against it than for it, but many people refuse to let go of such a deeply embedded belief.

This "huge debate" is from the 5% of the scientific community that are seen as complete jokes. Granted, I'm sure that's how Newton or Bacon were seen as well during their respective eras. However, I would just like to point out the OVERWHELMING evidence FOR the evolution of birds from dinosaurs. Congratulations, you picked out a few articles that are against that. I'm not wasting my time posting articles (despite the fact that there are easily ten times more) that are FOR the evolution of birds from dinosaurs. Take a course in zoology or evolution...or just ANY 100 level university-level course. Or just read a f**king paper from a respected person in the field. Sorry.
Sincerely,
A part-time ornithologist
freshyillAug 7, 2010
Torosaurus was your favorite dinosaur?
danherbertAug 7, 2010
It still exists. The author of this article got their facts wrong. Triceratops still exists. The Torosaurus is what doesn't exist anymore.
nikolesmashAug 6, 2010
I loved the Triceratops in Diddy Kong Racing!
dewy2500Aug 7, 2010
Despite the fact that he flattened me a million times before I beat him. Seriously, DKR was a great Kart racer. Nothing like it before or since.
theabsinthehareAug 7, 2010
Every time someone says anything about Diddy Kong Racing, I hear Timber yell his name like when you selected him.
mummoAug 6, 2010
Seriously, science, WTF - first you demote Pluto, and now the Triceratops wasn't it's own species. What are you going to take from me next?? Gravity??
Closed AccountAug 7, 2010
Gravity is merely a lucky byproduct of string interaction.
nburgAug 7, 2010
Where's the proof bitch?
yen1ahAug 7, 2010
What is the elementary particle of Gravity?
Oh wait... That's right.
Well, if you have trouble finding it, there is always plenty of mass on Sunday...Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
ckhhrryissAug 6, 2010
Triceratops did exist. I have a plastic one to prove they were real. That and some bones in a museum.
realhadesAug 6, 2010
I'm really hoping science dis-proves itself soon. What's next, they are going to prove the holocaust was real. That would be horrible... Oh wait... It was real? Damn you science!Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
cannabiscorpseAug 7, 2010
This is stupid, the name Triceratops has historical priority over Torosaurus. If anyone would actually take the f**king time to read the study it says that the name Torosaurus will be eliminated as a genus not Triceratops. All a Torosaurus was, was an adult Triceratops. So stop freaking the f**k out people Triceratops is still around. We just know more about them.
rudegarAug 7, 2010
also they do look alike so even if we remove Triceratops then those would be be Torosaurus
freshyillAug 7, 2010
Yes, triceratops is still around because torosaurus is the one being eliminated. Did nobody read that article?
vintersemestreAug 7, 2010
yeah it's just that the headline said something like "the triceratops never existed"

So archeologists f**ked up every single fossil record of the dinosaur ever put together? That seems like a stretch.
I think an alternate scientific theory is getting much more attention than it really should.
freshyillAug 7, 2010
Paleontologists, not archaeologists. They didn't screw anything up, they just didn't realize they were dealing with the same animal. And they want to eliminate Torosaurus, not Triceratops.
ieatcatfoodAug 7, 2010
This is why i hate sensationalist headlines--yes, they get attention quick, but the aftereffects are stupid articles like these.
The triceratops still exists. Its like saying caterpillers dont exist because we learned they become butterflies.
And no one scientist said they dont exist either, just the people who are trying to get attention by making those headlines
wmouazzenAug 7, 2010
f**k that. im still calling it a triceratops.
jjc5004Aug 7, 2010
So is everyone else
freshyillAug 7, 2010
Except internet idiots who don't bother to ever RTFA.
fadetooneAug 7, 2010
This completely f**ks up Dino-Riders!
douglasqAug 7, 2010
Still in denial over here.
throwdiniAug 7, 2010
I don't know id I am more disappointed in the false premise of this article that triceratops did not exist or if I am more bothered by the fact that the author omitted Dino Crisis 2.
Closed AccountAug 7, 2010
It's Morphin' Time...Torosaurus doesn't sound quite right...
freshyillAug 7, 2010
GOOD. because torosaurus is being eliminated, no triceratops.
digg2point0Aug 7, 2010
Isn't that backwards?
That the Triceratops is still the (informal) name they'll use and that it's the Torosaurus that is no longer a dinosaur, since as the Triceratops ages it "becomes" the Torosaurus.

Scientists: Triceratops May Not Have Existed
--CBS News
xkcdfanAug 7, 2010
CBS got the interpretation entirely backwards.
http://blogs.smithsonianmag.com/dinosaur/2010/08/05/relax-triceratops-really-did-exist/
nburgAug 7, 2010
...as does most mainstream media when it comes to science.
gneissisniceAug 7, 2010
Ugh, I didn't realize they just let anyone write new articles these days. Really, the writer used the same exact quote twice in two paragraphs.
In any case, misleading headlines are terrible and need to die.
oirvineAug 7, 2010
The dinosaur Triceratops is still going to be called Triceratops. The dinosaur that was known was Torosaurus is going to be reclassed as Triceratops. In other words, Triceratops is still around. So calm down. And read the real article next time.
s0nicfreakAug 7, 2010
Games don't know blue hedgehogs never existed either.
lukas88Aug 7, 2010
This article seems completely arbitrary.
1) Triceratops did exist, although is most likely the juvenile form of Torosaurus. It is like saying caterpillars never existed because they actually end up as butterflies.
2) Even if they didn't exist, why is that a reason to come up with a list of obscure video games with Triceratops in them? It is like the author expected readers simply because he was combining dinosaurs and video games and presenting it in a list format. Actually, that formula should have worked, which makes it all the more mind boggling how bad this article is.
valisAug 7, 2010
I'm going to take a stab at suggesting that the reason for all of this is that Digg (and a large part of the internet) is turning into reactionary adolescents with the world focus of a fire ant.
vbdonAug 7, 2010
The author has it backwards. The Torosaurus is being reclassified as Triceratops. So, it is the Torosaurus that never existed. Triceratops RULES!!!!
rahazAug 7, 2010
I see no reason why Torosaurus would be picked as the dominant name when Triceratops is by far the more commonly known of the 2. Then again scientists do like to make things complicated sometimes.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.
