Dugg for Mother 3. One of the best GBA games ever made.

I have fond memories of playing FF5 and Tales of Phantasia long before they ever had proper localizations.

I bet Arche f**ks like a tiger.

That made me pretty nostalgic. I've played many SNES RPGs over the years. One of the best ever was a translation itself, Bahamut Lagoon. One of THE best SNES RPGs

It's a great game that I hope gets re-released again someday, but if you put any kind of effort/thought into feeding your dragons, the game is incredibly easy. Only the bonus, aptly named "Hard Dungeon" was difficult - the in-plot missions are too easy.

I tried really really hard to like this game, I love tactical RPGs, I could never figure out why I disliked it so much. It just didn't grab me like other squaresoft games did.

I was expecting rom hacking in the sense of editing the games to make your own worlds and levels and such, but this was actually a really interesting and well written article.
grammerpantsJul 10, 2010
It did touch on that a bit.

Great post. Digg has been lacking quality articles lately and this is filling the void. I've always considered 1up the best gaming media site on the net.

WHat the hell is up with romulation's DS section :-(
neotechniJul 10, 2010
DS sucks.
fatbusterJul 10, 2010
Wow, that really takes me back. I remember when I first got into the Emulation scene back in the late 90's and many of these project were either just finished or just getting off the ground. It was an awesome experience playing all these forgotten games. I also couldn't believe just how many great games had never left Japan. I find it amazing to see how far the scene has come

Terranigma, one of the greatest games ever made. And yet, "It was published by Enix in Japan and later licensed to Nintendo that released English, German, Spanish and French language versions of the game in PAL territories" Really only released in Europe? WTF!

Available legitimately in the US via the Virtual Console, though.
Excellent game.
meribianJul 10, 2010
I came in this thread specifically to see if someone would mention this game.

I'm surprised they didn't discuss the drama in the Ys Translation scene. Its stupid, with the guy responsible for bringing several of the PC versions of the games to American Audiences throwing a hissy fit over perceived piracy (and, I think, the thought that his work isn't appreciated, and the thought that there's not really any way for him to make money over his work). Couple that with several natural personality problems (and the fact that in recent years he's gone visibly hard-core right-wing political and trolls forums with that bulls**t) and its just really interesting to examine.
grammerpantsJul 10, 2010
Yeah I had forgotten all about that, the Bahamut lagoon translation drama was interesting as well, there was so much drama and accusations about everything, funny now, but some people took it deadly serious.
meribianJul 10, 2010
The best rom hacking has to be the hacks of Super Mario World. Mario Is Missing 2 is what Mario Is Missing should have been.
p13t3rmJul 11, 2010
Pretty well written, But where the f**k is Policenauts on that list!?

Sweet Home for the NES, it was a influence on the later Resident Evil and is considered one of the first survival horror games.
