Looks like Starcraft 2 world editor.

Always angry, all the time. >:C

glimp7Aug 13, 2010
Star Craft 2... nuff said. Anybody else just complete the practice matches?
vash14132Aug 14, 2010
Warhammer 40k came before Starcraft, which received a lot of s**t for blatantly ripping off Warhammer, actually.
glimp7Aug 14, 2010
I have DoW2 and played 25 hours total. Gotta love Steam. :-))

dzhuo04Aug 13, 2010
God... I hate f**king Space marines... espeically ultramarines... at least Blood Angels in DoW2 were more than "For the emperor" bulls**t. I know Tau didn't pan out but at least pick something more than ubermensch with uberegos to match.Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Ubermensch is fun sometimes.

Wellp, I Just came. And then cried because I have no console. :(
rogermcdodgerAug 13, 2010
It's coming to PC.

tokeliAug 13, 2010
I just came a thousand times then. Even if it doesn't turn out to be an amazing game, it's still a Warhammer FPS and it looks a helluva lot better than Fire Warrior.
vash14132Aug 14, 2010
Never mention Fire Warrior!
dalittleAug 14, 2010
but they dumbed it down for the console. Not excited about that.
sangjmoonAug 13, 2010
To me Warhammer 40K meant massive armies fighting each other from the start. If it strays from this, it loses its distinction from other games.
vash14132Aug 14, 2010
Look's like its going in the right direction then, from what's been shown.

You kids and your fancy computer, I used to paint Warhammer 40k miniatures until I get cross-eyed then spend days reading the rulebook and build tabletop terrains to play on, and don't get me started on weapon range and what's considered "clear line-of-fire"...
akairennAug 14, 2010
"Dude, I'm totally concealed behind the box of Cheez-Itz, err, the bunker."
jayjaylolAug 14, 2010
I've always noticed the similarities between Starcraft's and Warhammers Terran/Space Marines, Zerg/Tyranids, and Protoss/Eldars. Did the creators of the Warhammer universe use Starcraft as motivation or vice versa? Comment is buried, click here to see the rest.

Fail Troll
shamsaelAug 14, 2010
Yeah. In 1987, several Games Workshop employees traveled forward to the year 1998, played StarCraft, then went back to the present (1987) and gave blizzard's game balls.
sunsetprojectsAug 14, 2010
Actually Games workshop Approached Blizzard at the time to make a warhammer 40k game. When the game was almost complete Games workshop backed out and Blizzard decided to launch the game any way but first changed a few things so they wouldn't get sued.

World of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marinecraft II?
Cool
I thought this was from Blizzard when I first looked at it.
watchdragonAug 14, 2010
Am i the only one that is mad that one space marine just kill 8 orks in melee?
shamsaelAug 14, 2010
This the first time a WH40K game made the space marine as powerful as the fluff (source material) would lead you to believe he is.
Closed AccountAug 14, 2010
Yeah, my mob of boyz will TEAR UP a squad of my buddy's Salamanders in close combat in the actual tabletop game. In the story of the universe, that one squad of Salamanders would be sufficient to annihilate my entire 1750 army without taking a single casualty.
oatlordAug 14, 2010
Put your helmet on, dude. You're gonna catch a stray bullet to the face! The life you save may be your own.
shamsaelAug 14, 2010
Space Marine's don't NEED helmets. That's the point. That's why they're space marines. They're bones are bullet proof and their head is the one apendage covered in enough bone to protect whatever organ happens to be inside of it. If their torsos were covered in sheets of bone, they wouldn't even wear armor on their upper body.
noamchimpskyAug 14, 2010
If this was a Capcom game, his head would be glowing orange.
If this were a Zelda game, his head would be a silver arrow target.
If he were a giant enemy crab, you would attack his head for massive damage.
It's a glaring weakpoint and no genetic alteration fanboy fluff is going to make his exposed head any safer than if it were encased in, naturally-bulletproof-overcompensating-for-something armor. Aren't these soldiers supposed to be ridiculously expensive to create/train/equip? Why go to all the effort of arming and armoring them like walking pill boxes, only to risk complete loss of investment to a headshot?
Closed AccountAug 14, 2010
Because a headshot will not kill a space marine. Let alone an Ultramarine captain. The armor they wear is pretty much superfluous anyway.
The guns they fire (the smaller basic 2h assault rifle looking thing) is called a Bolter. It is so called because it fires a sizable bolt filled with explosives. This weapon causes wounds that look like someone punched about 50 pounds out of the center of someone's body. They catch these weapons in the face occasionally, and suffer no more than an "Ouch."
nocontrol926Aug 14, 2010
Not really, after reading several of the Horus Heresy series, marines take off their helmets for one reason or another, and get pwned. Even with helmets on, the 'red shirt' variety space marines often die from a shot to the head. The few times they evade injury is if they are of course, a primary character in the plot.
More frequently, a character has an appendage severely wounded and has it replaced with cybernetic enhancements.
/nerd
zaranellAug 14, 2010
Yeah, but the Horus Heresy took place in the 30,000's, as I recall. I think it's possible that they've "upgraded" the Marines' natural protection since then.
Or it could just be plot armor that changes depending on the needs of the narrative.
rwhitisissleAug 14, 2010
Personally I like the reason someone, I think it was Cole, from Gears of War 2 gave for not wearing helmets: it's easier to see snipers. Also I'm reminded of the fan theory for why stormtroopers from Star Wars always sucked as marksman: their helmets, although decent armor, are so difficult to see out of that trying to aim while wearing one is a cruel joke.
Or it could be solely for aesthetic reasons. It's far easier to sympathize and root for a character if you can actually see their face. Nobody wants to look at the back of a helmet the entire game or see a helmeted face during cut-scenes. Remember that game Halo where....oh, wait.
Never mind.

Hopefully it's not the oozing vaginal discharge that Fire Warrior was.

Too bad they ruined dawn of war, company of heroes sucks compared to real RTS like Starcraft.
RIP dawn of war

Meh. Doesn't look that impressive.
bennisonAug 14, 2010
It looks like they got the bolters right. You can see lots of little explosions where he fires, and the orks blow apart when they get shot up enough.
nocontrol926Aug 14, 2010
The heavy bolter looked like it was firing too fast, at least if you're going to compare it to the RTS games. Either way, they looked badass.
zaranellAug 14, 2010
I recall reading in the books that Bolters only have 20 round magazines, and that Space Marines usually take accurate semi-auto shots. Then again, that was in the Horus Heresy series, which takes place a loooong time before the present canon. Dunno if Bolters are any different now.
rwhitisissleAug 14, 2010
If I recall from the books and games, technology doesn't really "advance" in the Imperium. Creating new technology is heresy because everything that can be created already exists. What they do is attempt to rediscover lost technology. That being the case, I always thought that the farther into the future the story went, the worse the technology got. They couldn't manufacture new weapons and armor etc. since it all had to be salvaged from the dead or discovered in weapons caches.
Or this could be complete BS and they do design new technology, vehicles, etc. I don't really care, I just want to be able to play a mission as a Dreadnaught.
kingchris11Aug 14, 2010
Looks like some sort of Gears of War Mod lol.
dalittleAug 14, 2010
to bad it is a third person shooter. Third person shooters are just annoying, you cannot see half of what is going on for no reason.
