I rather get my news from a real media source, like Al-Jazeera or BBC.
norman619Mar 15, 2011
wait.. Al-Jazeera...? Seriously?
kingnovaMar 16, 2011
I take it you've never watched the English version of Al-Jazeera. Some of the best news reporting out there.
luv2luvMar 15, 2011
It seems that cable news networks are starting to accept that certain ones are pro left or pro right. Because of this, they lose their credibility because people just assume they are feeding left or right propaganda. I find more and more people my age getting their news from foreign news outlets and public news outlets like PBS
bumpus7934Mar 15, 2011
Or social media.
seldon21Mar 15, 2011
Agree, at the same time we have a group of lawmakers trying to close down the last "public" forum for mass media.
JerseyBlakeMar 15, 2011
news is another example of the internet crushing the house that TV built.
shankari46Mar 15, 2011
It's infotainment, not news. I don't want to hear about Linsay Lohan or the little girl down the well. This earthquake crisis has made US news media look like a joke.
Closed AccountMar 15, 2011
The proplem here is that there are A LOT of people in the U.S. that are more enterested in Jersey douche bags and Lindsey Hohan. The new outlets are trying to cater to as many demographics as possible.
norman619Mar 15, 2011
Speak for yourself.
Closed AccountMar 15, 2011
Not sure I understand what you mean. Are you saying there are not a lot of poeple that want this kind of info?
norman619Mar 15, 2011
You are painting with a large brush.
Closed AccountMar 15, 2011
Are you going to continue to speak in code? I'm still not sure what your are trying to say.
danielrh9Mar 15, 2011
All of the international coverage of recent events in places like Egypt and Japan is really showing how lackluster our mainstream domestic journalism channels have been lately.
wf80diditMar 15, 2011
Fox News Channel. Kickin ass and takin names since Bush 43.
wf80diditMar 15, 2011
You know it's true. Numbers don't lie, only left leaning news sources that are exact copy/paste versions of FNC do.
theswashbucklerMar 15, 2011
Numbers don't lie, but sometimes liars use numbers to lie.
norman619Mar 15, 2011
ah OK if you were talking about ratings then yes they routinely clean the clocks of the other cable news networks. That only means they are providing a product a larger number of people like to consume. It says nothing about their objectivity. I will unbury you for that.
norman619Mar 15, 2011
Wut? Is that sarcasm? It's so hard to detect online.
wf80diditMar 15, 2011
I wouldn't exactly say it was sarcastic. FNC is FNC, take it or leave it. And like you said, they do better because they have the bigger audience. You have to wonder though WHY do they have such a large viewership amongst the public if they're so evil?
JustSayNoPartyMar 16, 2011
Large viewership (relative term) does not necessarily correlate to 'good news programming'. In fact, I'd say there is a negative correlation. These channels have to be 'Sensationalizers' to get large viewerships.
wf80diditMar 16, 2011
True enough. It would be pretty boring if they got rid of all the flashy images, pretty women and talked in a monotone voices. They have to sensationalize things. The sensationalizing is no different from what you'd get out of Tosh.o or anything on the Spike channel. Right? Now let me go look up that word.
JustSayNoPartyMar 16, 2011
I prefer tosh.o.

American news is great if you want to find out if a large group of people died all at once or if you need to know what color underwear Lindsey Lohan is wearing. The one exception is PBS. They tend to stick to real news which is probably why it can be very dry and boring at times. BBC is good too but not BBC America unless you want to know which entertainer is in rehab today.
If you are being entertained while watching the news, you probably are not watching actual news.
rowlodgeMar 15, 2011
not enough leggage.
nuiloaMar 15, 2011
Short answer: Because they all suck incredibly bad at reporting actual news.
norman619Mar 15, 2011
Because they are a business and businesses are about selling things. how do you get people to watch? You entertain them. PBS is the closest thing we have to an unbiased televised news source int he US. That's just sad. Well, and BBC America.
bdbrMar 15, 2011
US news has two big problems: pundits have replaced investigative journalism, and they try to do too much - only huge tragedies warrant more than five minutes of discussion. It's news on the cheap, and we're not particularly informed about anything that way...but it may give us the illusion of being informed. A partisan political illusion of being informed can be a bit dangerous.
The web provides a potential to match in-depth journalism with instant access, but that takes time and money. Much of what we read is either just opinion, or funded by newspaper & magazine subscribers.
norman619Mar 15, 2011
Investigative journalism isn't popular anymore.
shoelessschippaMar 15, 2011
Good.
norman619Mar 15, 2011
Is it too much to ask for people who only present us with the news w/o injecting their own personality and/or spin? I mean it's fine if I'm watching one of those opinions shows since that's why I'd watch such a thing but when I'm watching the news I just want the facts and nothing more. When will journalism go back to reporting the events and not becoming part of the events? MSNBC, CNN, and FOX are all guilty of this. I know there are lots of people here who claim their favorite cable news source is a bastion of objectivity but that's just self-delusion talking.
crashdvisMar 15, 2011
How do you measure a loss for MSNBC? You have to have viewers in the first place to be able to lose them.
JustSayNoPartyMar 16, 2011
Repulican, right? This is about 'all cable news'.
seldon21Mar 15, 2011
Agree, there is only one show doing real journalism (Maddow) and the rest are really just bs, insert the name here " ". Some I agree with while others are just fulling the fodder to their base.
norman619Mar 15, 2011
An example of the self-delusion I mentioned.
seldon21Mar 16, 2011
Need I sight examples? And as for the above mentioned comment we have a non-bias news source and the GOP is trying to get rid of one of it's major distribution systems.
meedMar 15, 2011
Perhaps this is due to the emphasis on the "reporters" giving their opinion and bias reporting, instead of giving their viewers the facts and letting them decide what to think about it themselves?
norman619Mar 15, 2011
We have an overabundance of news commentators and not many actual reporters.
jacleseauMar 15, 2011
I agree with Doug Mataconis' assessment.
djsteelMar 15, 2011
I can't call any of these stations news station.. they are more about pushing agendas and skewing ideas.
Dugg_E_FreshMar 15, 2011
Just watching the Daily show will give you the answer to that question.
monevthegaleMar 15, 2011
On cable news, there 1 hour of real news and the remaining 23 hours is just speculation and opinion dressed up as news. Bonus points for reporting the opinions of fellow anchors and leading with "Some people say" in order to create false news.
nikowolfMar 15, 2011
i guess that's why everyone likes Jon Stewart because he points out how stupid these news stations can be.
swordedgeMar 16, 2011
TWIT.TV, Revision3, and C/Net often have nearly as many viewer as some of those cable networks at 100th the cost. And their content is mostly tech specific.
kingnovaMar 16, 2011
Same reason Digg shed users: They let the inmates run the asylum. All the cable news networks went out of their way to appeal to the fringe and promote hating the "other guy". It never lasts.
bzzzlineMar 16, 2011
CNN spends a lot of time talking about what some viewer messaged in, and the message is often times uninformed. I don't want to hear what some viewer has to say, I want someone who claims to be a professional to actually do their job.
vanzant38Mar 16, 2011
Reason: Trust.
gkiltzMar 16, 2011
Or it could be that they are just lame and irrelevant!
JustSayNoPartyMar 16, 2011
Cable news has become just another 'drama show'. If I want drama, I'll rent a movie. When I want news, I tend to go online.
kasha34Mar 16, 2011
Maybe they don't know....network news is shedding views like crazy too.
kasha34Mar 16, 2011
A bit dishonest. MSNBC, CNN have been shedding views for years. Their numbers have been half or a third of Fox News for a long time. The only thing new is that Fox viewers declined a bit for the first time. That's the only part that's news.
JustSayNoPartyMar 16, 2011
Is this a 'support post' for Fox? I'd prefer to see all of them change how they do business.
kasha34Mar 16, 2011
Just fact. It's no secret.
JustSayNoPartyMar 16, 2011
I hope the trend continues for Fox, CNN, and MSNBC. I think all three are 'off track'. This is not the type of 'reporting' that's good for the country.
galacticlove1Mar 18, 2011
It's because sources like Infowars.com on the web actually don't spin the news and tell you the real dirt even if you are ready for it or not.
