One of the great talents of our time who threw it all away. Sad story, I hope she will at least be an example for others.
balzorFeb 12, 2012
She was one of the great singer/performers of my generation. Today's music is mostly crap. Despite all her recent troubles, she was one of the best.
norman619Feb 12, 2012
Well to be fair there's a lot of awesome indy music out there. That's where the real talent is today. The big label stuff is mostly garbage.
meribianFeb 12, 2012
"I like my music based on how many other people are familiar with it!"
lol
norman619Feb 12, 2012
Yeah that's hilarious to me too. People only need to look a little harder to find great music. Most seem to think the only artists out there worth listening to are the ones that get radio play and get on MTV. I love it when I hear some of my favorite indy artists on various TV shows I watch. there's a whole world of incredibly talented artists out there to be discovered if people would only look.
shingoexFeb 12, 2012
That's...totally not what indie music is about. You're confusing it with elitist hipsters. All it means is they are bands who haven't been signed to big labels or aren't heavily promoted.
gt777Feb 12, 2012
I spit on cocaine and Marajuna!!
terriwilsonFeb 12, 2012
I agree I grew up listening to her music, what a beautiful instrument she had back then. This is such sad news.
bossm4nFeb 12, 2012
Is anyone really surprised by this news?
kingpFeb 12, 2012
Sadly, no. She's lived on the edge of self destruction for the last decade. It's really sad. Now her daughter is following in her mom's footsteps.
jenuboukaFeb 12, 2012
No, really? Her daughter is into drug abuse? I can't help to immediately think it was a relapse/overdose, but at any rate she was a classy lady with a disease she just couldn't kick. I am still in a bit of shock for the last couple of years it seems many Hollywood stars are fading out too soon.
bukowskyFeb 12, 2012
Not really.. I'd be more surprised If it's not drug related.
partrowFeb 12, 2012
Why is it that when someone dies people have to rush in to leave a comment including "RIP"?
I know the meaning, of course, but it almost seems like a kneejerk reaction, like an act driven by superstition.
Maybe they feel that if they don't say that, something bad might happen or something?
Weird.
emfkFeb 12, 2012
OMG. RIP, Whitney. So very sad.

And Bobby Brown proves definitely to have the midas touch in reverse: everything he touches is destroyed.
norman619Feb 12, 2012
Yeah this is his fault...
/face-palm
publikjohn9Feb 12, 2012
What...? Sounds like you need to adjust your meds.
raiderduckFeb 12, 2012
@norman619: And WHO introduced her to crack, heroin, cocaine, meth and every other cheap street drug on the planet? She didn't turn into a junkie until she married that pimp wannabe.
cyberprunesFeb 12, 2012
Hello crack..nice to meet you! It's sad that she is gone but we are responsible for our choices.
meribianFeb 12, 2012
So if I were to give you those drugs, you'd be obligated to do them?
shingoexFeb 12, 2012
People are responsible for their own actions. She wasn't forced into either drugs or marriage. She CHOSE them.

But he found out that nothing is given. Don't know where the cards may fall.
sleestakslayerFeb 12, 2012
That whole bobby brown thing always baffled me. She was the one with talent, and personality. It seems like she should have just left him after a few months, but there must have been some sort of a sick co-dependence thing going on. Too bad, really.
keveverick1966Feb 12, 2012
R.I.P Whitney, my prayers and thoughts are with Houston's family tonight. My father is in the hospital tonight and this has been a very emotional day. Tell someone close to you that you love them. You never know!

mjw120371Feb 12, 2012
This article just reminds me again that just because you're rich and famous does not always mean your living a fulfilled life. It's so sad because it seems like so many of them end up with drug and alcohol problems after making it big. It's almost like they're trying to fill a void in there lives. So much God given talent tends to end sooner than it should. She was a very talented woman who will be missed by many.
toasty8Feb 12, 2012
Yeah her life was horrible. Must have been difficult growing up in Africa where kids are born with AIDS, where you can't get food or clean water, and rebels end up recruiting small children into their ranks. Oh wait...
grabateFeb 12, 2012
I know that every celebrity dies eventually but some some just come out of nowhere.
meribianFeb 12, 2012
Yeah...who knew hard drugs were bad for you?
robertwrightFeb 12, 2012
"WOW"!
She really had a hard time with life... I hope her pass behavior isn't what people remember her by, She was a talented beautiful person and will truly be missed!
Rest In Peace Whitney!
vitriolandangstFeb 12, 2012
I'm kind of shocked. She really took a toll on her own health ... But she will be missed.
On balance, I think she was a pretty great lady.

dustinthewind2Feb 12, 2012
Feels strangely similar to the Michael Jackson story, a worldwide superstar who leaves the spotlight and dies shortly before possibly attempting a comeback. Similar in age, too (48 and 50).
meribianFeb 12, 2012
Except Michael Jackson has good songs.
dustinthewind2Feb 12, 2012
So does Houston.
JLF2035Feb 12, 2012
ummm no.
dustinthewind2Feb 12, 2012

JLF2035Feb 12, 2012
Yes it does. fact.
rogerevans1Feb 12, 2012
@dustinthewind2 Similar to the Michael Jackson story... except without all the little boy molesting and subsequent pay-offs to shut them up. Just thought I'd throw that out there.
dustinthewind2Feb 12, 2012
They both had their vices. Jackson's was more disturbing. Houston's a little more deadly, maybe (depending on cause of death).
jacquee49Feb 12, 2012

Her career ended a LONG time ago. No one followed her anymore. The tragedy here is how young she was when she passed.

We're a tad bit obsessed with celebrities. Birth or death, how we react to their news truly bothers me. It's crazy. Yet for reasons beyond me, Whitney's death truly hit me - as if I know her personally or something. I grew up listening to her music. I used even have the audacity to think she was better than Michael Jackson artistically. May she really rest in peace. Her life took an unnecessary turn.
williamkronbergFeb 12, 2012
It sucks that people on here think that she is fully responsible for her drug abuse. The wonders of our education system! Addiction is a life threatening disease! Think of her as being sick instead of her making the choice to kill herself through her use of drugs and/or alcohol. For many of us with this disease it may start with a drink but after that first drink we have an allergic reaction that leads to a craving to take more whether it be drugs or alcohol at that point. Remember her for the things she brought to this Earth. She was truly a remarkably beautiful person who had a disease that ended up killing her too soon.
rogerevans1Feb 12, 2012
Yeah because no one is ever responsible for their own actions. Let's justify everything with some kind of disorder that can't be helped, that'll make it all better. Those who are addicts need not blame themselves, right? It's always someone else's fault, or the result of some incurable disease, right? Let's give them more reasons to play the victim and wallow in self-pity. I'm sure big pharma's got a pill for that that they're eager to sell you though.
Give me a break. Who makes the choice of taking that first hit or that first drink? Who makes the choice not to stop? I realize quitting is difficult - I quit smoking cigarettes 3 years ago after 10 years of smoking, so believe me I know. But who's fault was it that I started smoking to begin with? Think about it.
partrowFeb 12, 2012
Addiction is not a disease. It has been called a disease to shift the blame off of the addicted so they can be called a victim.
The addiction is totally the fault of the addicted, and that person needs to want to be alcohol/tobacco/drug free, and then take the steps and responsibility to accomplish it, or it will not happen.
We are all responsible for ourselves. Not anyone else, not the government, just ourselves. No one cares as much as we do for ourselves.
publikjohn9Feb 12, 2012
Sad, didn't see this coming.

cyberdactylFeb 12, 2012
She was an unbelievable amazing talent. But it was held by a person with weak will.
When you combine super stardom with weak will, you usually get an early death.
